It's an interesting race: even as they develop DLP and OLED screens, they continue to improve the older technologies as well. As they're all compatible, the winner is you, the consumer!
Fast (4 msec), high contrast (10,000:1 dynamic contrast), wide viewing angle (176° vertical and horizontal), and multiple resolutions (480i/p, 720p, 1080i/p) make watching this LCD tv a joy, while NTSC, ATSC and QAM tuners mean years of protection from obsolescence. Multiple input connectors give you options for your video devices: HDMI, component video, and composite video. And at 52", you're starting to leave Captain Kirk territory and heading for Captain Picard territory. (Translation: headed from "big" to "huge".)
Competing technologies mean competitive prices, so shop and compare right now. We think you'll like what you see once you're done!

Excellent LCD
- Pros: I work for a home theater company, so I have seen lots of HDTVs set up in homes and calibrated correctly. There are two TV manufacturers that consistently make HDTVs that look better, and have more (useful) features than all the others. One is Sharp, and the other is P#####r. I went with the Sharp 82U when I needed a new TV for my living room, and I haven't been disappointed yet. One problem with LCD panels when used as a television has been the black levels (or lack thereof). This is not a problem with the Sharp 82U. It displays vivid colors and deep dark blacks. 1080p video is simply incredible on this TV, and my xbox 360 games look beautiful with the 120hz refresh rate. There has never been any ghosting or blurring while playing video games, and the high refresh rate is responsible. Also, there are discreet IR codes for every function on this TV. It also has an RS232 port on the back so it is easy to control with AMX, Crestron, ProntoPro, etc.
- Cons: Not really a con for me but...
The factory color and brightness settings on this television (as with all new televisions) are WAY off from where they need to be. If you are going to spend the money on a new TV, please have it calibrated. It makes the experience that much better, and it will extend the life of your TV. If you can't get it professionally calibrated for some reason, at least look on the web and find some published settings for your TV model from a certified ISF calibrator.
- Other Thoughts: I didn't buy my LC52D82U from New Egg, but I wish I had. At this price, it is hands down the best TV for your dollar. Why are you still reading? Stop thinking about it and add it to your cart!
- Pros: Price. Picture. Size. Just about everything. I have a PS3 hooked up via HDMI, Wii via component, and even my PC via HDMI and everything looks great. The Wii is slightly blurry, but that's to be expected at a resolution of 480p. This is my first 1080p television and I would recommend this unit to anyone.
- Cons: I did get a couple pixels stuck on, but they can only be seen when the screen is completely black. It seems that's been my luck with the last couple of LCDs I've bought. Newegg's pixel policy will not cover this, so keep that in mind. Also, the speakers are only ok, but you have a surround sound system already, right? :)
- Other Thoughts: Try to get everything you put on this TV in its native resolution, (1080p). Anything else will look slightly blurry. The picture will need adjusting slightly from its factory settings to produce the best results. This is very easy and can be done by following online instructions, or pay a technician to have it done professionally. Whatever you do, change the settings. This also increases the life of your screen.

When displayed next to my Toshiba, total junk
- Pros: Good price, I bought from dell for 1500 came with Blue ray player, good size, fast boot time.
- Cons: I have this mounted directly about a similar spected toshiba regza 120hz 52" and there is simply no comparison, I went so far to have an expert come in and try and dial in the settings, but it's simply a dull and washed out image. And to make matters worse the matching blue ray player stopped functioning after maybe 20 hours use, will not load any heavy content BR disk now. Do not buy this, you will regret it when you see what a TV of this size should look like.
- Other Thoughts: Don't bother, go with the toshiba regza, everyone who's seen the same image on both screens asks me what's wrong with the sharp. I'm sure there are others that look better then this thing, hell even my 22' spectre next to this looks brighter and more vibrant.
Happy
- Pros: Reliable. Great picture regardless of source, but blu-ray is phenomenal. Excellent connectivity.
- Cons: Not a true 120Hz LCD. A couple generations behind now. There are newer models within this price range that have better performance and black levels. Built-in speakers are adequate, but little else.
- Other Thoughts: I paid nearly twice this ~2 years ago from a different vendor albeit with a free blu-ray player and wall mount. I thought I got a good deal then and I've been very happy with it.
Decent, but not overly impressed.
- Pros: It works. Picture appears fairly decent. Plenty of ports to plug in anything you need to.
- Cons: Screen gets brighter and darker depending on the image. I turned off the option that is the supposed cause of this, but it doesn't appear to have done anything at all. This is very, very annoying. I'm hoping it's just something I've overlooked and one day I'll find a fix for this, but it hasn't happened yet.
- Other Thoughts: About 2 months after owning, a small cluster of pixels got stuck. I was able to massage them back after a while, but it's not something I want to have to deal with.
