Pros: The price is great and out of the box picture is wonderful.

Cons: This TV has serious burn in issues on the sidebars. Make sure you zoom in with regualr broadcast to avoid the black sidebars. I had the burn in protection set and tried to use burn in fix tool - not much help.

Other Thoughts: I called Samsung and they said this is a burn in issue and not under warranty. She also said the burn in protection does not protect from burn in - not really sure why its offered.

4 out of 5 eggsNice TV - watch out for burn-ins!

Pros: HD picture is very nice.

Cons: Standard def is not the greatest, but I have learned to live with it.

Make sure you watch more HD programming in the beginning or turn on the screen protection when you are not watching. I have had this TV for 6 months now and the bars on the side (blacked out during non-HD programming) are now overly bright when I watch HD channels. I wish Samsung displayed the unused portions of the screen as grey during non-HD brodcasts (I think Pioneer does this). I have tried to fix it using the burn protection feautures (which have helped a little) but it's still a little problem. I wish they offered white side bars as a burn protection feature to help even out the brightness.

Other Thoughts: Sound quality is okay (no real bottom end). When I watch the UFC (in HD of course) and have people over, I have to crank it up to almost 60 (out of 100).

I have heard a slight buzzing sound, but you have to be real close to the tv when the sound is muted or very low. Not a big issue for me and I have heard other Plasmas do this at Best Buy.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Plasma TV

Pros: Beautiful Image, brightness and colors are amazing, you can easily walk in any electronic store and notice samsung over the other brands, I own this model and I'm using it with samsung DVD player upconversion to 1080i with HDMI and the movies looks very close to what HD DVD and blu-ray is, the TV have enough outputs/inputs to plug everything you want, also love the glossy finish.

Cons: well, it's a plasma and if you want to use your Big screen TV for playing video games like I do then you have to take very good care of not having static images, even if I pause a movie for 20 minutes have suffered screen burn in, lucky that in a couple of days the burn in went away but I guess if the burn in is more severe it won't go away, but that's a downside for all plasmas not just this model

Other Thoughts: People complain about a buzz, well I had this TV since december 2006 and have no buzz, you have to turn everything off in a very quiet environment to listen a very insignificant buzz, so if you are listening to your tv you won't notice, maybe first shipments had the buzz but I guess Samsung fix it already I don't know, when I was making my decision to purchase this TV I almost choose a different brand because of this "buzz", but then I decided to buy this model and I never regret it, so don't let that stop you from buying this TV, and right now it's 1,699 what a great deal!! I paid 1,999, oh well.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Has enough inputs for everything you can ever want. I had walked into best buy to compare all the different plasma TVs, I decided for the price and quality the Samsung would be a smarter choice. But after hooking up my home system, computer, and most importantly having it calibrated it surpassed my expectations. It’s an awesome machine...

Cons: Like any other HDTV you need to use the best cables to get the high quality piture and sound. Not using HDMI is a sin.

Other Thoughts: People were talking about a BUZZ... I had that for like two minuets, it was when the deliverymen plugged the TV into an OUTLET to see if everything was working properly. After they left I plugged ALL electrical components into a surge protector (1300 joules and up would be best) and the buzz went a way. Besides I’m no professional in electrical wiring but only a fool would plug expensive high voltage components directly into an outlet. One bad surge could fry your TV.

4 out of 5 eggsSo Far, So Good

Pros: Not one to usually go into a purchase without doing exhaustive research and painstakingly comparing
multiple products. In my opinion this was the best choice for the size and price. No issues yet and
with a digital signal source the picture looks great. Even living in a very remote area I can still pull in several HDTV off-air channels with a simple antenna. And I love watching them, even the HDTV PBS channel. The quality of sound from the built in speakers is not to shabby either. I totally love the look of the piano black finish, it gives it a very classy look. They even include a microfiber cloth to help you remove fingerprints that you might place when moving or installing it. That was a nice touch. And dont get me started on inputs. I could probably hook my PS3,XBOX360,DVD Player, TIVO/SAT, all without issue. Oh' wait, I did. Seriously it has tons of connectivity. I feel very confident that I made a well informed and well educated purchase.

Cons: Really is heavier than it looks. Took much effort by me and my wife to lift this sucker up onto the mantle. But boy does it look great there.

Other Thoughts: Before I went to college to become a
CNN I was an electronics salesman. At that time I was hot and heavy a hardcore SONY fan. Thought that the Sun and Moon rose and set around them, and relegated Samsung to the "other guys" part of my salespitch. Boy how things have flipped. Although
Sony still "could" make a good product they are very spotty now these days. And Samsung, well they have really came up. If they can convert a former SONY advocate over, really testifies to the quality and workmanship they infuse into their brandname and products. LIVE SAMSUNG.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Deal!

Pros: Connections for everything!

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Bought this set in Nov. '05 and it has worked flawlessly since then. Did some research on extended warranties and decided against buying one as most experts expect these sets to outlast any warranty or fail during the regular warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsSamsung 5053 50" Plasma

Pros: Picture quality with 1080i sources is phenominal. Some have mentioned "hum" noises from Power supply, but I have no detectable noises. The only better unit I found at this size was the Pioneer, but the price difference wasn't worth it...

Cons: A bit slow changing from HD to non-HD modes, but overall a great set.

Pros: I have a decision on buying this product due to reviews you have on this, but my only question is I have not seen anyone mention about the extended warranty.

Cons: No comment at this time.

Other Thoughts: Can anyone provide feed back if extending the warranty is necessary. Your advice is greatly appreciated.

5 out of 5 eggswonderful TV

Pros: +Beautiful Screen
+Lots of connectors
+Hidden Speakers
+Handles to pick up the TV
+Nice looking Finish
+Can Zoom some inputs to get rid of black bars on widescreen

Cons: -Fingerprints show up on TV, especially around the power button
-Can't zoom PC or HDMI inputs
-Speakers sound ok

Other Thoughts: The TV is wonderful, and I love the way it looks. It buzzes slightly, but I can only hear it if the sound is off and I am standing within 3ft of it. Other than that, I can never hear it.

I can beleieve the deal with this and I combined it with a PS3 and blu-ray looks great on it!

4 out of 5 eggsVery nice tv

Pros: Beautiful Color and the Piano Finish Bezel is very modern. Much better looking than the fugly Panny's

Cons: Yes some Sept/Oct/Nov 5053's have a buzzing issue. Originally the one I had was a slight buzzer but then buzzing overpowered the tv at volumne levels under 13. I had CC replace it and the new one is whisper quiet

Other Thoughts: If you have or notice a buzzing visit avsforum dot com and learn more about it. I found that forums prior to choosing to get the sammy and feel very happy with my purchase
