4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Just an update to my review submitted before.
Mine complain was - the compressor shuts off after each
5-7 minutes of work for 3 minutes, and goes into this cycle.
Had to call service (the unit is on warranty).
The tech came, and told that my problem is a very long exhaust. True - I had no window avail, and constructed 15 ft long exhaust line to the street. The tech said: it must blow hot air directly through a window, using only the unit's tube and no longer than 4-5 ft. Overwise, the compressor get overheated and shuts off. He was right - I put it through a window (with 4 ft stretched tube) - it works fine.

Cons: The timer does not work...

Other Thoughts: I don't have a permanent drain outside, so:
1) I elevated the AC on 6-inch (4) bed risers
2) Put a short (3-inch) plastic tube on the drain
3) Use 18x12x7" plastic container (4 gallons capacity) placed under the tube to drain

1 out of 5 eggsDefected from the beginning

Pros: Quiet, has 3 modes.

Cons: The unit does not work properly. It shuts off, despite being well drained (permanent drain line hooked up). The same thing happens in both: AC and Dehumidifier modes. Does not matter what setting (temperature/timer) is set. Works for 5 min. then compressor shuts off(the fan keeps working) for 3-4 min., then goes back on.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy.

2 out of 5 eggsQuiet but not great for price

Pros: Quieter than window units I've tried. Multi-function remote is nice but too many buttons. Cold air coming out of unit, not sure about the volume. Does not make any rattling or other noises, vibrates a little but is mostly white noise. Rolls easily. No water issues.

Cons: The duct gives off a ton of heat - expect to insulate it (I bought a $10 insulated pipe duct and slid it over the exhaust pipe). I run it constantly and never feel like the room (15'x25') gets cold, just cool. Very heavy unit, don't plan on moving it much up/down stairs often or without help. Very pricey for the performance. Cheap plastic window attachments for vent, broke on first attempt at connecting so I've taped it together. I saw the same unit for much less at a local wholesale club less than a month after I got it - surprised the price is still what it is in 2012 on NE.

Other Thoughts: I bought this unit to replace a noisy Kenmore window unit for my bedroom (which is cold but loud with irregular noises that wake you). I was reluctant because of the price but was swayed by reviews on this site and what I've read online about these types of units. It is quiet, but for the price I don't think it's a good choice. I used an infrared thermometer to test this device. 54F air coming out of the unit gets the room down to 71F but the unit must run constantly to maintain this temp. The exhaust duct gives off 115F heat so it's working against the unit unless you insulate the duct. I also found that setting the unit to 64F actually made it worse - the unit worked harder and the air came out the same temp so the room actually got warmer.
Overall, not worth the price for me - but I still haven't found a quiet window unit. In hindsight I should have tried a mini-spit system for about the same price as the last 2 window units I've purchased.

2 out of 5 eggsdidn't last

Pros: Looks nice
Quieter than most I've used
Cooled well first summer

Cons: Doesn't do well in humid weather.
Unit randomly shuts off now, after about a year of use, even in cooler conditions, despite being well drained (permanent drain line hooked up) and well ventilated and regularly cleaned inside/out.
Casters are cheap.

Other Thoughts: Was the best I'd ever used, the first year (summer 2011) Since March 2012, it's given me nothing but trouble. That's a lot of money to spend on a product that only works for a single season.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic, does not need draining

Pros: This is an excellent and affordable cooling solution for medium-sized rooms. We used this in the summer in upstate New York and it cools the room to a nice temperature when outside temperatures are in the 90-100s.
The heat exhaust duct is easily installed on a windowsill by closing the window onto it and it has grates to keep animals out.
Absolutely NO draining is required when used as an air conditioner (see Cons). The moisture is sent out the heat exhaust duct.
The fins on the unit can optionally be made to automatically move the air up and down and close when the unit is turned off.
Runs fine on a shared electrical circuit, i.e., it does not blow fuses or trip breakers.

Cons: The exhaust duct is a little awkward to install.
The unit is very heavy.
When used in dehumidifier mode it must be drained (of course) because the exhaust duct is routed back into the room. This is not a problem when in air conditioning mode.

Other Thoughts: I sort of wish this unit was still available to purchase. I'm looking for the new model in this line.

2 out of 5 eggsNice AC - Very Heavy

Pros: Quiet,
Ion Generation
Wheels
Nice looking (As these things go.)
Good output.

Cons: Very Heavy -100 + lbs
Large exhaust hose.
Window exhaust interface is not the best design. Not very sturdy and is somewhat difficult to install. Unit does have to be drained. So if "move the unit outdoors or over a floor drain" is not easily accomplished..........

Other Thoughts: Really a nice product. The whole exhaust tube in the window is not the best system in terms of design. My unit was damaged in shipment. = Too expensive to address given egg policies. I don't think buying heavy items from NE is a very good idea. Shipping damage was not obvious when received.

5 out of 5 eggsIt cools, it's quiet, hasn't flooded

Pros: It cools well, it's quiet, and it does not seem to leak.

Cons: No manual and no AAA batteries in my shipment.

Other Thoughts: The Sharp cv-2p12sx is a fine product and I’d buy or recommend it again at Newegg’s price point. It’s quiet and doesn’t flood the floor like the other model I had to return. Be sure to have 2 AAA batteries on hand, you can’t use the unit without the remote and batteries were not included in my shipment. Also there was no manual and SharpUAS’s website didn’t have one though Sharp did email me one immediately. There really is stuff you might not guess without a manual such as louvers that serve as a rain guard on the outside end of the hose and some kind of a test button on the plug. Still, it cools, it’s quite, and it hasn’t leaked yet.

5 out of 5 eggsIf you are happy and you know it clap your hands!

Pros: Great Product at a Great Value! High Quality, Easy to Install, Simple Instructions, Works like a Champ! This is not just a Room Air Conditioner, it's a Multi-Function Device that will Cool your room, take out the Humidity, Clean the air and more! Wish I would have bought it sooner. Can't wait to sleep in comfort tonight.

Cons: Wish you could vent the unit through a wall instead of a window but may try down the road to retrofit it to exhaust like my clothes dryer. Most functions only can be accessed via the Remote control so don't lose it.

Other Thoughts: Newegg does it again! Providing consumers with excellent products at extreme values. I ordered the unit with regular shipping on Sunday night and it was delivered on Tuesday.

4 out of 5 eggsBad Newegg. Nice Sharp unit

Pros: Unit is handsome
Cools well
Ionization is a plus
Condensation water collection not a problem out here on the West Coast

Cons: The box came with minor damage which resulted in a cracked plastic window adapter. Nature of packing prevents reusing box, but Newegg will only ship a whole new 135 lb unit, and mandates sending back the old. All this for a 3 oz plastic adapter. Sharp states newgg should help customer.

Other Thoughts: I will never purchase another large item from newegg. (TV or other) The relationship with the manufacture does not allow, or they do not desire, to arrange for replacing damaged small parts. You need to be aware total replacement is the only option with Newegg. Keep your box and be sure the carrier notes any damage
