3 out of 5 eggsDecent, but not great

Pros: Bought in 2012 and it's still working after 3 years. Picture quality is ok, but not great. For the time, it was a great price for the size with multiple inputs. Works good as a monitor; I used on my HTPC. Some TV's have good panels for video, but suck at desktop content. This TV is the opposite. See cons...

Cons: Lots of ghosting, especially in dark scenes. Takes a long time to power on. Remote isn't bad, but not great. Buttons have a bit too much resistance. Speakers are total (expletive deleted); I expect more from built in speakers on a TV, as most people aren't going to connect it to an external audio solution.

Other Thoughts: I've been turned off on this brand due to the cons. I could live with everything else, but the ghosting is a show stopper for me. I gave it to my dad when his living room TV died and I was happy to see it go. He got a new TV for Christmas this year (2015), so I think it's going out into the shop.

Not a bad TV, jut not good either. Maybe after 3 years this brand has improved, but I don't have the income to be able to spend $300+ on something that might not be that good.

The only reason it gets 3 stars instead of 2 (due to ghosting) is because it's still working after 3 years with no visible effects from age. Works as good as the day I bought it, which isn't that great, but kudos for longevity.

1 out of 5 eggsKeep it out of stock

Pros: It does qualify as a TV

Cons: This TV needs to stay out of stock and never restocked anywhere except for the recycling container. The Sceptre Customer Service representatives practice skeptical customer service practices. I'm done with this product. Next time I'm going to Best Buy and spend the extra money and get a quality TV. I learned my lesson.

1 out of 5 eggsThis TV is garbage

Pros: I was rarely used. I bought two of these because of this price

Cons: We rarely use this television and had it for just under 2.5 years. The other night my wife was watching it in the bedroom and the TV made a loud pop like a firecracker, and TV didn't have a picture anymore but it did have sound. The blue light was still lit. She wrote to the sceptre rep and they wrote back and asked did we plug it in a different outlet and wait 30 minutes. I'm like wow!! Did you see what we just described. Then the sceptre rep didn't even sign his or her name to the email and left no contact information. I wish I would have heeded to the warnings that were posted about the negative reviews about this product. I just purchased two more 32" TV's from tiger direct, Now I have no faith in sceptre. You are warned.

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but slightly misleading

Pros: Good price and plenty of ports to hook up different systems, PCs, etc.

Has useful menu options for ratio control and a little bit of up-scaling control (I've seen better)

Cons: The TV can run things at 1080p, but turns out that it's native resolution is actually 1680x1050 and not true 1080p.

Which means your video quality can be really messy.

Running my PC through it at 1080 looks terrible, but running it 1050 looks great.

Had a few problems with PS3 games as well, with them looking a lot better in 720p

Other Thoughts: Good price for a TV of this size, but do realize there are better products and that this is best used in 1050p not 1080p.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat TV

Pros: Great TV for a cheap price! First flatscreen TV I've ever bought and it was a great choice for the money, you couldn't beat it!

Cons: Speakers are a little rattley since they're integrated into the casing, but that's not a big deal. Also are the ports are on the side of the TV, which is great for accessibility but looks absolutely horrible if you care about hiding cables.

Other Thoughts: My father bought me a similar model for Chirstmas that has the ports behind the TV, facing downward, for the same amount of money by the same company. Works just the same, may want to consider that one if you care about cables hanging out the side of your TV.

3 out of 5 eggsright side speaker issue

Pros: I have had this tv for almost a year. I use it as a monitor for my desktop. It still produces good picture quality.

Cons: the right side speakers are deffective and buzz loudly. You can compensate by using the balance feature in the audio settings, but you won't be able to hear the right side speakers. I had read the reviews and figured this would probably be an issue, but didn't really care because the price was so low.

Other Thoughts: good if you want a cheap tv with good picture quality, but don't care about sound at all (seriously the sound really sucks).

4 out of 5 eggsGood tv

Pros: Works well picture quality is good and you get a lot of screen for your money here.

Cons: Sound quality, especially with lower bass is not good, during really low bass the tv will just kinda vibrate and not do the sound it is supposed to.

4 out of 5 eggsSolid TV for the price

Pros: Was a little hesitant about a refurb, but have had no problems for six months now. The TV has multiple inputs and looks great. You won't find a 40" HDTV at a better price. I use it for netflix and live sports, and both look great on it.

Cons: The sound is subpar, as could be expected from a budget TV. A soundbar fixes that easily. Boot up time is a surprising 5-10 seconds, which while annoying isn't really a dealbreaker.

Other Thoughts: Probably one of the strongest 40" tvs at this price point, but you get what you pay for. I'm very happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggsCompatability Problem

Pros: Good picture, easy setup. No complaints. However, see the cons...

Cons: I went through some serious troubleshooting on my own, repeated the same steps with new egg, and had the Dish guys out on many occasions changing everything out between the satellite and this TV, all in a vain attempt to solve an intermittent audio issue where the sound would suddenly turn into a repetitive, rapid pulsating sound. If I changed the channel and then returned it back to the same channel, it cleared up. Newegg was awesome about returning it for replacement but the replacement one did the same thing. I bought a different TV and it never has shown this problem as do none of the others in my house of other brands.

Conclusion: This TV is incompatible with Dish equipment. I use it as the center monitor of my PC display array and it works great as I'm sure it works well with cable or even DirectTV.

Other Thoughts: If you have Dish, I suggest avoiding this TV. Otherwise, it is awesome, especially for the price!
