5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Impressive picture quality, attractive styling and plenty of inputs. Not bloated with unnecessary buttons and whistles but is a solid performer and an excellent choice in this price point. Purchased on Sunday, arrived on Thursday and shipping was FREE!! Thanks Newegg!!

Cons: No complaints here, great TV.

5 out of 5 eggswow, very pleased

Pros: very sharp, excellent color, no flash backlighting that others unfortunately have had problems with. Bought this as replacement for my old dell 30 inch that died recently, and couldn't be happier.

Cons: no dvi input, running on vga input limits rez to 1360x768, but fortunately, I have a dvi to hdmi cable that allows full rez at 1920x1080.

Other Thoughts: I'm actually looking to buy another for my son's pc, lol.

3 out of 5 eggsQuality control issues?

Pros: Good picture, 120 Hz, LED backlit, very thin

Cons: Few HDMI ports, no digital coax (I know it's old, but stilli n use)

Other Thoughts: About 20 days after receiving the TV, one of the LED backlights quit working. This produced a dark spot on the left side of the TV. Luckily, it was within the 30 days. This was my first time with Toshiba. So I paid the $100 to ship it back to NewEgg and got a refund. I really did not want to deal with tech support and all the problems that go with that, I've heard horror stories. Nothing against Toshiba, I just would rather be able to return to a store, so I'll likely not order a TV again. Kudos to NewEgg though for the great return service. I've been buying from them since they started and this is the first item I ever had to return.

1 out of 5 eggsStay away...

Pros: Price was low at the time of purchase - $780 for a 50" LCD LED.

Sound is not bad.
Looks nice and thin.

Cons: First thing - LED is not a new technology. It's the same old LCD with a different backlight. There is Edge Lit Backlight and Local Dimming BackLight. This TV is Edge Lit.

I worried about flashlighting. A problem with most Edge Lit LED LCD TVs. I decided to only look at regular LCDs however the price on this LED LCD was good so i went for it.

Sadly - I'm looking to return this TV IMMEDIATELY! The issue is the Backlight Flashlighitng effect which is just HORRONDOUS. I should have sticked to my thoughts and bought a regular LCD TV.

You clearly see on dark scenes an almost halo around the edges of the screen. I've seen flashlighting effects that aren't this bad but this is the worse. I would never recommend this TV to anyone for any reason. I will take a picture and upload. It looks like this image...just a bit more.
This is a photo of flashlighting but not on my TV - just an image i found

It's the most annoying thing i've ever seen.

If you can't afford Local Dimming LED LCD tvs...stick to original LCD with CCFL backlighting. You won't regret it.

1 out of 5 eggsI got a defective one!!

Pros: So I've had this TV on my wall for just 24 hours, was delivered a couple of days ago. The clarity on this TV is fantastic, and the set itself is everything I want or need in a TV, 50 inches is a perfect size too. I do not want 3D, I will not be wearing sunglasses all the time. I didn't need built in internet, I have a 1080p ROKU (remote control apps on IOS and Android) which has a better interface (in my opinion), than all the "internet TVs" out there, wireless works just fine in a condo that has 10 electronic devices on the same wireless network.

I called Toshiba tech support, they told me they would send someone out in the next 24 hours and gave me a phone number and ref #, if they do not call to schedule an appointment. Will keep you posted on how goes. Tech support was helpful, once I gave serial number and explained the steps I went through for picture.

Also I have a small living room, and the sound on this TV is much better than most LEDs. Not amazing, but definitely loud enough.

Cons: FLASHLIGHTING!!! It's like someone is flashing a flashlight in all four corners of the screen and then some blotchy spots of white light close to center. If watching anything dark or whit a black screen, it feels like all teh action is taking place 'in the clouds'.... ANNOYING!

This was so upsetting, as I really want to love this TV. I hope tech support can fix this or have a working replacement. Again, the 1080p picture clarity looks amazing out of teh box, have to mess around with the settings so everything doesn't look like a soap opera... but that is an easy fix. However all of this means nothing when it looks someone has spotlights shining on your TV from all directions!

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic TV

Pros: Unbelievable clarity; picture seems to have depth even though this is not a 3D TV. Setup is a snap - this is the first TV I have owned that required zero adjustments (contrast, color, etc.) to obtain desired picture. Between the vivid and true colors, clarity, and depth of visual field, it literally makes it seem that you are looking through a window onto a live scene. This set out performs others costing significantly more.

Cons: The only con related with this TV is it makes all of my other sets look really crummy. After watching programs on this Toshiba, even the picture on my 32" LCD, whose picture I thought was top notch, pales by comparison.

5 out of 5 eggsToshiba?

Pros: nice picture
attractive screen/bezel
fits my wall space too small for 55" (not a lot of 50" LCD options with 55" prevalence)
energy efficient
excellent black levels for no local dimming (edge-lit)
tolerable sound for thin flat-panel
lightning-fast Newegg shipping

Cons: strange onboard controls (don't click when you touch them - quasi touchpad)
wife complains that it's too sharp, can see flaws in actors' skin
no fancy internet stuff or 3D of interest to *some* people

Other Thoughts: I haven't owned a Toshiba product since a portable cassette player in the 80s. Frankly, I was shopping for a Samsung, but very happy with this purchase. The NHL playoffs look great. On sports programs, I really notice the sharpness of 120hz over my old Sony 46" projection LCD. Perhaps it sets a low bar, but I'm generally sensitive to weird artifacts and picture quality. This one has yet to annoy me in any way. Mad Men looks phenomenal. 1080p movies seem clearer than when I watched them at the theater. I'm crossing my fingers that it's reliable, as this one should do the job for the next 5-10 years.
