5 out of 5 eggsWe like this quite a bit

Pros: Freshly grinds coffee so you get the best possible drip coffee. It does require a tiny bit of extra time to clean after you put it back together than a traditional drip coffee maker. I clean the basket and basket top into the sink after we're done, put the basket but not the basket top back and take off the coffee hopper and clean the chute into the basket. Then put the basket top back on and the coffee hopper back on. I haven't timed this but I would guess it takes about a minute. If you don't keep the chute clean it can clog up and give you weak coffee. Some complain the grind is coarse and requires a lot of coffee per cup, but I haven't noticed any big deal there.

Cons: A few times the coffee maker has not opened the chute during grinding and the coffee doesn't make it into the basket. You can tell when this happens because the grinder slows down near the end of the grinding process. What I do then is to turn it off, take off the hopper and basket, clean, and replace. This has happened three times in the last year and I'm not exactly sure why. Now, I listen to the grinding and if I hear it is not grinding properly, I turn it off, clean the chute into the basket and reinstall. It appears that on the top of the basket top there is a doohickey that needs to engage the lever to open the chute and this doesn't always happen.

Other Thoughts: A few finicky operational issues aside, we like this coffee maker and I would buy another if this one died.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: I bought this at a retailer. I had intended to buy a lesser product but found this in the box instead. Called manufacturer who said to keep it and sent missing carafe lid. It has operated perfectly. Makes wonderful coffee - I like mine strong and it has a "strong" setting which is to my taste. Timer allows for hot coffee in the morning as soon as we are out of bed. Stainless Steel Thermal carafe keeps the coffee warm longer than other thermal carafes I have used.

Cons: The grinder is loud, though not louder than other grinders I have used.

Other Thoughts: Per directions, I clean the hopper shoot regularly and have ever experienced any problem with it clogging. I think this may also be why one complained of weak coffee. I would have been satisfied with the lesser product I had intended to purchase (model 650 which also grinds) since we use it at my office. But the 650 requires more daily cleaning and this one is much easier to care for.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed and way overpriced

Pros: Not much is very good about this unit.

Cons: Shoot gets clogged, very loud grinder, messy pour from carafe.
The top to the carafe is pain.
The coffee basket has a rube goldberg contraption that you have to set right or your in trouble.
I always have to wipe up the spills from this unit.
The brew strength is limited to 3 settings where the Saeco had an adjustable grinder with 10 grind sizes.
I paid less than half for the Saeco compared to this Cuisinart and was far superior.

Other Thoughts: After owning a Saeco grind and brew that I bought here I am highly disappointed in this overpriced beast. Cuisinart needs to go back to drawing board and refine this unit. It is amazingly similar to the Saeco which doesn't seem to be available anymore. I wonder if Cuisinart bought them out. Unfortunately Cuisanart's changes are awful.
Save your money buy something else. I can't wait to replace this thing.

1 out of 5 eggsGenerally weak coffee - broke after 6 months

Pros: Nice carafe

Cons: Noisy,weak coffee,constant cleaning

Other Thoughts: Got this in September 2011 and it's broken in March 2012. Can't get a decent cup of coffee without double-grinding. We were not using cheap beans and we tried many different brands and blends. If you are a Tim H's lover, you may be happy. But if you like a stronger cup of coffee like Timothy's/Starbucks you may be frustrated. We had to double-grind and under-fill the reservoir every time to get a decent brew (8 cups on the gauge, grind for 2 and then grind again for 12). Defeats the purpose of a grind and brew. Plus, the grind chute had to be cleaned all the time. It stopped working after about 6 months - and we were pretty happy to see it die. We had a K***s before, and it was far better. We'll get this fixed under warranty and sell it and likely get the K***s again. Pretty noisy, too - but it doubles as an alarm clock! As another reviewer said it's also tough to get the last cup of coffee out of the carafe without removing the lid.

5 out of 5 eggsSimply awesome

Pros: Simple to use, permanent filter but can use paper filters, embedded water filter, programmable and above all makes an awesome cup of joe.

Cons: None, really.

Other Thoughts: Seriously, buy it. Now. For the love of real, great tasting coffee.

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely flawed & frustrating

Pros: Good tasting coffee, thermal carafe keeps coffee warm enough for hours without it become bitter from heating

Cons: This coffee maker is flawed in so many ways. The grinder stopped working after a week or two. You really wouldn't want to set it to autogrind in the morning anyhow since it's extremely loud. If you live with others they will not appreciate hearing it go off in the morning.

Filling the reservoir from the carafe is almost guaranteed to get you counter top wet if you do it without the lid on. With the lid, you'll be pouring for minutes, literally.

As mentioned already in other reviews, very difficult to get the last cup or two out without unscrewing the lid. You nearly have to invert the carafe, at which point coffee starts coming out of vent.

You most certainly should pass on this coffee maker. Nothing but frustration.

5 out of 5 eggsLove this...

Pros: Best home brewed coffee I've ever had. Thermos carafe keeps coffee hot for awhile. Versatile; can used grounds or beans.

Cons: Pouring the last cup can be difficult due to the pouring system.

4 out of 5 eggsit works

Pros: adjust strength, dont have to put beans in or clean it ever day, consistant grind

Cons: thermal carraff is a poor design almost impossable to poor all the coffiee out. will use all the water in the resivor nomatter waht the setting.

Other Thoughts: I did not buy this from newegg. My old Cuisinart grind an brew died and I needed a new one fast. I upgraded to the 900bc and glad I did. The old one (non bur grinder) had to be cleaned every day. And it took me weeks to get the amount of beans right, but it worked for 7 years. The new one, once I figured out (it took only 3 tries) the proper strength and water setting, I can run for 5 days without having to clean out all I do is put in the exact amount of water I need and off it goes. However I found that I had to use the old glass carafe because the thermal one is such a poor design. I would have bought the standard non thermal if the store I got it from had had it. My recommendation is save your money and get that non thermal carafe and you will be happier.

1 out of 5 eggsworse than you can imagine

Pros: concept.

Cons: You have to take it apart and clean the coffee chute EVERY DAY or it will clog. Its a major pain. You cannot make 12 cups of strong coffee w/o running the grind cycle twice. You will not like it! Really! It will make you scream! The thermal carrafe shape makes it necessary to almost completely invert the carafe to get the last few cups out. This results in coffee coming out the vent and causing burns/stains/temper tantrums.

Other Thoughts: If you choose to buy it, remember I told you so.
Everone at cuisinart should be made to own one.
It really deserves a no star rating.

5 out of 5 eggsWOW

Pros: Fast
Easy to use
Makes a VERY good cup of brew with the right beans
Keeps coffee hot for hours

Cons: None really
Maybe the fact that when you need to clean the grinding out it can be a pain but that is rare.
