5 out of 5 eggsVery convenient and easy to use

Pros: Light weight, low profile, easy storage, convenient, cooks fast, less hazardous than contemporary cook-tops.

Cons: Boils quickly when set to high... splatters and drips all around base. I cut a hole the size of the base of the pot in a towel and draped it over the unit to catch the drip.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a portable cooking solution that travels easily.

1 out of 5 eggsIt quit working after 10 months.

Pros: When it worked, it was nice and fast. Also, it was programmable so it could be set to cook for 15 minutes, then shut off.

Cons: Bought it April 2015, ten months ago. It makes no difference it outlasted NewEgg's 30 day guarantee and Tatung's 90 day guarantee. Now it gets added to the electronic junk pile that needs special recycling.

Other Thoughts: No, I can't recommend this item. Spend a bit more for decent quality that the manufacturer backs up with a warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality!

Pros: No

Cons: I used it for several months, but it didn't work after that. I contacted with the manufacturer and they told me I had to deliver it to the US and paid the huge mail charges by myself. So I decided to throw it out and won't buy this brand's products anymore!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Intro To Induction Cooking

Pros: Very fast and efficient.
Reactive (versus resistive) load is good for generators or solar inverters and eases the strain and mileage you get.
Heats 10 ounces of tea to 120 degrees F in about 45 seconds.
You can move it anywhere in kitchen to make more space or take it with you, very light.

Cons: Manual is somewhat lacking as has been stated but there is a cooking temperature scale on their website. Fan is indeed somewhat loud but acceptable.

Other Thoughts: Several members of our household use this several times daily. It is quick and easy learn the different settings and once learned you get exactly what you expect. Power levels 1-4 duty cycle (turn on and off) to achieve lower powers but then again so does an electric stove. This is a great introduction to induction cooking towards making a decision about a full range top. Remember that the standard outlet is limited to 1500 watts or so but we can still cook a very large pot with a lid. The larger models that use 250 volts can achieve 3600 watts like a regular large burner. Recommended for the price, thanks NewEgg!

3 out of 5 eggsnoisy but interesting

Pros: Cooks real fast.. and heat tranfer is very efficient.. surface does not get hot. but the pan gets quite hot so be careful.

Cons: I don't know about others but the fan noise is quite loud.. and it doesn't seem to matter what setting it is set for.

Other Thoughts: Nice introduction to induction cooking.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Deal

Pros: It works fine.

Cons: The manual does suck. W is for Watts and H is for Heat. The numbers translation can be found on the website: http://www.tatungusa.com/download/manual_418168458861343_tict-1502mu.pdf

1 out of 5 eggsPOOR USER MANUAL

Pros: Seems to heat properly....

Cons: 1. There is nothing in the manual to explain the difference between theTemp button and the Heating button.
2. What do the F and W lights mean...
3. What does H on the display mean ?
4. The display rates the temperature from 1 to 9. How does that relate to Fahrenheit temperatures ? My previous Induction cooker displayed the temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius.

Other Thoughts: I haven't heard from Tatung support yet. will wait a little longer. Considering returning to Newegg.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks and Heats Quickly

Pros: Control how hot your pot/pan is instantly, just like gas cooking. It's amazing to have instant feedback, unlike the delayed response from a regular electric stovetop. It's easy to see the water boiling gently or vigorously upon changes to the heat level. However, it'd take a lot more getting used to get the right heat level when cooking doesn't involve food in a pot of liquid.

Cons: Instruction is almost nil. The 2 buttons (Temp and Heating) are puzzling. I can't tell what the difference is between their functions or whether they both simply work identically. Also, I get a 'H' when I finish cooking and press the 'Standby/On' button with the intent of shutting the device off. Also, there is a whining sound when I kept the unit plugged in (but not turned on), so it must draw electricity when it's on Standby.

5 out of 5 eggsUses Other Than Cooking

Pros: Immediate heat with high efficiency. Applied heat is as uniform as the ferrous pan used.

Unit is incredibly powerful, with its maximum settings able to heat an in-pan sample to around 480 degrees F within a minute. It is well made to the degree that it hasn't failed in a month, something that can't be said of most resistance coil burners.

The included pan is actually fairly well made.

Safer than using gas burners, assuming the technician understands the technology.

Cons: Control group requires some explaining when the cooktop is to used by technicians new to the unit.

Controls are somewhat crude, without direct temperature settings and using ambiguous "levels" that most find extrinsic.

Destroys cheap pans and some tools on maximum settings. Can actually decompose sensitive samples and organic material in the hands of the inattentive technicians.

For cooking on it, I can see a learning curve being an issue.

Other Thoughts: I use this in a materials lab, in the place of a traditional resistance coil burner.

Normal uses include drying sample material back for moisture analysis and preparing small runs of materials for rush testing. Due to its limited capacity, it isn't suitable to replace a full range top or a lab oven for bulk material.

Training others to use it is usually easy enough, but some are still leery of using it.

This unit was an experiment, and my company will likely be buying more based on the utility it offers for the price.
