5 out of 5 eggsVery Pleased

Pros: Many media hookups, great picture, was incredibly cheap when on sale, around $400.

Cons: Sounds a little iffy, Not inconsistent, just not the best speakers. When the package arrived it was just the box like you'd see on display at a big box store but with obvious signs of travel damage. Though the TV itself came in great condition, I was very worried opening up the box.

Other Thoughts: If you pay $400 for it like I did, you can't beat it. Seriously.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV, Newegg is Awesome, Ups Sucks

Pros: The image is absolutely stunning; this is true 1080p HD and such a big screen for such a ridiculous price; Newegg just got robbed ;]

Cons: Not really a con, but the tv came in a box that was beat to ****; I previously purchased a Sceptre Tv from newegg that was smaller and when UPS delivered it, I had to RMA because they broke the TV when it was dropped. This box came completely torn up and with a giant hole on the side of the box; I was afraid to open and see if it was broken, but luckily it came out fine.

Other Thoughts: UPS, go play in traffic; seriously. Can't get a better deal for the price, but no, seriously, UPS go play in traffic; stop handling TVS like they're cardboard. K thanks.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat as a digital photo frame, not so great as a TV...

Pros: Amazing still photo quality
Rich, deep colors
Excellent contrast
Native USB port supports use as a digital photo frame
No video blur/smear despite only 60 Hz refresh rate
GREAT value for the price

Cons: Quality is substandard with video (as opposed to stills)

Other Thoughts: We wanted to have two LCD monitors acting as photo frames on a big wall. A 42 incher for ~$360 seemed like a deal, so we purchased a first one as an experiment.

On arrival, we were thrilled to find its native USB connector and menu system made it very easy to set up a slideshow. No other hardware required, just plug in your thumbdrive and use the menu to start the show. It even has nice transitions and adjustable dwell time.

We also tried it as a television monitor, driven by our Philips DVR at 1080i via HDMI. We tested side by side with a CRT-based monitor. Sadly, with moving images the monitor suffers a bit. Adjust to eliminate blooming/oversaturation and the shadows go completely black. Adjust so shadows have the same definition as on the CRT, and the bright areas blindingly oversaturate.

I'd give it 5+ eggs as a digital photo frame, but only 3 as a TV monitor. Hence the 4 egg rating. We bought a 2nd unit and we're thrilled with them for slide shows, but for video look else

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: Price, 3 HDMI, VGA input, USB reader. The EQ and the srs surround is useful if you use the headphones out and connect external speakers, since the ones that already has are bad! Although its just 60Hz, there's no problem on watching TV even more than 3-4 hours a day.

Cons: Bad speakers. Need external ones, or audio output. Only 60Hz.

Other Thoughts: TV so far is pretty good. Image is fine, brightness, response and refresh rate (although 60Hz). I only used HD with my computer HDMI output and image was very good. I would definitely recommended because you cant really buy anything better at that price range. Definitely worth the money, minus just 1 star for the speakers and 60 Hz.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent as a monitor

Pros: Definitely one of the best deals on a 42'' LCD. I've been using Sceptre since 2008 and I've yet to see one of their LCD monitors go bad. I've been using a 24'' for the past few years, but I decided it was time for an upgrade, and couldn't be happier.

Cons: None really. Colors are vivid and deep. Using the VGA port made for an automatic 1920x1080 setup that looks fantastic. The actual TV part of it works well too, finding all of my digital and analog channels within a 10 minute period. Everything looks as good as it can in SD.

Other Thoughts: If you can get this for the price I did ($370), you won't regret this purchase one bit.

3 out of 5 eggsTV WAS awesome

Pros: loud and good contrast.

Cons: Died after 3 weeks of owning, VERY minimal usage (~15 hours total)

Other Thoughts: TV was great for its price, unfortunately adding 60$ to it to RMA it back to newegg balanced this out pretty quickly. Sucks, but at least it was still in 30 days.

5 out of 5 eggsScepter 42" 1080p LCD

Pros: Bright, sharp video. No motion blur in sports. Lots of HDMI inputs. Still looks great at night in dark room. all video sources upconvert decently. 480i is watchable, but it is obvious that it is an inferior signal compared to everything above including 480p from wii(Using component cables.) 480p looks great unless you directly compare it to a 1080i/p picture. Netflix streams at 1080p through HDMI from iPad2 flawlessly. This TV prefers excellent video sources.

Cons: Sound is not a deal breaker but it does not match the video quality. Sound is passable and on quiet nights the volume is fine at one or two bars above zero. The sound gets lost in a loud room and distorts if turned up more than 50%. I will get a soundbar with a sub woofer to supplement or replace the TV speakers someday. Only one set of component input and no S-Video input. Would have liked to use Wii and DVD player at best possible resolution but can only do one or the other without an aftermarket video switch. (Maybe just time for a new HDMI-out BD player...)

Other Thoughts: Ordered this from WM for $50 less than the Egg-free shipping site to store worked well. Aside from great HD video, 4 HDMI inputs is the big seller for this TV. A single coax spdif output should transmit great sound from the TV whenever I get a real sound system but I wish it had an optical out too since most AV receivers have Optical Toslink spdif.
The stand has a great swivel that lets you turn it to hook up inputs and get behind it easily. It's sturdy but has a little wiggle unlike my Panny and Samsung plasmas which are noticeably more solid (but do NOT swivel...) Overall great TV for my beach house!
