3 out of 5 eggsFirst TV was Bad, Second TV was Better

Pros: This a good TV for the price. It is a slim TV and looks very modern. The 120HZ is what sold me. I don't care much for the apps. Its a nice bonus to have, but I use Apple TV. The TV also feels solid and the screen has a glossy finish.

Cons: The first TV I received had lots of dead pixels near the bottom of the screen. It surprised me that it was passed off as a refurbish unit. It was so noticeable that I had to return it. Newegg Customer Service was great. I would give them five stars They helped me out with the issue and in one week had another TV. The second TV had a perfect screen, but the TV stand was quite bent. I am eventually going to wall mount this TV so I will just deal with it.

The remote control doesn't seem to work as well as other TVs. You have to be close to the TV and aim it just right. It was a pain to input information in the setup.

Other Thoughts: Overall I give this TV 3 eggs because the company that refurbishes these units needs to do a better job. I know its a refurbished unit, but there needs to be a standard ( as a previous reviewer mentions).

4 out of 5 eggsNice TV

Pros: I bought this TV purely for the nice price of it. I did however hesitate due to the low star reviews on the TV. I decided to write this due to the fact that I have had no real issues with the TV. It came in quick, looks great, and works extremely well. I have decided that I have made the best choice for my money on this TV.

Cons: The only real issue that I have with this TV is the lack of apps. I have other family members with other smart TVs of different brands that have a larger diversity of apps. The TV works great but this constitutes a loss of a star in my opinion.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Picture quality is great, I've always liked Vizio TV's and this one is no exception. It's amazingly thin also, and doesn't take up a lot of space. Some other reviews say the sound quality isn't great on this model but I think it works fine, movies get plenty loud for my living room. I'd be perfectly happy with my new TV if it wasn't for one problem.....

Cons: I know it's a refurb but on initially powering on the TV I noticed 6 dark spots on the left center of the screen. They are very noticable on light colored scenes. Completely ruins the TV for me. For being a refurnb I can't imagine why someone wouldn't have seen this before passing it off as sellable. I guess I got burned. Thanks Newegg.

2 out of 5 eggsVizio M471i-A2 Smart TV - Expensive "Dumb" HDTV

Pros: - Slim Design
- Refurbished Unit was 15% less expensive than purchasing new.
- Free Shipping.
- VERY FAST Shipping!
- Sturdy Stand.
- Picture Quality is Good but not Outstanding.
- TV App Channel interface works OK.

I wanted a Smart TV with Wireless, an Ethernet port, and USB ports that I could connect to my network for playing recorded media, TV signals on my network, and accessing files on NAS, without the use of a Computer Interface. The Samsung 5000 and 6000 series Smart TV's do that. I read all the reviews I could find on this Vizio M471i-A2 and went to the mfg website. The reviews led me to believe that the Vizio M471i-A2 was as good as, and in some cases, better than the equivalent Samsung Smart TV.

My experience shows that the Vizio M471i-A2 is Inferior to the Samsung Smart TV in almost every way.

Cons: - Wireless is 2.4GHz Only. Samsung 6300 series has Dual Band Capability (2.4GHz & 5GHz). This is not stated anywhere in the Vizio literature.
- Only one USB Port. Samsung 6300 series has 3X USB Ports.
- USB Port will only interface with a FAT32 formatted Flash Drive. This limits file size to 2GB so any movie you have must be 2GB or less file size - Good Luck with That!
- USB Interface will not accept MP4 or M4V movie formats. It will only take MP3 format or JPG. Good for Music and some Photos, Bad for Media like HD Movies. (Why buy a "Smart" HDTV if you don't want to watch HD Movies?) The Samsung 6000 series Will accept Flash Drives formatted for NTSF and MP4 files.
- USB Interface will NOT Accept a Wireless Keyboard. This means that you are stuck with the remote to interface the TV. This is a Pain when entering passwords, email addresses, or searching. The Samsung 6000 series Smart TVs Will accept a wireless keyboard interface through the USB Port.
- The wireless on the Vizio will only connect to the internet. It will NOT allow you log on to your network! You CANNOT Access your Network by Wireless! This means you cannot stream media or video from your media server or HTPC directly to the Vizio M471i-A2. The Samsung 6000 Series Smart TV DOES allow you to do this.
- The Ethernet Connection on the Vizio M471i-A2 will Only Connect to the internet for internet apps. It will NOT connect to your home network. The Samsung 6000 series Smart TVs DO allow connection to your home network through ethernet.
- Connection to a wireless sound bar is only through a hardwire connection like COMM, or Fiber. Vizio makes an excellent wireless sound bar system with wireless bluetooth subwoofer and remote speakers but the M471i-A2 has to connect by hard wire connection. This is STUPID!

Other Thoughts: The fact that the Vizio M471i-A2 has such poor documentation that I could not find out the poor feature set of this brand is what really irritates me. No of the reviews I read made any mention of the the lack of network access.

Do NOT Buy this Vizio M series "smart" HDTV if you want to interface it with your network and not use a hardwired HDMI connection from a PC. Buy a Samsung 6000 Series Smart HDTV for that. I have not closely examined LG or other brands of "Smart" TVs to tell if they work.

I could just as well have purchased a "Dumb" HDTV for $100's less money and connected through a Roku box using PLEX to connect to my network either by wireless or ethernet connection. The Roku has More Internet TV Apps than this Vizio also.

In conclusion, this Vizio M471i-A2 is really not any better than a "Dumb" TV. I gave this 2 eggs because Newegg shipped this lightning fast and the HDTV picture quality is OK (Not Great).

BTW - You may ask why I just didn't return this TV since it does not meet any of my needs. This is a refurbished unit sold with a NO REFUND, EXCHANGE ONLY policy. Since the TV does function, I cannot return it. I am stuck with an Expensive "Dumb" TV.

5 out of 5 eggsLooks Great

Pros: Newegg did a great job on the refurb. I received the TV today, package was great and not beat up. Upon opening the box, everything looked great minus the stand (had a few scratches. Remote looked brand new and so far everything looks and runs great.

Cons: Stand had a few scratches.
