3 out of 5 eggsDecent budget television

Pros: Great contrast ratio. Decent amount of options for an entry level television.

Cons: Motion performance is average at best. This will likely only become an issue if you watch sports or play fast paced video games. The response time becomes a particular issue when temperatures drop. During the winter, my apartment is about 10 degrees cooler than the summer and before the TV warms up, the black to grey transitions are VERY slow. During COD BLOPS2 this causes significant blurring of the picture.

My unit came with what I assume is a defective back-light on the left side of the unit. An all white picture appears grey on the left 3" of the screen. Only noticeable with an all white picture.

Other Thoughts: Overall, this is a decent TV for watching television and movies. Sony's provided software comes with more options than other entry level TVs. Motion performance is not good, but I can't tell if that's standard for an entry level LCD, or if I'm just being too picky. My advice, if you're looking for a good TV for the average viewer, this will do nicely. If you want good performance for video games or sports, go with a higher end television. Look into something that has Motionflow (Sony's name for the technology) or something equivalent from another brand.

I will contact Sony about warranty service on the back-light and see what they have to say

4 out of 5 eggsA little short on features, but most TVs are that way now

Pros: The remote control is still simple and easy to use, the picture is bright and crisp, they still put physical buttons on the TV set (some brands now can only be used with the remote - foolish!). No problems in 3 months of ownership.

Cons: no headphone jack, no "traditional" triple-RCA-cable video/L/R input on the rear.

Other Thoughts: TV sets these days are really becoming stripped of features in an effort to save ten cents on the bottom line. Overall, this TV is appropriately excellent for the price (around five hundred). I would purchase it again.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Sony Service And Product

Pros: Nice picture

Cons: I purchased this tv through a retail store which offers 90 returns. The tv failed at 95 days. I contacted Sony and they 1st offered to come out and fix it. Then they  decided it was  not economical for them to fix (without even seeing the tv). Long sorry short, they called me back and  my only option in the end was for them  to send me an old refurbished tv with an extended 1 year warranty ( total of 2 years).  I would expect that if I buy a tv that costs more than other brands the same size and with less features, that customer service would be better. Now I am getting a refurbished tv, probably much older than mine, an it's getting shipped UPS where it will probably get banged around.  Now i can see why Sony is struggling in the TV market. Avoid Sony!!

Other Thoughts: Couldn't believe Sony would not try to work with the customer more

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent basic 1080P TV

Pros: Great 1080P TV, colors are sharp, image is crip, with digital HDTV antenna gets great local HD channels.

Cons: only 2 HDMI ports

Other Thoughts: It's a great choice for a low end 1080P tv, especially if you have other Sony products(laptop, blu-ray), powering up blu-ray device will also power up Sony TV, and change TV input to blu-ray, very clever and convenient.

2 out of 5 eggsQuick Shipment. Amazing.

Pros: The shipment arrived the next day. Which is the only Pro here. The price I paid for this unit was pretty good.

Cons: The packaging of the LCD TV arrived in damaged condition. Right where the box was torn, inside the plastic panel was broken.

Other Thoughts: This LCD was supposed to be my mother's day gift. Unfortunately, it arrived with a hole in the packaging box. Inside the back plastic panel of the LCD TV was broken. I refused the shipment and had it sent back. I called Newegg immediately , and the representative told me they can't sent me a replacement because this item is sold out. And it will take them 3 to 5 working business days to file a claim report for damage item before they can credit me back the full amount or send me another unit if they have any available. I prefer the latter, but it looks pretty grim.

5 out of 5 eggsUnderrated and Overlooked TV

Pros: This TV is by far one of the best LCDs at 40". I say this with direct comparisons to LG/Samsung(I'm talking about the one that's on newegg with the 5 egg rating which I have ALSO PURCHASED myself)/Vizio(junk). The only downside is that it has 2 HDMI ports but believe me when I tell you this TV is far superior in everything else. I have tested it with different inputs and have compared the picture quality in every usable way, even to gamers. This TV has a much better response vs any other TV with similar specifications. For me, a more consistent and clearer picture (not laggy, or pixelated, you can clearly see when you are watching ESPN or even food network) is FAR more important.

Cons: There's only 2 HDMI ports, but because the pros outweigh the con by such an insurmountable margin, this TV is 5 eggs. I am a perfectionist, so I wouldn't have rated this 5 eggs if it didn't pass all my testings and comparisons.

Other Thoughts: Get this little TV for your room if it's not too big, enjoy.

4 out of 5 eggsAbout what I expected

Pros: Excellent PQ, HD broadcast look great as well as blu-ray.
Easy setup, found all digital channels in my area quickly.
Sound is good I'd say average for sets this size.
Runs silent and is light weight easy to handle.
I stayed within budget and got a Sony.

Cons: Not many ports video or audio 2 HDMI 1 component 1 RGB 1 USB but I knew this going in. Audio out is a mini jack instead of RCA it does have optical out though.
Like other Sony's I've owned the remote is so so

Other Thoughts: A bare bones set no bells and whistles but if all you need is a basic TV with basic features this is not a bad set. I found a mini jack to RCA cable in my audio stuff and used it from the Sony to a Vizio sound bar and it works very well.
