5 out of 5 eggsGreat Set

Pros: This is a great set, I have owned this set since Oct. of 2010 and I do a lot of cooking which entails a lot of prep work. The knifes have a full tang blade and despite what other reviewers say I have had zero problems keeping an edge, if they knew how to properly use the knifes they would know that you use the honing iron before every use! Obviously you don't put knifes in the dishwasher, and you dry them after hand washing if you care about your knifes. I love this set and I even went as far as to purchase another set for my mother.

Cons: They weren't free.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure why someone that doesn't own the set would come on here blasting this one saying go buy the super high dollar knifes. Unless you are a professional chef you don't need anything more than this, just take proper care of them and you will be more than happy.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Excellent cooking knives, very sharp, lots of knives, attractive wood block

Cons: Steak knives are of lower quality than the cooking knives. Must wash and dry quickly after use

Other Thoughts: Bought this happily for $60 delivered as an alternative to a $300 set we liked. My wife is a great cook and she loves this set. Many knives to choose from. Thought the steak knives are not serrated and of lower quality than the others, they are sharp and work very well. Larger knives have a great feel.
Look great and work great and feel like they are higher dollar product. For the price paid and ease of use we are very happy.

2 out of 5 eggsObvious Factory Seconds

Pros: Lots of knives at a very low price, thats it.

Cons: These are obviously factory seconds, also my set appeared to have been an open box set.
1. Few of the knives are straight, 90% are slightly bent to the left straight out of the box
2. At least 10% of the knives/pieces have some kind of residue left on them from the factory that does not wipe off. Safe to eat with? Could be a left over solvent/metal sharpening fluid from the factory... So probably not.
3. The biggest knife in the set has a notch in the middle of the blade as well as metal scratches near the handle.
4. At least 50% of all the pieces have imperfections in the metal or plastic. Minor, but not what I would expect right out of the box.
5. The wood storage block had a very noticeable knick and discoloration in it right on the face. Could be shipping but probably from the factory..

Other Thoughts: Going to return these... I'm almost never a complainer, but there were only a few of the steak knives that passed a quick visual inspection. Every other piece had some noticeable flaw in workmanship... Going to return... Especially based on the other comments. The reason I gave these a 2 star rating is because the price is so low.

2 out of 5 eggsPretty Cummy Product- Rusting in Dishwasher

Pros: A lot of different knives @ a decent Price @ $60 on sale. Sharp out of the box. Holder looks nice and has a couple of extra slots for other [real] knives

Cons: These are the crappiest "stainless steel" knives I have ever seen. If even a smige of water remains on them in the diswasher they rust-with the steak knives being the worst. Thye don't hold an edge very long even with wood or plastic cutting boards. Always thought Cuisinart was a top of the line product maker, but this item makes me question that rep!

Other Thoughts: Glad I had kept my 10 year old Henckels that still are rustless and just require longer sharpening times

4 out of 5 eggsGood Knives

Pros: The block is very heavy and high quality. All of the knives, aside from the steak knives, feel heavy duty and have nice handles. They are sharp and feel high quality. It is a large set of knives at a good price.

Cons: About the only con I have with this set so far is what seems to be a point everyone points out: the steak knives feel extremely light and poor quality. They have nice handles but are very thin and flimsy. They are, however, very sharp and work perfectly fine for cutting steak/meat.

Other Thoughts: This is a set to buy for the other knives it comes with. I think it's the initial time you pick up a steak knives and see how light and easy to bend they are they turn you off of this set. After you try them out they work perfectly fine. Overall I really like this set and would recommend it to anyone who isn't going to obsess over the steak knives.

4 out of 5 eggsBuy for the larger knives...

Pros: Very nice luxury look when sitting on the counter. The larger knives in the set, are really, very nice for the money spent. They feel nice in the hand and have good weight to them. The slice and dice like a set that is far more $$$, (so far).

Cons: The steak knives look great in the block, but once you take them out. You soon see where the cost cutting took place to get the set down to the price range it is in. I admit these are very sharp and cut steak perfectly. That said, they are far too flimsy for the look this set goes for. They are stamped non-serrated blades. And unlike the rest of the set, they are not full tangs. The steak knife blades resemble dollar store knives, but with slightly better handles.

Other Thoughts: I gave this set a high egg rating for the intitial quality of the set I received. Steak knives cost it 1 egg, but most people probably don't buy sets like these just for steak knives. Since other reviewers may have had higher expectations or really did get a bad set. I will let you decide what to make of their opinions. I am happy so far for the minimal money I paid. I enjoy cooking meals and before I sent this post in, I cleaned, used and re-cleaned the set so I could have some actual use to comment about. They are better than the set I paid more money for that they are replacing. You may have the cash or want the prestige of the German names or the ultra high end Japanese sets.
BUT, if you are like me and just want a great looking set of knives that are really good for cutting up food. And not so exspensive that you can only afford 1 knife at a time, This is the set for you.

4 out of 5 eggsGood deal for the sale price

Pros: I bought these to replace an inexpensive Chicago Cutlery set that had stamped knives. These seem to be forged and are a lot heavier for the same price I paid for the Chicago set. I've not had any of the issues the other reviewers had. They hold an edge much longer than the Chicago set. I bought the Chicago set because of it's good ratings in the leading Consumer Ratings magazine. From the shopping I've done I believe you'd have to spend 3 times as much as Newegg's price to get a better knife set. And this one came with almost twice the number of knives the Chicago set came with.

Cons: For the price, none!

Other Thoughts: If you want a nice & complete set of kitchen knives and toolds for a rock bottom price, this is it.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Well made, solid sturdy knife set. Great Cherry Block and when you can catch them on special (I bought these as a "Shell Shocker" deal in October), can't be beat for the price.

Cons: Discovered the knives are a bit too sharp for a clutz like me in the kitchen... maybe keep a bottle of liquid band-aid on hand for incidental kitchen mishaps.
