Save money! This programmable thermostat will save you a bundle on your heating and cooling bills! Program it to be just right when you and your family are at home, and then take it all down to almost unbearable when the house is empty!

If you leave the house for work at seven AM, and you are home by five PM. This thermostat can be set to maintain the house at your desired temperature, from 6:30 to 4:30, Monday through Friday, when no one is at Home. At 4:30, it can turn on the heat, so you come home to a warm comfortable environment at 5. Take the temperature down again at bedtime, and let it rise again for the morning hours, as you get ready for work. On the weekends, set it for comfortable 24 hour use. The vacation override will set it to one temperature, until you are home again!

This is a thermostat whose time has come! Protect the environment as well as save a bundle on heating and cooling costs! Using less energy is always a good idea, as long as we don't have to suffer! This will be the best purchase you have made all year! It will pay its own price back, in the savings! Don't pass up the 7-day program digital thermostat from Hunter!

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Easy to install. That's worth an egg.

Cons: Cheap. As soon as you cut open the package it just smells cheap. Constructed with very cheap plastic. Backplate is very flexible, even with additional screws securing it to the wall. I had a bad feeling from the start, but continued anyway.

All of that would of been acceptable if the thing actually worked correctly! As soon as it was installed and the power was resupplied to the unit, it fired up the gas furnace with a high urgency. Despite it being 80 degrees and the unit set to 65 and the switch the off position, the heat was constantly on. I quadruple checked the wiring and after consulting the manual's troubleshooting guide it turns out the unit is faulty.

Since we are renting, we wanted something cheap enough to leave behind. And since this doesn't qualify for a refund (and I don't care for a replacement), I guess we will be doing just that.

Other Thoughts: I guess I don't have to worry about properly disposing mercury now.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: full 7-day programming with 4 unique time/temp periods per day; can take off the wall and sit down with the unit to program it

Cons: can take a long time to program if you want each day to be truly unique; too easy to accidentally blow away your custom program if you bump the "auto program" button

Other Thoughts: does a nice trick where it lets you set all week days identically, and then saturday/sunday identically, and then lets you adjust all 7 days individually away from that. if you're not expecting it, it could confuse you into thinking it's a 5+2 thermostat only, but it's a useful feature once you know it's there.

One of my two units showed fails to turn on the heat and just blinks ERR when it tries. I'm going to have to return to manufacturer. If my experience is exceptional either way, I may come back and comment here again.

From an assembly point of view, the units have a ton of flux left behind, corroding some of the PCB. If you have access to flux cleaner, you may want to give them a quick once-over.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for the money

Pros: 7 day program feature with multiple time zones each saves tons over old fashioned mercury based analog thermostats that most not updated homes have.

Cons: Hrmm.. it didn't come with free doughnuts?

Other Thoughts: read the manual and install it properly! Its very easy to install physically, comes with the hardware needed including the drywall mounts, there's no excessive need to mount it perfectly level so best fit is good. Easy to program and has an indiglo button at night to check the time and temp.

I highly recommend this for anyone trying to save some money. My energy bill is literally half what it was last year with this thing and thats setting the temp where I want it now, where before with my old mercury based unit I was shivering in the winter and sweating in the summer.

I haven't figured out how to set the weekend days yet, they are set for very low/very high in the winter/summer by default. I left it this way and let it run manual since I'm not always home on the weekends.

5 out of 5 eggsInstructions not correct

Pros: Once you get it working, it's great. RTFM, it's lengthy -- but programming it is easy if you read through the entire process before you program it. Do yourself a favor, program it before putting it on the wall, so you're not standing there cycling through four settings for six "days" (Sa/Su count as one)

Cons: The wiring set up for a five wire was not correct. Thermostat would not shut off when temperature was reached, turned on heat at one point. A call to CS revealed we needed to remove the blue wire and add the jumper between the red wires.

Other Thoughts: Quick & easy install. Now that it's working properly I look forward to saving afew bucks on heating/cooling costs monthly. If nothing else, it is 10000x better than our previous thermostat, which seemed to run constantly if set below 80, and could be controlled by smacking it....

4 out of 5 eggsEasy to program and install

Pros: Easy to install and program. Indiglo "nightlight" feature is nice.

Cons: The backing plate that attaches to the wall is surprisingly flexible. I've tried tightening the screws and it still seems to flex a bit. If not for this I would have given it 5 stars.

Other Thoughts: Great value. Would buy again. Got mine from another online retailer only because I didn't think to check Newegg for thermostats! Who knew!?!?!
