This review is from: Cuisinart TOB-60N Stainless Steel Toaster Oven Broiler with Convection
Pros: Very nice looking, matches well with our Maytag stainless appliance. It looks like a miniature baker's oven.
Heats up quickly, cooks very well. Warms, bakes, toasts, broils and convection bakes.
Convection feature does speed cooking.
Easy to use, versatile for several cooking needs.
Allows us to avoid using the large oven just for smaller baking/cooking needs.
Surprisingly spacious interior, holds more than we thought it could.
Seems to keep an even, consistent temperature.
Comes with a broiler pan and rack.
Cons: Convection doesn't speed cooking as much as anticipated, but it does help.
No preheat signal or indicator.
Exterior gets pretty warm, although not dangerously hot even after extended use.
When toasting, the slices in the rear usually brown quicker than those closer to the front. It helps to rotate the slices about halfway through toasting.
No built-in cooking timer, only an "old-fashioned" mechanical timer for the toaster function. A digital timer for both toasting and baking/cooking would be a really good addition to this unit.
Toasting timer knob doubles as the cooking/baking power knob, and it's somewhat difficult to rotate counter-clockwise into the "on" position.
Other Thoughts: We've used this many times in the month-and-a-half since we received it, and we now wish we had purchased one years ago.
Like many appliances there was a bit of a learning curve to discern the best settings and times to cook certain foods, but overall it's been very easy and intuitive. We haven't created any inedible "mistakes" yet, so we've done pretty well integrating this oven into our food prep.
Some others have raised concerns about the exterior of this unit getting too warm, but it's an oven! It doesn't get any hotter than our toaster does if we use it several times in a row, so I think such concerns are unfounded. You have to use discernment around all appliances, especially those that get hot enough to cook food. You wouldn't grab a skillet by the sides while frying bacon, nor should you grab this oven and try to move it while you're baking a pan of brownies (which is does quite well, by the way.) This also isn't an Easy-Bake, so children should not use it while unattended. As always, a little common sense goes a long way. In our kitchen, this oven sits 6" to 8" from a woven-wood basket which has yet to burst into flames after using the oven for over an hour, so it certainly doesn't seem very hazardous to us.
