5 out of 5 eggsTHe best in DLP

Pros: I bought the 46" and I love it. came with 2 HDMI instead of one. I can really tell the diffrence in the 3 LCD over my friend's 50" DLP.

Cons: not 1080 but still just as sharp.

Other Thoughts: For best viewing angle DLP's must be eye level or higher. I have mine about 3 1/2 feet off the ground and the picture clarity is beautiful. I believe DLP is a better choice in the long run because in a year or two you can replace the bulb and the image is just as bright as when you bought it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood entry point for HDTV

Pros: I've had the 42A10 for a year this month and I've been very pleased with the set. It runs cool and the rear fan is near silent. I don't hear it until I turn the unit off and let it do its cool down cycle.

Standard Def content looks very good as long as it is broadcast in digital. DTV viewers will be okay but cable viewers should check with their cable company to verify an all digital line up. Many have already made the move to all digital. If so, you're set. Remember that analog signals have video noise that only gets worse with larger screens - and there is nothing that can be done about it.

For HD content the set performs very well. I see no screen door effect and I sit about 8 feet away, max. Colors are almost spot on right out of the box but some people may notice a "red push" which can be adjusted if it bothers you.

Audio is quite good for a set of this size. The speakers are hidden under the screen to give you more viewing area without using up needed space.

Cons: Only one HDMI input.

Other Thoughts: Plenty of inputs for various devices, but I wish it had at least one more HDMI (Blue-Ray?). You haven't seen HD until you see it with HDMI. Forget about using any other method if you want the most out of your HD content. Get your HDMI cable online and you'll never regret it.

The 42" is the sweet spot for viewing at 5-7 feet but if I could do it over again I would get at least a Sony 50" or larger. The 8 foot max viewing distance is fine for SD broadcasts but leaves me wanting a larger viewing area for good HD content.

Sony does HD right. If you want the best in a rear LCD look at the XBR series, but you won't find one at this price point anytime soon. If this is your budget and your viewing distance is no more than 7 feet then this could be the TV for you.

One last note: Don't get hung up on Plasma until you compare the power draw. LCD outputs very little heat in the room compared to Plasma and is much cheper to operate. Do a Google on HDTV reviews for more info
