These two latches are way under-engineered. Extremely flimsey. They both broke within first 4 popping sessions. I called "conair" for a replacement, and they sent another popping plate with the same under-engineered latches. These broke the first time we used it... These latches, for the most part are needed, so that the popping plate does not walk off of the motorized base. You can physically hold these two units together with gloved hands, but thats dumb, and you can get burnt with very hot splattering oil spewing out the top of the vented cover bowl. I highly don't recommend this popper, mostly because of this frustration, plus newegg has a no return policy on this item. Therefore your only choice is dealing with "conair", and guess what! they won't return your money, only replace with more of the same defective parts... What a system.....
