1 out of 5 eggsSharp has no service dept

Pros: It does cool a small room

Cons: The unit makes a scratching noise anytime that it has to work in humid
conditions and the temperature is above 100 degrees. I contacted Sharp immediately after purchase and was given a bogus Sharp repair center address, and eventually was given an address to take it. They had it for two months before I faxed them to ask what was going on, and they said they could not hear the noise. I had recorded the noise during the time it was installed in the bedroom, and gave them an audio cd, knowing that in the winter they would not be able to reproduce the noise. I suggested there are similar complaints online and in consumer reports, and they need to ask Sharp engineers what the deal is. Well, they have had the unit now for three months and I am without what I paid for. Don't rely on Sharp to fix anything that doesn't work right.

1 out of 5 eggsNo wonder discontinued

Pros: It does throw cool air, however...

Cons: Does not drain water. The water will inevitably pool in the back and when the fan hits it you get the "scratching" noise. This unit should be recalled for this design "flaw". No wonder it's listed as discontinued now.

1 out of 5 eggsDo Not Buy

Pros: It arrived quickly.

Cons: It makes alot of noise, and the water does not exit the unit properly. You are stuck to return it. Bad choice.

5 out of 5 eggsProblem fixed

Pros: At this time the item is showing out of stock. But I am writing this for anyone who is having a problem to let you know what to do.
The unit does run great.

Cons: OK this is the way to fix the problem: Drill two holes in the back of the unit so the water can drain. This is what is causing the noise. Problem solved........

5 out of 5 eggsSharp

Pros: I have owned a much larger Sharp A/C unit for 4 years now, very dependable and quite for its size.

Cons: The water issue, Yes you must drill a hole to let the water out or it splashes it out and makes noise. Do it very carefully and make it around 3/8 inch so it doesn't get clogged up so fast by leaves ect. I've bought several different brands of A/C's for my house and all of them needed water holes drilled into them, sad because that used to be a standard thing they all did. You should see a area under the fan that is stepped down as to collect the condensation, drill it to one side or the other in a space where nothing is above it.

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy another Sharp A/C

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for the price

Pros: Good AC for the money. Built well. Nice wireless remote feature.

Cons: I know people have complained about the annoing scraching noise started, goes on non stop. It tends to happen after the unit has been on for some time. What happens is that water collects on the bottom of the unit and the noise is actually the fan hitting the water and splashing it. To remedy this all you need to do is drill a hole in the bottom of the unit. I do not know why there is not one already there but there is not. I drilled it right under where the fan is, one of the low points on the bottom of the unit. If you do this keep the hole away from the rear heat exchanger. You don't want to puncture that! Drilling the hole and allowing the water to escape, fixed the problem. Sharp should have already done this at the factory. Other than that the unit is great!

4 out of 5 eggsGood Window Unit

Pros: I bought two from Newegg on last year July. By far, they are running very well. It has light weight and easy to install. It cools very well. It is quiet comparing with other window units I used in my home.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I hesitated to buy AC from Newegg last year because their return policy for big item. I made the bet because it is Sharp – good brand and good price. The box of one AC had little damage when it was delivered. The delivery guy put the boxes upside down. I was fear they would damage the units. But when I opened boxes; everything was ok.

4 out of 5 eggs2nd Review Sharp AF-S60RX

Pros: This is my 2nd review of the Sharp AF-S60RX. Sharp makes a soild mid-range air conditioner for a reasonable price. They perform pretty well overall, but they aren't of Friedrich/Panasonic build quailty. They use styrofoam as it's liner (as do many Chinese-built AC unit manufactuers do today) I still find them a tad louder then my older Panasonic AC units, but better then most on the market. Some people claim they are very quiet, but I think they are "somewhat" quiet. Not terrible, but not the best either IMHO. My 5300 BTU Panasonic (model #CW-C53HU) sounds like a "Church Mouse" vs. the Sharp. Please keep in mind that Panasonic got out of the home AC business because they simply were too expensive to make over time. The upside is it's pushes cold air @ a nice rate & I love the solid remote (it's built like a tank)

Cons: None really to speak of. Could be a little less noisy.

Other Thoughts: Sharp AC units cost only a little more then your bargin basement companies & they are worth the extra money. I would say Sharp is on the same build quailty of an LG AC unit. They are sourced-out like most are today, but Sharp & LG uses better components then the likes of other brands. If you're looking for a soild bedroom/small office AC unit, then Sharp is a soild choice.

1 out of 5 eggsfixing the scratching noise

Pros: cools the room and is quiet once you fix the defect

Cons: This unit has mace a scratching noise since day one. IO sent it back for repair but it was not fixed. Sharp customer service was no help. I decided to fix it myself. The cause of the scratching noise is the styrofoam shroud that surrounds the faz rubbing against the fan blades and the housing. I disassembled the unit removing the cover and used caulking to glue the two halves of the styrofoam shroud together. A few extra dabs on the side and the problem was solved. This is an obvious ddesign falw and Sharp has no clue on how to fix it.
