5 out of 5 eggsgreat value

Pros: For four hundred dollars and free shipping, this has to be the best value out there! This is a huge improvment over my 10 year old 42" Panas*** plasma. The picture is bright and crisp. This might not be top of the line but did I mention it's the best value for the money.

Cons: There is a little bit of blur in fast motion. The stand is a little wobbley.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent price
Very good picture, clean and sharp
Decent contrast, blacks are nearly totally black
Plenty of inputs
Totally silent operation, some other flat panels I hear the power supply clicking on/off or even a slight hum from the screen, not with this TV at all

Cons: Shipping was a little slow, to be expected though with freight... can't take an egg away for that. Shipping was free!

Other Thoughts: The first few days using this there was a noticeable blob in the center of the screen that was brighter than the rest of the viewing area. It was pretty annoying during dark portions of films and shows. It seems to have gone away now and it looks even all across the screen. This being my first large lcd I'm not too familiar with how they operate. Perhaps that was the "break in" period? Anyway this tv, IMO, looks better than my buddy's 55" Samsung that he spent almost $2k on. The preset modes look ok but I think that you can make it look fantastic with the user settings and tweaking it to fit it's surroundings. It can get quite bright but I think it starts to wash out some color. The room it's in doesn't have that much natural light anyway so it's not a problem for me. So far everything I've thrown at it has looked great, from TV to games to blu-ray. Definitely do not regret this purchase at all!

5 out of 5 eggsUnbeatable TV for the Price

Pros: First off, I bought this TV as a special for $399 with free shipping. To say it blew away any and all expectations I had is an understatement. The picture on this TV is stunning and it arrived with zero dead pixels!

After receiving the TV, I believe it is actually worth the $699, even though I didn't pay that.

It has 3 HDMI ports, component, composite, VGA, and coax in. Everything you would ever need for a TV.

Cons: As some have mentioned, the speakers aren't great. Though they aren't as bad as I expected after reading the other reviewer's comments.

However, I buy a TV for the picture, not the sound, so I cannot take any eggs away.

I have tried to program my universal remotes to control this TV, but I have had no luck. The user manual says that the TV operates using universal Sony remote codes, however, all codes that I have tried have not worked :/

Since I am currently using this as a PC monitor, I really have no need for the remote so it's not a big deal!

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this TV to anyone looking for a large flat screen. Maybe with some time, it will go back on sale, I hope whoever reads this review jumps on the opportunity like I did!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: TV looks great. The size (depth) is sized perfect for hanging. Not as slim as my Samsung smart TV but hey thats one of the reasons I paid extra for the Samsung.

Cons: The audio is in an enclove so I get great acoustics. If it were not in this location, I could get upset with the audio. Lets be honest, at 50" you should have a surround sound system up. The remote isn't all that fancy, so if you wanna fix that grab a Logitec Harmony remote.

Other Thoughts: I've had no issues with the TV. I run Blu Ray, PS3 XBOX360 WiiU and even NES(1985). They all look great.

2 out of 5 eggsNothing to cry home about

Pros: The value for Sceptre TV's is remarkable. That's probably what attracts most people to purchasing them. As a new TV picture quality is within the standard.

Cons: First off I did not purchase this particular Sceptre TV. My review concerns all Sceptre TVs. I've owned two ('older' and 'newer') Sceptre TV's and they are pretty universal in their shortcomings. 1. universally being sub standard speakers. Which I suggest a 3rd party audio system to eliminate that issue. 2. If you're not as diligent as some owners and leave the tv on for several hours each day (i.e. forget to turn off or use of sleep timer etc.) dark to faded black spots/streaks appear on the screen. Which is understandable considering the negligent behavior. On the plus side I left the 'older' sceptre sit for over a year (which it probably is an over estimate) and the black spots/streaks disappeared the next time I used it. My bad habit of leaving the TV on lead back to a different pattern of black spots and streaks on the screen. Lastly, the 'newer' Sceptre started something completely different. By no fault of my own (and I can't believe leaving the TV on would cause this) the upper 3rd of the screen started erratically pulsing lines (i.e. horizontal lines flashing intermittently without pattern). Slowly but surely this snowballed into the right half of the screen dims and clears fades colors. Almost like the old 'scrambled' stations. Then the supernatural would touch the TV and be fine for 3 days or more. But it became progressively worse until I put it out of its misery.

So not to downplay this particular TV but sceptre's in my limited personal opinion are not worth saving the extra 100 or 200 dollars on.

Other Thoughts: I see the inherent likeness for low cost tvs but my experience after these two tvs is never to buy a sceptre again. I will stick with a name brand Sony, Sharp, Panasonic or whoever. After the last Sceptre I will not look at another like it or consider it as a wise entertainment investment.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Tv for low cost

Pros: This tv is a great value for the money I have bought 5 sceptre tv in the past month of various sizes and they have all been working great including this one. The picture is great setup is easy and its fairly light.

Cons: Not a big deal but the speakers aren't amazing but at this size you want surround sound setup anyway.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome TV and Wicked Picture!

Pros: I've been a Sceptre vendor before and have always been very happy with selling them as the price was always nice and so were the quality of their products! A little history: Sceptre was one of the first to get LCD monitors on the market, it goes back to 1996-1998. Therefore, they know how to do it well. So don't be fooled into buying another monitor if you need one. You simply get more than you paid for with this brand.

Cons: One con you may not like though, but should not bother many. The words on the remote are very difficult to read if you have bad vision like me.

Other Thoughts: Thanks Newegg, for the speedy delivery and keeping Sceptre prices low!
