3 out of 5 eggsA Great TV But With Some Flaws

Pros: Excellent picture (always expected with Samsung), swivel stand. Internal speakers are acceptable, even if not outstanding. 2 USB ports; will accept a keyboard for input. 3D capability was the main selling point, plus I wanted to go a bit larger with screen size (this replaced a 50" model). Overall, I have been satisfied with this TV, but that satisfaction has eroded somewhat.

Samsung support, though a bit convoluted, is very responsive.

Cons: GENERAL CONS: No audio output (?). 3D requires active 3D glasses which require batteries, but the 3D effect is amazing!

I have had several problems with this TV:

NETWORK CONNECTION: The TV sits on a stand along with a Samsung Blu-Ray player and a game console. The player and the console connect to my wireless network and STAY connected. This TV, however didn't stay connected from day one, and after a few months, it wouldn't connect at all (wouldn't even see any wireless networks), and my router is about 30 ft. or so from the TV. I even connected a second router that was placed about 6 ft. from the TV and it still wouldn't stay connected.
I connected an Ethernet cable directly to the TV and it sat for about 2 minutes trying to configure itself, then it just turned off an back on again. From that point, if I tried to configure network settings or even view network status, the TV would freeze (no response to remote) for about a minute, then turn off an back on again.

UPDATING FIRMWARE: There is a firmware update available for this TV, but I cannot update it over the network (for reasons explained above) and when I try doing it via USB, the TV says it cannot find the update files on the UBS flash drive (and they are there exactly as they are supposed to be).

TURNS ON AND OFF: After a few months, the TV would turn itself off and back on again randomly. It would do this maybe once or twice a day. It eventually got so bad that I had to call support. I timed it, and it was happening every 3 minutes and 15 seconds or so. Unplugging the power cord for about a minute then plugging it back in helped temporarily.

I finally called Samsung support, and a tech was on site the next day (which was great!). He wound up replacing the power module and the I/O board. When he left, the TV was working fine; I was able to connect to my wireless network, and the on/off cycling stopped. I haven't tried yet to update the firmware.

Two days after that however, the HDMI port #1 simply stopped working. I switched cables, and even connected another device to that port, but to no avail. So now the TV has only 2 working HDMI ports. I'm only saying I can live with this because I am planning to get an A/V receiver soon so it won't matter. This is still a disappointing thing though.

Other Thoughts: I bought this TV directly from Samsung during a promotion that meant a VERY significant break on the price. I am now wondering if this was part of a batch of known problematic units that they were just dumping to get rid of them. That's disappointing if that's true, but I don't know for sure that it is.

As I said, Samsung support is very responsive. I was able to talk to a real person on the phone (though of setting up a support ticket is a bit convoluted) and had a tech on site the next day.

I am a pretty firm supporter of Samsung products because they offer great products with great features at fairly reasonable prices, and even though I have been disappointed in this particular one, this will not deter me from buying Samsung products in the future. I will probably be more hesitant however, to buy products directly from Samsung that have the kind of discounts I got on this TV. :)

The thing that keeps me positive is that I still have about 6 months left on the full parts and labor warranty, and hopefully I can get all the issues resolved before that expires.

As it is though, I have to demote this particular product to only 3 eggs. This is no reflection on Samsung, just this particular product.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Quality no Service

Pros: Display looks good when it works.

Cons: I have a 67" Samsung DLP TV that cost $2500. After warranty expired ( a very short 1 year) the TV developed white spots due to the failure of the DLP chip. Despite an overwhelming number of customers with the same problem Samsung refuses to address the problem even though they did a secret recall on the 61" version of this TV. Do an internet search on white dot problem.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb TV

Pros: *Great quality picture as always from Samsung.
*Even on basic cable, HD channels come through crystal clear.
*TV came with a pair of 3D glasses.
*The apps feature is rich and works good.
*Fast built in WIFI allows for smooth Netflix.
*Xbox 360 looks great with minimal to no ghosting.

Cons: Right out of the box, I heard an audible buzz or humm if you will from the tv. This is inherent with Plasma's. I knew this issue going into this purchase. The buzz quickly gets faded out when any amount of sound comes from the tv and quickly turns into white noise that I can't even tell is there anymore. My only other gripe would be the sound. The built in speakers are so so and by no means anything special. I would definitely recommend some type of after market audio setup that connects with a toslink cable since that is the natural sound out from the TV.

Other Thoughts: Overall, the TV earns 5 eggs from me. I did not find a single rotten egg in the box. The fact that the TV hums comes with the territory of Plasma technology. I can say definitely that the issue is much better then in the past. Also its obvious that Samsung is spending R&D time on this series since there are firmware updates no older then one month. The TV wanted to update right out of the box and it seems like the apps menu was much faster afterwards. Over all I would recommend this TV for anyone looking to replace an older model or purchasing your first. Its a great deal and im certain you'll enjoy it.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW!

Pros: A great value, beautiful picture & better sound than I expected. I'm still planning on a home entertainment speaker system before the Superbowl.

Newegg had it here in just a few days, with free shipping.

As you would expect with a plasma, the picture does not wash out at all from an angle.

Cons: The picture was not perfect out of the box; bright whites seemed too white. There are plenty of adjustment options and I think I've about gotten it fixed.

Other Thoughts: I have tried hard but I cannot detect the buzzing others have mentioned. Neither can my wife & her hearing is excellent. Maybe this has been fixed.

Internet seems clumsy using the remote, but I understand there is an app that will let me use my wireless mouse & KB. Wireless receiver built in is a fantastic addition.

Thanks to the reviewer who stated the purpose of the black cylinders (magnets to prevent interference).

I love this TV!

5 out of 5 eggsMy first High Def TV

Pros: Beutiful Picture ! I switched from old projection type 45" inch to Plasma 60 " and its amaizing. Lots of features . I can see the freckles and blemishes on the faces of people.
I dont hear any Buzz sound. Football Games are outstanding. High def movies are a treat . Excellent TV !

Cons: Speakers are not good but I installed a good sound system.
A definate must for a TV like this.
I havent used the internet through the TV yet, so cant comment on that. Not as bright as an LED TV, but I knew that before I bought it .

Other Thoughts: I got this TV for 3 reasons : High Def , Sports , and 3D .
My Blue ray player does not support 3D so I had to order a New one . Other than that , This is the Best TV I have ever owned. Still waiting for the 3 D experience.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: -Price
-3D clarity
-Picture (when properly calibrated)
-Smart Hub
-Built in wifi
-Number of Inputs
-Easy to setup
-Stylish Bezel
-2 pairs of glasses included free (price of additional glasses is very reasonable)
-Black Levels are deep

Cons: -Calibration for optimal picture takes time
-Screen is very reflective so make sure you have it in a dark room.

Other Thoughts: I have 6 samsung flat screens including this one. 55" LED, 51" plasma, 32" lcd, and 2 27" LED Computer monitors. They are absolutely the best on the market in my opinion. I've owned several other popular brands and have replaced them all with Samsung. In regards to this TV, I was hesitant to buy into the 3D gimmick but after one of my friends picked it up and I watched a few 3D movies on his, it's by far the best 3D experience I've had. It's even better than the theaters. The price on newegg was great and I loved that it included free shipping.

If I had to complain about one thing, I'd have to complain about how long it took me to calibrate the TV. I'm not a professional so I could have paid to have it done, but decided to do it myself. I've had the tv for just under 2 weeks and last night I finally got the 2D picture to my liking. Note in 3D several of the picture problems I had in 2D went away due to the natural tint of the glasses. The picture was very washed out in 2D when there was a bunch of white on the screen. When I turned it down, it sacrificed other features that I liked having on. It took quite a bit of tweaking to get it balanced for 2D viewing. My LED only took a few tweaks here and there and it was perfect. Now that I have the settings right, I'm very happy with it. I contemplated returning it due to the fact that I couldn't get it right. Everyone's taste is different though so it may be perfect to you right out of the box :)

One other thing I should mention, I read numerous reviews about this TV humming or buzzing before I bought it and I haven't experienced that. I knew it might be a problem, however I'm not using the native speakers to the tv. With tv's getting thiner and thiner the speaker quality in them has come way down. The native speakers are pretty bad but that's not a con to me. I have a surround sound system and normal volume on the surround sound is much better than normal volume on the native tv speakers, so there's a chance it's being drowned out, but when muting the surround sound and moving around the room, I do not hear excessive buzzing. I've owned 3 plasmas over the course of the years and every one of them has a slight hum that is only audible if you put your ear about an inch from the tv, it's just the nature of the technology. I do have mine mounted to a tv stand that's about a foot away from the wall so it's possible that the people complaining have it mounted close to a wall and the sound is bouncing off the back wall, amplifying it. There are 2 magnents included that go on the power cord (one near the outlet and one near the back of the tv) that are included that many people might throw away or not know what to do with, so maybe that's what's getting rid of the buzz for me.

All in all I would recommend this tv to anyone. The price for a 60" 3D tv is very attractive and after getting it properly calibrated, I have 0 complaints going forward.

3 out of 5 eggsGREAT Value and quality

Pros: VERY easy set up. I am EXTREMELY serious in saying a child could set this TV up (aside from the heavy lifting) and this includes the networking portion. Very user friendly. Amazing quality. 3D works like a breeze. The stand they made for this TV is really nice. Made out of solid glass rather than the cheap squeaky stands you usually get.

Cons: A VERY annoying buzz. Even with the anti-interference plugs/tools they give you, it doesn't help. This is enough of a reason to give this TV 3/5 due to the fact I paid $1,300 for it and you think they would have put a little more effort into interference cancellation in their cords. Cheap call on Samsung's part.

Other Thoughts: You'd think they would care a little more about the quality of their TV's. I've heard about this complaint on the model I was buying but I wasn't quite sure what people were talking about. It's the equivalent to the buzz you got from an old CRT TV (Tube televisions) after powering them on. It's always there and will not go away. I'm not sure if I'm going to bare it or return it. Depends on how newegg or samsung is going to handle a RMA. Dunno how much freight shipping is.
