5 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good!

Pros: Pleased with product to this point...Has a good picture now, even without high definition. (The receiver we have does not have connection for high definition.) Especially impressed with speed of delivery. Ordered 3:00 a.m., it was shipped at 8:00 a.m., and received next day. Very pleased with the price!

Cons: It looked a little smaller than I expected. It is replacing another 42 in., but the other one measures diagonally to be more than 42 in. This one is exactly 42.

1 out of 5 eggsBad product, bad LG service

Pros: Good picture, when it's working right.

Cons: Recurring problems with main board make my TV spend more time at the repair shop than at home.

Other Thoughts: Back in September, I left a 4-star review for this product. Since then, it's been problem after problem with my LG 42LE5400. After two months of operation, the TV started pulling up random menu options every time I turned it on. I called LG to get it serviced under warranty and they authorized a local repair shop to fix it. The shop diagnosed a faulty main board, which has apparently been a common problem with this model, and they ordered a new board from LG. It took LG over a MONTH to send the replacement part to the shop. I just got my TV back a few days ago, and now the LED backlighting won't adjust. The repair shop says the replacement board is probably faulty too, so it's going back in for more repair. I really wish I'd kept the original packaging so I could return this lemon!!!!

1 out of 5 eggsNewegg Customer Support Terrible!

Pros: Product came defective and damaged

Recieved the New Lg TV yesterday, packaging is not the best, I noticed the box was beat up a bit and a tear in the middle of box. I turned the tv on and it was defective.
Called Newegg same day and they said call tomorrow as they were out of stock and they may have more in stock to ship a replacement the next day.
I called the next day and waited on hold with a newegg rep for 10 minutes to be sure one was in stock.
Finally the rep said one is in stock, and I'm all set he will overnight the replacement tv asap. I thought great, Not so Fast....
Now I get a call later that day and the replacement tv isn't coming and it was never in stock???
I do not have another tv in my living room and we are having my sons 16th birthday party friday here, great!
It would of been fair if they offered the 42le5500 for an alternitive replacement after the poor service, but nothing except wait a week or more till back in stock.
Very poor customer service!

Other Thoughts: I believe Newegg customer service which has always been A+ is now declining after this transaction.
"Do Not Buy Big Ticket Items from Newegg!"
"More hassle then what it's worth."

4 out of 5 eggsGreat picture quality, but not perfect

Pros: Awesome picture, easy set up, very bright, decent connections (4 HDMI, 3 component, etc)...easy to reach connectors

Cons: No analog audio out, NO PICTURE IN PICTURE????

When I hook up my computer with HDMI, the picture is blurry...but this is apparently very common with TV's (same on my brother's sharp)....when connected to VGA it's very sharp. However, there is no way to get audio to work with VGA. I had to use an external amp to get audio...the analog audio inputs don't work with VGA.

Other Thoughts: overall very happy with it...the lack of PIP shocks me...I've had PIP with my TV's for over 15 yrs going back to my old CRT models. My old westinghouse 37" LCD has great PIP. Why did they leave this out on this awesome LG model? I did not know this when I bought it....assumed ALL tv's had it.

5 out of 5 eggsIn love

Pros: - Quality of the picture is the best I have ever seen.

- More ports than I can shake a stick at.

- Allows for you to plug USBs right into the TV and play movies off of them with an easy-to-use menu.

- Easy to navigate menu.

Cons: - Plugging/Unplugging the USBs from the port can be a little rough. The sticks sometimes dont go in/come out as smooth as they should.

- The predetermined video settings can be a little off. The game one I personally found to be far too dark for most games.

Other Thoughts: I'm extremely happy with my purchase. This is the first HDTV I have bought and I'm happy that I finally made this purchase. The price was quite reasonable. I encourage anyone thinking about purchasing this TV to do it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: This was my first major TV purchase in over 10 years and I am super happy with the outcome. I know more about comptuers than i do image quality and TVs but i feel the picture is great and everything in general is quite awesome. I think someone noted that there was bleed through of the lamps on the corners of the screen when displaying VERY dark screens; this is almost negligable. You can find anything if you are looking for it...
Newegg and shipper had it here in less than 24 hours, but I do live in a city with a dist. hub.

Looks incredible with HD component cables and a PS3

Cons: Speakers are some what weak.
Price dropped another 100 bones after 10 days of me getting it from

Other Thoughts: Special Note: the TV came with a large crack on the middle of the left plastic bar/frame. I did not want to ship it back right out of the box. Plugged it up and I cannot find any damage to the visual display. I cannot blame any one business because this crack could have occured anywhere it has passed through.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing picture quality

Pros: Major upgrade from my 32" TV. Lots of HDMI inputs. Picture and video are sharp. Ability to save custom video and picture settings.

Cons: There really aren't any cons. Someone mentioned the speakers but you can't expect surround sound quality out of tv speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV!

Pros: Just a great TV. Great colors and easy to use. I love it.

Cons: Wish LG would list an easy to use website to show the current firmware number.

That way, I would not need to unplug my internet and re-plug into the LG TV to find out if there is a current update.

2 out of 5 eggs120ms of input lag. Gamers/HTPC - stay away

Pros: Love the HDTV. Love its features. Great picture. Great controls. Decent inputs. Great price.

Cons: - 120ms of input lag!!!!!
- lack of coaxial digital audio (optical only)
- hdmi signals are unable to scan properly at 60hz and barely scan properly at 30hz. Good for bluray, bad for htpc.
Use VGA for htpc for best picture/scanning. Anything else will resize pixels and cause blur.
When I call support, they have no idea what I'm talking about re: input lag, or how to fix it. They recommend changing out the mainboard for what is undoubtably a software issue.
To put this in context, most pc/console gamers would complain if their NETWORK had over 100ms of lag on an online game. These lags add together, so the best I could ever hope for on an online game with this tv would be over 200ms of lag. Completely unacceptable.

Other Thoughts: I understand there is typically a large deal of post processing on tvs like this to improve picture quality (trumotion being one of them) So I disabled anything that could remotely lead to post processing on the tv. The delay remained unchanged. (The only thing that I could tell affected delay was trumotion which increased it to about 250ms.)
I figured ok, it must be the hdmi cable. Testing hdmi, dvi-tohdmi, dvi-vga, and straight up vga cables all yielded the same results.
I figured ok, these tvs are known for post-processing digital signal, and leaving analog signal intact. I tested my Wii and Xbox1 with composite and component cables. Sure enough, 120ms of delay lag. Try playing megaman or any other simple shooter and the delay on your shots and jumps is obvious.
My roommate has the exact same tv without LED (42LD5400) and has no noticable input lag on any console/input/configuration whatsoever.
This apparently massive oversight has made me lose a lot of respect for LG.

5 out of 5 eggsWonderful TV for the price feature rich

Pros: Simple, I love this TV. Design is super slim, with the LG mount its 2" off my wall. Yeah a total of 2". It blends in to the room better than my LCD unit, that stuck out 8" thanks to the mount an ubberfat LCD. 4 HDMI inputs, ethernet built in. Not that I need another Netflix player but its there and yes it works flawlessly. Pickups my mac mini and its Elgato eyeTV share, and plays them streaming across the ethernet, nice touch. Yeah the Widgets are okay, if your into that. the remote is excellent except the below con. Picture is spectacular, have not found issue with it yet. Sound is not bad for regular watching, but yes I would fire up a true home theater system for movie night.

Cons: The TV remote is hard to use with the directional menu and pulling up all the features especially in the dark, that section is not back light. I am sure I will get used to it, but right now its a frustrating feature.

Other Thoughts: Get the LG mount, it really is well designed, and makes the TV installation go with out hitch. All the interfaces are accessible, and come on its only .8" thick retracted. and it is solid as a rock. Yes is is slightly more expensive, but so worth it. I am so glad I pulled the trigger on this deal.
