3 out of 5 eggsOK TV

Pros: Great Price and nice Picture.

Cons: Terrible Sound. Get a sound bar. Also, there is an annoying banner on the top of the screen that goes on and off intermittently. Its really annoying. If i cant get rid of it i am returning the TV. Does any one know how to get rid of it? Customer service is useless. I left 3 messages on a voice mail so far.

3 out of 5 eggs40" Changhong

Pros: Price was great, performs basic functions w/out problem. Great volume

Cons: Description says max resolution 1920 X 1080 but grainy / dull pastel colors, best resolution I can obtain without the grainy pixels is 1680 X 1050.

Other Thoughts: Over all its an ok item that will not break the wallet.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Value

Pros: Incredible Price for 40" 1080 TV.
Great for second set
Simple, easy menu structure

Cons: Not supported by Harmony Remote yet

Other Thoughts: Mine was delivered quickly, no dead pixels, very simple and easy to use. I agree with others the stand is flimsy but I wall mounted with no issues. My installer told me mine was the third Changhong he did locally. Its not a Samsung but the value is huge ! Bought a refurb Vizio soundbar and now sound is perfect. Supports optical and coax audio, a surprise at this price. I bought Square Trade 3 year warranty so my total cost was only $250 for everything. A steal.

4 out of 5 eggsAlmost gets five eggs

Pros: - price ($230 with 3 yr SQ warranty) and fast shipping
- great contrast and colors
- no banding and passed my gradient tests
- most importantly, no clouding or backlight bleed

Cons: - the stand and stabilizer feet, see below
- picture quality is not as good as some others I've seen in b&m stores but
those are twice the price or more
- two dead pixels that I probably would never have seen if I hadn't run a dead
pixel test

Other Thoughts: The glass stand has some light streaks of discoloration and the screws are difficult to screw into the tv. Even tightened at the way, the stand is still a little loose. One of the stabilizer feet won't screw in, the screw never grips and just turns and turns.

Picture quality is pretty good but isn't spectacular and won't blow you away like some more expensive tv's. I've literally stood inches away from some sets at b&m stores and was blown away by clarity, sharpness, color saturation, smooth motion, you name it. This is not that but it's certainly average to above average. This Changhong is not washed out or grainy like some cheap (but still more expensive than this) tv's. Picture seems a tad soft to me at times but I think that's just what the OTA signal is pushing to my antenna. Other times the picture looks sharp. So it's a content issue not tv issue.

Good sized and priced tv for a bedroom, guest room or on a patio. I would want something better/bigger for use as my main living room tv.

In all, I can accept the flaws of the stand and dead pixels at this price point. Great value overall.

5 out of 5 eggsTo clear up 120 hz as Computer

Pros: I DO NOT OWN THIS T.V. I am writing this to clear up facts that people give bad ratings for lack of understanding of technology.

There is no such thing as a 120hz Broadcast, so this and any other 120hz T.V. are 60hz but use a separate processing unit to double the refresh rate for motion scenes. Even Blue-Ray is 60hz, there is no way to change this.

When buying a 120hz T.V. to use as a Computer Monitor, you are actually causing stutter in gaming because of the time the T.V.'s Processor takes to Double the 60hz to 120hz. "IMPORTANT": TO AVOID THIS, BE SURE THE T.V. HAS A GAMING MODE OR A P.C. IN THAT WILL BYPASS THE T.V.'S OWN PROCESSOR. This will in-effect make the T.V. output the signal in its original 60hz.

The Only ways to Date to get 120hz refresh on a T.V. as a Monitor is by using the latest HDMI 1.4b Input and the proper High through put HDMI cable on a 4K resolution T.V. subsequently you can also use the newer mini display ports and display ports. But the only Native 120hz T.V. is a 4K T.V. set.

Cons: None as I do not own this T.V.

Other Thoughts: I hope this helps clear up the 60hz-120hz issue for people that read this. Just think, it gets even MORE complicated with 3D T.V.'s

Passive 3D T.V.'s use a screen both on the T.V. and in the glasses you use to split the 60hz (Remember there is no true 120hz) and give depth for 3D effect. So this in effect reduces the Horizontal Frame, so a 1920x1080 (1080p) actually becomes a 1920x540 in your brain. This can be overcome with the promise of 4K T.V.'s as they are Native 120HZ but will still require a 120hz signal to get to the T.V. meaning HDMI 1.4b on both the Video card and T.V. or Display port. So far, I haven't seen a feasible realistic implementation without being Daddy or Mommy Rich Bucks yet. The Greatest benefit with Passive 3D is the glasses are the same as the Movie theater and cheap. So people with Kids, or love to have people over or even don't want to deal with the psychological effects that may occure with Active 3D this is the way to go.

Active 3D uses an IR emitter (Infra-red) and rather expensive glasses $70-$150 (Controlled by the IR emitter) that are larger than passive and have to be recharged (So no Movie theater glasses are gonna work with it). The trick with Active is the glasses act like shutters. That's right, very constant shutting of the lenses from Left to Right to achieve the 3D effect. This is Null and Void of the 60hz problem as the Technology is with the glasses and not splitting the actual signal. However, 1 of 10 people report Headaches after use and basic Psychology explains the dangers of Seizures with Rapid strobe lighting effects. But this is a more in-depth 3D experience, if you want to pay for all the hardware, glasses, and possible Eye Issues like Steve Martin in the Movie The Jerk :).

1 out of 5 eggsNot such good experience

Pros: Decent aesthetics. Although my preference is matt black the gloss on this narrow bezzeled unit looks nice. Lightweight.

Cons: Unfortunately for me Cons outweighed the Pros. The first unit I received worked for about 10 minutes before it simply shut off and would not power up again. Second time around the RMA replacement TV did stay on but had a bold 2" wide vertical stripe in the display about 1/3 the way in from the right. After that I called it quits and asked for a refund.

Other Thoughts: Purchase was made through Newegg's "outlet".

Newegg once again made me a satisfied customer with their efficient and simple RMA policy and procedures. Thankfully I have found I rarely require this side of service.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat tv for the price i paid

Pros: Great tv

Cons: Dead pixel on arrival, but at 300 bucks i didn't want to go through the whole RMA process.

Other Thoughts: Speakers aren't that great, but it's meant to have speaker plugged to it.

5 out of 5 eggsPleased with this

Pros: Picture is very good, remote easy to use, menus are good.

Cons: Nothing bad to say, I'm fairly impressed

Other Thoughts: Obviously with a name like ChangHong I was apprehensive to buy this but they had a sale that was too good to pass up, I got it for the best price EVER on any 40" 1080p TV. I'm pleased with the quality, I've been using it a lot for 3 weeks to test it, haven't seen any issues. The colors are very good and rich. I've been trying to find a con but have none, just a minor quirk with one of the screw holes on the stabilizer stands at the end, it wasn't threaded very good. Buy hey, who even puts stabilizer supports at the ends on a TV? Noone. The stand is heavy duty, all other TV's I've seen have cheap plastic flimsy stands and you always wonder it it's gonna break right off under the TV weight. Not this one, it's heavy plate glass!

1 out of 5 eggs3 defective TVs

Pros: Clear 1080p picture, vivid colors. Good HDMI & DTV tuner connections.

Cons: Dead pixels discovered on all 3 sets, component inputs (red, green, & blue video cables) completely defective on 2 of the 3 sets delivered to me (never got a chance to test the component inputs on the 1st one though, so it may have had the same problem)

Other Thoughts: The picture quality was very good with the HDMI inputs & DTV tuner. The sound was decent, but not great. My first TV had a defective circle of excessively bright pixels on the lower-right corner of the screen, so it was sent back for an exchange. The second TV sent to me had a couple dead pixels, but the component cables leading from my cable box produced a totally distorted, split, & scrambled picture (those same cables gave a very good & clear picture on my Vizio). The third replacement TV sent to me had exactly the same component input problem as the second TV, but had many more dead pixels. I gave this TV brand three chances to give me a decent quality TV and they ended up completely failing all 3 times. Changhong's quality control is severely lacking if I get sent 3 defective TVs in a row (Feb 2014 build dates labeled on back of each TV, so probably from the same batch). I highly recommend everyone test their component cable inputs on this TV, as I know I'm not the only one to suffer from this defect. After this very negative experience I'll be staying far away from this TV brand.

5 out of 5 eggs40" Changhong

Pros: picture is great even in sports and action scenes.

Cons: actually not really big ones:
remote control quality could be better, it feels very small in hand, also, menus are really in basic level.

Other Thoughts: I think they should find a "user-friend" brand name for their products instead of such strange name, if they really want to sell much more in US market.
Anyway, for $229 and 2-day shipping it really worth it.
