4 out of 5 eggsExcellent TV

Pros: Picture quality. This set replaced an old Aquos LCD from around 2006, one of the very first 1080p LCD TVs.
Much improvement in picture quality from the old LCD and a lot more settings options available.

Initially I wasn't satisfied with the purchase but only because I didn't realize how much difference just a few settings can make.

- Ability to turn TruMotion off, which causes artifacts around edges in fast moving scenes. TruMotion does smooth out the video but I personally prefer not to use it due to the artifacts that it introduces.

- Game / Cinema mode. These make a big difference. When I watch a movie I use slightly modified Cinema mode. When I play games, which look stunning on the TV, I switch to Game mode. Once in Game mode there is no "input" lag, due to the set disabling majority of its post processing features. With Cinema mode there is about 100ms delay, so movie soundtrack has to be adjusted. But, I've noticed that if, in addition, I set the input type to PC/Computer, then there is no delay at all in Cinema. I still need to play with the settings a bit.

- 3D, very nice. I'm actually one of those people that think 3D is a gimmick hyped to get sales, but it looks surprisingly good. I've watched a few 3D movie trailers through the TV's built in app and was impressed. Though, the source is important. Not all 3D trailers showed off 3D equally well. There were 2 that made almost no difference between watching 2D and 3D. I don't know if I would be able to last through a whole movie with 3D glasses (I've went to IMAX 3D in the past with no problems) but the 3D trailers surprised me, in a positive way. The 2D to 3D function of the TV I would rate as mediocre, was not impressed at all. But that's not a biggie.

Cons: The biggest con. TV, in general, is very thin, which is what I was looking for, except for the bottom part where the speakers are housed. Who came up with the brilliant idea of putting $20 speakers in such a way that they add additional 80% thickness to the TV? It's a total design FAIL! Does anyone really pay 1 grand for a TV and uses the built in speakers for sound? Those speakers should be detachable if they're going to affect the thickness of the set to such a great extent. The only thing these speakers are good for is watching news programming or other low sound quality TV programming. For anything else, if you don't have external speakers then a $50 headphones will sound better then what's included. -1 Egg for this stupidity.

I would fire the designer of this TV casing on the spot, it's that bad (because of the additional speaker depth).

There are some bright spots in 3-4 places, but they're not noticeable when watching the TV. Only when showing a static black image in a totally dark room, aka, looking for white spots. There is also some edge light bleeding, right top being the worse, but again, doesn't distract when watching content, even with movies with black bars at top and bottom.

Other Thoughts: I needed a TV that hugs the wall and while I made it work in the end in my setup, it was very time consuming to do so and a major headache.

I'm not into all the "smart" features of the TV and generally keep my TV unplugged from my home network. YouTube worked very well.

As for white spots and light bleeding, seems to be related to LED edge lighting. You'll probably get it to some degree on all displays utilizing this technology.

5 out of 5 eggsSmarter Than Most Friends!

Pros: Kidding with the title but the TV is pretty smart. This replaced a 42" Plazma...apples and oranges. Everything about this TV is intuitive out of the box for the average user. The Wii-style remote took awhile to get used to but now,'how did I ever get by without one'?
The picture quality is the best I've owned or have seen and required little effort to understand the numerous fine tune adjustments!
This is my first LG and I'm very impressed!!
I did not get this for the 3D, however...WOW!!! Clear and sharp and the 2D to 3D is very appealing as well. Just watched Hatfields and McCoys on the Netflix app provided in 2D to 3D...Outstanding!!!
TV is light and thin and compared to my Plazma puts out virtually no heat. Had it for a few days and haven't looked at the manual yet it's that easy, even the stand was very easy to attach and seems sturdy!

Cons: Didn't pay the $799 some did but under $1K it's still a bargain!

Other Thoughts: I giving NewEgg SIX STARS AS ALWAYS!!!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat tv

Pros: I have only owned this set for a short time but it has show it's self to be more then I had hoped for after shopping for over 2 months. in the store the same model was 1495.99. I paid 799.99 at new egg, this was the best price for a 3d tv running at 240hz. I didn't buy it for the 3-d but for the price I figured why not pick up the 3-d for when you do want to watch somthing.

Cons: none so far, just don't buy to big for your room, my wife wanted bigger, but I told her the measurements were correct for a 47". It is just right.

Other Thoughts: I had never owned any Lg products before and was a bit short on spending a lot of money on this company but all the reviews were very high and the warranty is great. I hope I don't have to find out.

1 out of 5 eggsa piece of junk

Pros: Thin

Cons: This is really a piece of j__k, there is no way to get the right picture, either it is too dark or too bright, even if you turn off the special features, the viewing angle is really bad, even if you move 15 degree, the picture is going to be so dark to the point that you have to re-adjust the picture again, who in the world would keep adjusting the TV ten times a day? All the build in picture scheme are useless, even at the lowest brightness scheme is so bright that you have to watch it 40 feet away from it. My old 40” Westinghouse HDTV is million times better than this piece of j__k. I will see if I can return this thing.

4 out of 5 eggsNot utilizing full potential...

Pros: Working out of the box. Good design.

Cons: Not displaying 1080p with Samsung S27B350H. There is an inch of black border around the screen...

Other Thoughts: Might be driver issue.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Buy

Pros: Picture is crystal clear, even with over the air programing. comparison between LG and SAMSUNG, this one wins hands down. Apps are easy to use, wireless works flawlessly. netflix, Pandora, Hulu, YouTube apps included, that is why earned 5 eggs. This was a steal at the $799 price.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: once out of the box and connected, check for firmware updates, it adds more apps to the home screen. I'm very happy with me purchase. Newegg never let's me down.

5 out of 5 eggsBest TV Ever!

Pros: Excellent image quality
Broad range of features
Very thin

Cons: Non-removable power cable

Other Thoughts: Just bought a second one of these since I liked the first so much (and to take advantage of Newegg's excellent price and very fast - as always - service). This is the best TV I've ever owned. Even if you just use it with a cable box for plain old 2D TV, you'll be amazed at the image quality. Be sure to tweak the power setting to get a brighter picture, but that's about it. The only knock is that the power cable is permanently attached, so I initially had a problem getting the TV flat against the wall (the power outlet is right behind the TV). Easily fixed with a flat-plug extension pigtail, but it would be nice if the power cable were the standard IEC version.
