2 out of 5 eggsAnother case of failure after a year

Pros: Works great until it dies (well, sound was never that impressive).

Cons: Another case of this model dying after a year. I swear they make the parts to last just long enough to get you through the 1 year warranty, then parts fail that you can't replace - they are just not available. So if you like paying 400-500 bucks a year for a TV, go for it.

The remote sensor was also disconnected when I first got it. Had to take the TV apart (which was easy enough) to simply plug it back in - it's just silly that they didn't secure that connection better.

5 out of 5 eggsDirect TV Remote Codes

Pros: For the Direct TV codes use "Sony". This is for the HD boxes made in the last 2 years.

Slide button over to "TV"
Hit Mute & SELECT light blinks twice
Enter 10000
Press volume up or down. Should change.

While slide is on "TV" the functional keys are:
Menu
Volume (moves < > )
Channel (moves menu items up or down)

For TV Input (choice HDMI, TV, YPb etc.)
Repeat for TV code (slide to TV)
Mute & Select Blink twice
Enter 960
Hit Done on screen with Select button each time

Cons: Took me a year to figure this stuff out (I'm also lazy).

Other Thoughts: Really Nice TV, np

3 out of 5 eggsdecent tv

Pros: Price and Size

Cons: Mine suffers from the same speaker hum that others have reported, had to use some computer speakers. One stuck pixel, I thought this would not bother me but it turns out that it drives me nuts, if I had bought this locally I would have taken it back...

Other Thoughts: Still trying to get the colors to look right but that should be corrected by using a calibration dvd. Overall the tv is not bad for the price paid. However in the future I probably won't buy any more Sceptre tvs.

By the way, this is not a 1080p TV, it just accepts the 1080p signal and downconverts it to 720p, look in the manual for the max resolution specs.

3 out of 5 eggsGood bargain, but could be better

Pros: The TV is a fantastic value for the price. Easy to set up, versatile (3 HDMI inputs, plus component), and a very convenient analog audio out to connect to a stereo system for extra sound. Customizeable HD Tuner means I can program channel names and favorites, it downloads TV ratings, etc.

Cons: TV arrived with one dead pixel in the lower left corner of the screen, displaying green only. After a while, you start to ignore it, but it's bright and prominent when the display has anything on it other than a green sports field. The unit, when the sound is turned down low, has an audible buzz that goes away when the TV is muted. It's easily drowned out by the TV's speakers or external speakers, but can cause some aggravation with late night low-volume viewing.

Other Thoughts: The TV was a great value, but I was forced to minus two eggs for the missing pixel and the audio buzzing. The Sceptre was a good compromise for the value, but a true cinemaphile would want to upgrade to something nicer.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like the day I got it.

Pros: Sharp clear crisp image.
This says 720p but the box says 1080P and it DOES 1080P.
If this is right for the distance between you and your TV then by all means do it.
Bought this over a year ago (7/17/09) on a special for 399.99 and it still kicks like a higher dollar TV.
3 hdmi inputs.
It has a headphone out which is good for 2.1 surround with 3.5mm input. I hooked one up to mine and it kicks hard in my little apartment.

This is worth the buy. If you are looking for one of the best 37" flat panels that has the most bang for buck this is it. It's high quality with low price tag.

Cons: I would have liked more AV inputs but I can solve this problem with ease, a 30 dollar investment in an AV splitter selection box. Keeps it to where I can use my DVD and Wii without reaching behind to rewire.

Other Thoughts: If you turn the volume up loud enough on the TV you might notice a slight vibration in the speaker as if a panel or speaker wasn't tightened down good.
I RARELY if EVER hear this out of mine. Only when I crank it WAY up and someone is talking in a medium voice (usually female) so as I said I rarely hear it make any extra noise.

One last addition to my other thoughts is that I had a pixel to get stuck on red about 2 or 3 months into ownership.
After hooking up the computer using D-SUB connector and running a program called UDpixel (undead pixel)(yes, it's free) and leaving it running for a few hours when I was scheduled to be out of the house, I came home to find my problem cleared up completely.

5 out of 5 eggsFollow up review...

Pros: Value. I don't know the last time I have truly seen this kind of value on an electronics item.

I use this TV with a DVD player that "upconverts" DVDs to 1080p (*eye roll*) but it looks excellent on standard DVDs.

I have my Xbox360 connected via HDMI playing games and streaming netflix. Looks fantastic.

I use the rear VGA connection to connect my laptop to the tv periodically when I'm feeling bored. The quality is suprisingly nice.

Cons: -Standard cable looks pretty bad. But that goes for just about any HD tv you buy.

-The speakers truly are terrible. If you plan on using this TV in a large room and will need to turn the volume up you need to get seperate speakers. (I have this connected to my 5.1 surround system.)

-HDMI carries the sound signal from your devices and into the tv, however the output (SPDIF) won't carry the signal out in 5.1.

Not the end of the world for me because I simply hooked the audio directly into my surround sound system via coax. But just something to watch out for.

Other Thoughts: This is a follow up review to one I posted when I first got the TV. My thoughts on it changed just a tad, but for the positive.

At first I glance (basing my opinion off of standard cable) I was dissapointed in the video quality. But once I hooked everything in and really gave this thing a solid 6 months of use I am incredbily satisfied.

This is a terrific value. Not the best tv you'll ever own, but certainly the best bang for the buck you'll find anywhere.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: 1080p, rca and digital audio out, analog and digital tuner.
I picked up over 180 stations just with expanded basic cable. Hdmi cable included, rgb, s-video, vga and rca video and audio connections.
No dead pixels

Cons: Not worth mentioning

Other Thoughts: Great Buy

4 out of 5 eggsGreat TV for the price

Pros: Excellent array of signal connection options. Easy to use set-up menus. Well laid-out remote. Clear picture. It is evident Sceptre invested some real time on creating a very good user interface so ancient technology folks like me don't have to resort to the humiliation of asking my 8-year-old for help.

Cons: One dead pixel. TV makes a buzzing noise that sounds like a lone hornet is trying to escape and got mad in the process.

Other Thoughts: I bought this TV from Newegg, with their usual fast shipping and top notch service.

For the money, this is a great TV. I took off one star because of the buzzing noise. The built-in speakers are small so you can't get sound that is full enough, loud enough to make the buzzing fade away. I bought this TV primarily for the kids' Wii, and for this it works excellently. Buzzing does not matter when the kids are screaming their heads off trying to kill each other in a swordfight. However I do not recommend this TV for a quiet place like a bedroom because the buzzing will drive you insane.

The configuration menus are easy and intuitive. The factory preset colors need adjusting unless you prefer skin tone the color of carrot juice. After only 5 minutes of playing with the color adjustments, images now look fine.

5 out of 5 eggsExceeded expectations

Pros: 1080p, as indicated on the box and the monitor itself.
The picture is bright and clear.
The speakers are actually pretty good for internal speakers.
The one I received had no dead or stuck pixels or light leakage that I can detect.

Cons: The only real gripe I have is that there is no 4:3 zoom mode, which all of my other TV's have. This is useful for widescreen DVDs and DVD images that are actually coded as 4:3, because they are stretched in zoom mode, even though the movie itself is widescreen. This is far too minor to deserve the loss of a star, though.

Other Thoughts: The remote is fairly basic and will only work when pointed fairly straight at the base of the TV.
There is a visible zone pattern on the screen when the picture is all black, but it's only noticeable when the screen is black for a long time and I'm close to it. It does not affect the picture at any other time.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Value for Bedroom or Dorm

Coming Soon!

Pros: Price, price, price, did I say price? Got this on sale for three-hundred sixty dollars! As far as I'm concerned the colors are excellent, I'm not very picky though. The speakers are decent but I'll stick with my external set.

Cons: One stuck pixel, but I can only see it if I look for it. For the price I paid this does not mar my satisfaction one bit. I'm not expecting much from sceptre's warranty, and neither should you. If you are purchasing this as a long term investment and the warranty is important to you then shell out the extra money for a name brand set. On the other hand if you are looking for an extra TV for your bedroom or dorm then this is a great buy when it is on sale.

Other Thoughts: It is 1080p, but they cannot advertise it as such due to the fact that it can only do 720p through the VGA input. But if you use HDMI or component you are good to go. The video I have included does not do this TV justice, it was shot with my laptops webcam.
