A beautiful mammoth of a display for windows and gaming.
- Pros: Huge, great colors when set up properly, no ghosting with the great 2ms response time, no discernible flickering (but it's actually 60hz, not 120hz as advertised the 120 is a cheap trick involving 60hz display + 60hz backlight, or something like that), and acceptable OSD menus. I bought this to replace my 32" T0shiba Regza 1080p 8ms 60hz that I bought last year. This one has far less ghosting but slightly worse overall color balance when properly set up. My set came very fast (ordered on Friday it was here on Tuesday) and was in mint condition. No bezel scratches, no marks, everything still looked and felt brand new. Remote/manual was wrapped and new, and the unit itself still had that sticky plastic wrapping covering it. Ozark Electronics did a great job re-certifying it. I've run it through the paces with dozens of games and its awesome, even old games: Mass Effect, HOMM3, IL2, Strong Bad Episode 1, Silent Storm, CIV4, Bridge-It, Anno1404, War3, Forza2, Burnout Revenge/Paradise, etc.
- Cons: Likes to change settings without telling you when switching modes and then forgets to change back when you revert to previous mode. I have to adjust the screen alignment every day because it changes it when I switch to console inputs. Apparently has some special requirements to detect signal -- if I switch from 360 HDMI to PC HDMI I have to move the mouse while switching or it thinks the PC input is inactive and won't bring it back up. Most of the special features of this monitor (pixelperfect, natural motion, even basic color controls) are not usable while in "PC" mode so you have to use your graphics card to set it up this way. Annoying. HDTV mode is not acceptable as a PC input because of the substandard method of displaying text (inaccurate drawing and the addition of ugly artificial shadow gradients), and PC mode isn't great either because, while the shadowing disappears, you see more "rainbowing" of the pixels. Anyone who has a gigantic screen knows what I mean. No RCA-audio out.
- Other Thoughts: A great purchase because it was so cheap and still basically brand new. Great for games, good for windows and everyday computing, I sit 3 feet away and its still wonderful. I have it hooked up to a high powered gaming PC (Q6600 @ 3.2ghz, 4gb DDR2 800, GTX 260 OC), a 360, a Wii, a Dreamcast, and a PS2. They all display fantastic, even the lower resolutions look great. I don't watch TV except on PC with video files, so I can't comment on the actual TV quality, but everything else I've thrown at it has worked out great. I hope this thing lasts 10 years. Just don't expect me to carry it anywhere.
Why did I hesistate to buy this? Don't make the same mistake I did!
- Pros: -Huge
-Ridiculous Price (might as well be stealing it right off the back of a truck) -No dead pixels -120Hz -2ms Response Time -Tons of features, HD Natural Motion, PixelPerfect, Custom Picture setups for movies, sports, tv..etc -Plenty of connections, 4 HDMI, 2 composite, 2 S-video, USB port -Awesome-looking picture -Crazy fast shipping from newegg, and FREE!! -Best sounding speakers from any LCD HDTV i've ever heard -Lots of user-adjustability from sound, picture, preferences and built in features such as balancing out volumes between two different channels to prevent one being so much louder than the other (I hate channels like that) -Built in sound equalizer on the TV that can be adjusted. -Light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness and color of the picture based on lighting condition in the room
- Cons: -I didn't buy it sooner
-No Picture-in-Picture -Now my friends won't stop coming over ever satuday and sunday to watch the games.
- Other Thoughts: This HDTV just rocks!!! I was looking at getting this TV back when it was recertified and on sale for $1299 instead of $1799, but I waffled. Then when i checked back last week, the price had fallen to $999 w/ FREE SHIPPING. I could not let that deal pass me by, so I bought it. I WOULD HAVE GLADLY PAID $1299 FOR THIS!! It is just fantastic, and I love everything about it. I went from a 55" older projection 1080i big screen to this, and wow it was like day and night. The picture is so crisp and clear, and with the sports setting, I feel like i am watching the game in-person from the sidelines.
Here is how I broke it down:
All of the reviews are either 5's or 1's. 1's are the few people who bought the recertified TV and it didn't function 100%. EVERYONE else gives this a 5 because this HDTV is a STEAL!! I weighed this, and basically concluded that I had about a 1 in 7 of getting a non-working TV, in which case I'd simply return it under the 30 day warranty. No risk, BUY I

awesome
- Pros: cheap
nice picture cheap big tv lcd
- Cons: fairly heavy
base takes a bit to remove very faint scuffs on face of frame
- Other Thoughts: great tv, dont hesitate to buy one if you are considering it. i waffled like brett farve for about 2 weeks debating on whether to buy this, and im glad i did...no regrets
Great TV
- Pros: Well, this is an awesome TV. I'm not a video expert, but I did go and compare side to side many tvs to see which one I liked more. This TV looks equally good as way more expensive models in my comparisons... When I saw it in Newegg, I just couldn't pass the deal.
The TV has brilliant colors, awesome interface, and it's beautiful. Being a refurb I was prepared to deal with annoyances, but the image is perfect, the TV looked brand new, and the whole experience is great. The TV is symmetrical, sound is great, and definitely you will spend some time customizing the image so it looks how you want it to look. Upgraded the firmware just in case.
- Cons: No VGA (analog) connection - AND makes difficult to leave your bed.
With the perfect pixel activated, looking tv hosts is weird, they seem to be a living puppet in front of the tv talking live to you. Too real. Given the price, I made the decision to go for it anyway.
- Other Thoughts: Prices on big LCDs have been particularly going south lately, but however you look at it, a 52 lcd for less than a grand (shipping and tax inc), it's a deal you cannot pass today.
The TV is gorgeous itself, definitely a steal.
Not really worth it
- Pros: Big enough. Cheap.
- Cons: Motion compensation is *massive overkill* on this TV. It made actors look like they were swimming in water. I turned it off, but then what is the point of 120hz? The Sharp Aquos I replaced this with after I returned it (see below) does a much better job at finding a middle ground.
Control options are miserably limited. If you want to be able to calibrate your display to get a good picture, do not bother with this model.
This is an outdated model -- for a few hundred bucks more, you can get a much better TV that was made in the last three months.
- Other Thoughts: You're gambling that the guy who owned it before you properly described his problem to Philips. Mine came fast from Newegg, but after two hours of use the LCD started failing and displaying weird colors. I don't really blame anyone for this -- I can't see Philips paying someone to watch each refurbished unit for 2+ hours to make sure they're good. But be prepared for a BIGTIME hassle if you have to return the unit. This thing is huge in its shipping box and the box must be cut open at the base to unpack, so returning it was a real bear. I decided to return the unit and for $300 more I got a more modern Sharp Aquos from a local dealer that looks much better and (best of all) came with a 1 year warranty and WORKED out of the box.
