5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine

Pros: Our family of 4 recently outgrew our Sharp 5 Cup rice cooker we brought home from Japan. This is a great unit for for families of 4 or more or for larger scale entertaining. Extremely versatile. We've made sushi rice, jasmine rice, and oatmeal with great results.

Cons: A little large for making smaller batches of rice.

Other Thoughts: Having lived in Japan for three years, we have become "rice snobs." This cooker is the ideal unit for all of us afficianados out there! And Newegg is about 100 bucks cheaper than other places for this cooker.

2 out of 5 eggsgood rice but not very smart

Pros: cute logo

does a good job cooking rice. I used it with brown rice and basmati rice so far, it took some experimenting to figure out how much water to use, but knowing that now, the rice is easy to cook and is great. It's nice to be able to cook brown rice.

one con I didn't have room for below is that the manual states that this cooker does not adapt to changes in input voltage. That is to say, depending on where you are, your voltage can vary from 110 to 115 to 120 volts... I suppose if the utility is in a pinch, you could have a brownout of a few volts as well, dropping you from 120 to 115 or something... certainly if a high wattage appliance on the same circuit as your rice cooker kicks in, it will drop the voltage on the local circuit. well the manual states that this will affect how the rice cooks! Come on! This isn't a $30 rice cooker with no computer! This thing is supposed to be 'smart'. This doesn't sound too smart if you ask me

Cons: planned obsolescence: This rice cooker will apparently stop working once the internal battery dies, and guess what... you can't replace the internal battery yourself unless you're MacGuyver.

high altitude cooking not supported: The manual asks that you please avoid using this rice cooker at high altitudes. I think in this day and age, it's not too much to expect the people who make our electronics to be smarter and more sophisticated than this.

The timer doesn't display until the last few minutes of cooking. Wondering how many minutes are left until your rice is done? Feel free to keep wondering...

The manual is pretty vague and not really useful for knowing what ratio of water to rice to use for any of the different varieties of rice.

It seems like it gives you a lot of control over the supposedly sophisticated computer controller, but in fact, it's pretty much impossible to understand precisely or generally how any of the inputs actually affect the cooking process.

Other Thoughts: From what I can tell this rice cooker must be designed in Japan with the Japanese market in mind. I think that my expectations as an American consumer may be different. Maybe I'm too demanding, wanting to have access to specific information immediately, such as how much longer it will be until my rice is done, how many minutes (not just hours) the keep warm cycle has been running, and how the inputs affect the operation (such as temperature changes, etc) of the unit. Don't just tell me this cooker is smart and expect me to believe it - explain to me how it works!

It certainly doesn't help that the manual was obviously not translated by someone who is fluent in English. Sono manual wa zenzen warakimasen.

It's unfortunate that the manual is not available to download in a searchable format. Instead all you get is images of the pages. This isn't a huge deal since it's a relatively short manual, but it's just one more nail in the coffin of an enjoyable/productive user experie

5 out of 5 eggsA True Believer!

Pros: Super easy to clean, simple to use and makes perfect rice with no mess. I was previously a staunch "$20 rice cooker" person, but after using the Neuro Fuzzy, and more specifically CLEANING it, I could never go back.

Cons: Higher cost of entry would be the only thing, but if I count the hours soaking and scrubbing a cake of rice at the bottom of a cheap rice cooker, or scrubbing glutinous goo off of our ceramic cooktop, I probably still come out on top.

Other Thoughts: The reviews are right about this baby, and NewEgg was the best price I found anywhere. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat

Pros: We have the Japanese domestic version of this -- NH-L18. As far as I can tell it is exactly the same cooker -- specs are the same as is the physical look, buttons, layout, everything. The only difference is that ours has all the buttons and stuff written in Japanese, which is not a problem since the wife is from Japan. The thing just keeps on working. We have had it about 6.5 years and it makes the best tasting rice I have ever tasted. Very versatile machine and much better than the one button cheapo cooker I had before I got married. I especially like the keep-warm function which does not dry out your rice even after being on for hours.

Cons: Nothing that I can think of. Just don't lose the plastic cups that come with it as it is geared and labeled for those cups (based on reviews of the US model NS-ZCC18 I have read elsewhere this is true of both this model and my Japanese domestic model)

5 out of 5 eggsOur First Rice Cooker

Pros: Easy to use, good capacity for an average family that eats rice daily, consistent results, keeps rice warm and good quality for hours.

Cons: A bit large on the counter compared to other kitchen appliances, instructions are thorough but can be initially confusing there's so much info.

Other Thoughts: My family has never been a big fan of brown rice, regardless of its' health benefits. The Zoji has changed that forever...brown rice has never tasted so good and been so digestible, and is now our primary rice variety.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Elephant Rules !

Pros: Knows how to cook brown rice. Doesn't spit. inner lid easy to clean. Great customer service. start up and finish jingles are cute.

Cons: Takes a little longer to cook than older style cooker but end result is more predictable.

Other Thoughts: Had older generation Zojirushi that was fine except it tended to boiled over and brown rice residue got embedded inside the lid (didn't have separate inner lid like new models). Customer service person in California recommended this model and I am so happy.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Rice Maker

Pros: The machine makes excellent rice. I owned the 5 cup identical model and have been very happy with it! We actually use it to make oatmeal most mornings during the weekend too!

Cons: First one received, the machine functioned fine but the timer button was non-functional. Thanks to Newegg we had a replacement without any issues.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Cooker can save you $

Pros: Imagine any kind of rice, now imagine the perfect cooker. This is what you have here. You can cook rice in styles you never knew existed! Rice porridge comes out PERFECT and sushi rice is great! You can have the rice soft or al dente at the touch of a button. It's just set and forget until your food is ready. It will keep your rice warm for literally A DAY in keep warm mode. Spit out" is minimized by unique steam release system and coatings make it easy to clean so long as you do so fairly soon after use. Quality is EXCELLENT. Get this model or one of the models emblazoned with "Made in Japan" on the front as the others have had reports of lesser quality.

Cons: You need to leave it plugged in or the battery for the timer will drain sooner and is not user replaceable. Works much better when you cook a full pot of rice. There is some spitting if you have a emptier pot. Rice cooks better if washed before.

Other Thoughts: Retractable cord is a neat feature. Has a nifty little carrying handle too. You can make your rice and at the last minute take it outside or on a picnic. I love this little thing!!! You'll end up eating up so much more rice, it will save you money in meats and cheeses as you experiment with new rice styles and flavours.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Makes perfect rice. The timer works great. The keep warm automatically comes on when the rice is done and keeps the temp perfect for eating or freezing leftovers for many hours. The size is very generous. Extremely easy to clean and maintain. The retractable cord and rice paddle holder are nice touches.

Cons: None so far. The battery in this has to be replaced every four years or so and it wont function without the battery. This may be a con, we will see in four years.

Other Thoughts: Expensive but completely worth it if you consider all the things you can cook in this. With a rice cooker recipe book and a few ingredients and practice, this could be an everyday every meal appliance. After researching and putting buying this off for nearly a year I bit the bullet and was about to purchase when 12am struck and neweggs daily deals came into effect, dropping the price 40$ and adding free shipping! I bought it and it was delivered a few days later! Newegg is the best as usual.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Rice Cooker

Pros: Cooks all varieties of rice perfectly, and many other foods as well. Built-in programmable timer makes it easy to have the food finish cooking exactly when you want it. Will keep foods warm and ready to serve for hours after cooking is finished.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It's a shame the more reasonably-priced Zojirushi models don't have the same reliability that the Made in Japan models (like this one) have. It's pricy, but it's worth it.
