5 out of 5 eggsHigh Quality HDTV

Pros: I got this refurbished, I don't know why it is refurbished because it works perfectly fine. I might have been lucky and gotten the TV that someone bought, but then returned for no apparent reason. Either case, excellent TV!

Cons: It wasn't free.

Other Thoughts: I'm kinda blown away I was able to get such a high quality TV for such a low price. Not to mention when I ordered it went out of stock immediately afterwards so I might have gotten the last one. So much luck go on here!

1 out of 5 eggs Dead pixels on two TVs in a row.

Pros: Cheap. Nice picture, if not for the defective pixels.

Cons: Cheap. Poor quality.

Other Thoughts: Bought this TV brand new, and it had a cluster of bright green pixels. Exchanged for another identical one, and it had a bad pixel, too. This is the first TV I've had with this issue, so I will not be buying this brand again.

3 out of 5 eggsRead reviews with skepticism

Pros: Price, obviously. For a TV of this size with these specs the price is a steal. There are 23" computer monitors at my local big-box retailer that cost more than this thing. Also, free shipping. Or should I say FREE SHIPPING! Shipping for an item this size could easily run 50-80 bucks, and that's for a slowboat ship method, not express.

Cons: Quality. Obviously, when you spend less than three bills for a 40" high-def TV you are not going to get a Sharp Aquos. If you think you are, then you're an idiot and at least do the rest of us a favor and do your whining in quiet. Nobody likes a crybaby, especially a crybaby who's whining because he did not get Dom Perignon quality on a Bud Lite budget.

Other Thoughts: Read these reviews with skepticism. There's always one maladjusted malcontent who orders something like this and is then disappointed because he did not, in fact, get a top of the line TV for less than $300. For example, if you study the language it becomes obvious that the four negative reviews of this TV were written by the same guy, who came in under at least three bogus user IDs to review-bomb the product. Okay, we understand that you were disappointed with that massive "cluster" of bad pixels you had staring at you from your eagerly-anticipated new(ish) TV, and that you became despondent because your LCD failed and "rainbowed" across its upper half, and we all have deep sympathy for your grevious loss. But you could have said it just once, you know. Most of us both read and understand English and got it the first time. I hate to have to speak so frankly to you during your time of grief, but you know that's a chance you take when you BUY A REFURBISHED 40" HI-DEF TV FOR UNDER 300 EFFIN' DOLLARS. In the future, I recommend you spare your self the risk of horror and loss, and spend at least $4000 on your next TV. And avoid at all costs purchasing a refurbed product. Yes, it's an awful lot of money, but what cost is your peace of mind and sanity worth? Your welcome, and G o d bless.

1 out of 5 eggsBad refurb

Pros: arrived fast

Cons: The TV was supposed to be refurbished to original manufacturer's specs but 7 dead pixels in a single cluster exceeds that spec! It was probably sent for refurbishing for that reason. Refurbishing was done by third party and not by the manufacturer unfortunately, so it was done purely or not at all. The TV came with 2 out of 5 screws missing so the stand cannot be safely attached to TV. They sent 2 extra screws but they are not the right kind and they are of 2 different screws. When calling the refurbishing company on their customer service line I leave the message and nobody ever calls me back. Manual came as PDF on a CD that was thrown in the same bag with the screws, and had no paper sleeve so it got scratched. Remote came with alkaline batteries already placed in it. Refurbishing date was Jan 2013 so it means the batteries were there for 6 months and could have spilled. Bad quality refurbishing.

Other Thoughts: Sending back TV for replacement will cost me big bucs. It is just not right. This TV should not have been deemed in the condition to be sold. You can sell it at further discounted price, since it is not refurbished to the manufacturer's original specs as it is advertised on the website.

1 out of 5 eggsmixed feelings

Pros: nice looks

Cons: Has a cluster of bright, bad pixels, came with wrong screws for stand, TV channel scan does not find any channels while other TV finds several from the same roof antenna, refurbished by third party (not manufacturer) who don't return my calls

Other Thoughts: The TV arrived in the original packaging the next day after it was ordered.. Product, even though it was refurbished, was in great physical condition - no scratches etc. No paper manualwas included, just a CD recorded by refurbishing company with the pdf manual
on it. CD was thrown in a plastic bag along with 5 mloose, metal screws that scratched the disc. Insted all 5 screws being the same kind, they were of 3 different kinds so I could not attach the stand. I tried calling the customer support line of the refurbisher (note included in the box) and left 2 messages with them, but they did not return my calls. TV turns on but it has a cluster of several bad (bright) pictures in the middle of the screen. I imagine this was why the fist owner returned it. The refurbishing company (not the manufacturer) instead of refurbishing it deemed it good enough and shipped it to me (poor quality control). TV also does not find any TV channels while other similar TV hooked up to the same roof mounted antenna finds several. This may be another part that is broken, or it may just be a less sensitive "tuner" used in this model TV. If I was to return the TV, I would have to pay return shipping. The store only charged me few dollars for shipping it to me, but I it would be around 60 bucks for me to return it to them. I will speak to the store people and will update this review if they will offer me a good solution.
My advice is to stay away from refurbished goods that are not refurbished by the original manufacturer. Those 3rd party guys don't typically deliver quality services. If the issues are not resolved I will not buy from this store anymore.

4 out of 5 eggsGood for the price

Pros: Obviously the first pro is that it's cheap. For the specifications you're buying, you can't beat this price. The video quality is good when using HDMI cables with HD devices. There are plenty of inputs to choose from, also.

I have another, off brand TV, of the same size and specs but this brand seems to have better video quality then the similarly priced competitors.

The cosmetic design is attractive in my opinion having a brushed aluminium look around the screen. This TV overall is a nice, thin width which is nice to see for modern TV's.

Cons: There were two problems I ran into when I first set up this TV.

The first issue was in order to receive audio out from any of the RCA or Component inputs, the "Audio In" jack on one specific input HAD to be used. In example, I was hooking my Nintendo Wii up to this TV with an improved definition (5 pin Component) cable (made by Nintendo®) into the HD (5 pin) Component input. No sound would come from the Wii out of the TV's speakers until I switched the Audio L and R to the other RCA (3 pin) input while leaving the video in the other Component (5 pin) input. It seemed no matter what device I tried to make work the Audio In had to be plugged into the standard RCA input. This is strange because when you select an input with the TV remote, it didn't matter which input you chose sound ALWAYS played out of the RCA input while the video would be from another input.*(see Other Thoughts)

The other issue I ran into was with the audio settings themselves in the menu. Right out of the box the settings were set to the wrong things. I know this because whenever I turned the volume up past about 1/4 of the way on, the bass would bottom out and become scratchy and unable to hear. I fixed this, however, by turning off all the sound effects options so no real harm. This was just unprofessional in my opinion to have been sent straight to the customer like this. I'm sure many non-tech savvy people would not have thought to go deep into the menus and by trial and error resolve this major concern.

Other Thoughts: *I figured this was an internal issue unresolved from the refurbishing process and thought it would be a huge hassle to do an RMA. Not to mention I would be out a TV for several weeks if they even did accept it.

Overall a good TV for the price.
