5 out of 5 eggsSAMSUNG BD-H5100/ZA

Pros: After firmware is updated, the unit needs to be reset by holding the power button down for at least 8 seconds. Then follow the instructions that appear.

Cons: After firmware is updated, the unit needs to be reset by holding the power button down for at least 8 seconds. Then follow the instructions that appear.

Other Thoughts: It is unforgivable that customers were not informed about having to reset this unit after the automatic update.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY.

Pros: Will provide some attorney $ in a defective product liability suit. It gave us several days of enjoyment.

Cons: Stopped playing blu ray discs soon after the warranty expired. No joke. Also, the menu navigates s...l...o...w...l...y.

Other Thoughts: Waste of money. [We didn't purchase it through newegg, but the problem is the fault of the manufacturer, not the retailer]

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy.. you have been warned

Pros: cheap. Lesson learned!

Cons: I did not know what I know now before purchasing.

Other Thoughts: Samsung makes great TVs and great cell phones, but not blu-ray players.
Bought a brand new BD-H5100. would not play three newly released blu-ray movies. Samsung tells me I need to update the firmware form version 1007. 0 to 1008.7. I did that and now it won't even play regular DVDs not ANY bluray disk. Then A tech with Samsung tells me I shouldn't update the firmware unless there is a problem.. HELLO??? It would not play newer blu-ray disk.. isn't THAT a problem??

so now I have to send in a brand new unit for repair work that has less than 10 minutes of use on it.

Why is it that my discontinued 5 year old LG Blu-ray player, which has not received a firmware update since 2012, can still play ALL newly released Blu-ray discs but this Samsung unit cannot?
ANd just do a quick search, you will see it's not only me or my specific model that has this problem.
Head my warning, stay away from Samsung blu-ray disc players or you will be sorry :)
