1 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny

Pros: It is small and takes up little counter space. It toasts bread/bagels, etc..
It will cook anything that can be cooked in 15 minutes.
It was only $13, so throwing it into the garbage was not a painful thing to do.

Cons: It has a 15 minute limit on the timer. 20-30 minute dishes must be cooked some other way.
The finish is paint; mine is white and permanently yellowed around the opening, from burning toast on its inaugural use.
The entire exterior gets as hot as the interior, so it is IMPERRATIVE that this unit be pulled away from the wall when using it, or the heat of the case will eventually damage the power cord, and cause a dangerous situation.
If it were my responsibility at Newegg, I would recall these things. There cannot be enough profit in the sale of a $13 toaster, to cover loss of reputation, and the expense of a liability lawsuit that someone might readily bring, from using this, as one might use any toaster oven, found in a store.

Other Thoughts: Good for short cooking times, low budget and extra cautious users, who are not too fussy about long term good looks. All in all, it serves its purpose.
If you have no high expectations, then you will not be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little toaster

Pros: 1. Compact
2. Easy to clean
2. Does all these 3 things ( bake, toast, and broil) well
3. Got it on special for 13.00 w/ free shipping

Cons: This is a minor con. The rack does not slide forward/ backward automatically like my previous unit when the door is open.

5 out of 5 eggsHasn't caught on fire yet!

Pros: Very reasonably priced. Does what it's intended to do: TOAST, BAKE & BROIL things.

Has an (up to 15 minute) timer, w/ pre-set indicators for LIGHT, MED. DARK, 10, and 15 mins.

There's also a STAY ON mode (no timer, simply stays on until you shut it off). Obviously this is good if you need the to toast/bake/broil something for longer than 15 mins at a time.

For a compact toaster oven, it's very spacious. Has room to toast 4 slices of bread (laying each piece down flat side by side) or perhaps 6 enlgish muffins (split open & flat).

Previous no-name "compact" toaster oven this one replaced could only fit 2 slices of bread or 1 english muffin (split open flat), maybe 1.5 enligh muffins (as 3 muffin halves) . The Maxi-Matic toaster oven has more depth to it than previous one, so its tray is more square in shape while the previous one's was more rectangular in shape.

Cleanup of crumbs and other stuff which falls to the bottom is a breeze thanks to a bottom crumb door. That door swings wide open, enabling anything trapped at the bottom to fall out. (Open it somewhere you don't mind having a mess of crumbs fall spill, such as over a sink or garbage can).

Cons: The STAY ON mode (which keeps the unit on indefinitely) could be dangerous (fire hazard) if you leave the unit on and forget to shut it off. The same could be said about ANY oven which stays on until manually shut off though, so won't knock off any eggs because of that.

Other Thoughts: Suggest reading through the user manual before purchasing. A link to the manual is currently listed at the Manufacturer's Product Page, where Newegg has provided a link to that page at the bottom of the "Specifications" tab (next to the Reviews tab).

2 out of 5 eggsGood value, but dangerous and tough to clean

Pros: Bottom line, it's a very cheap and effective toaster oven. We got it based on cost to figure out if we wanted to switch from a normal toaster. We also have limited counter space, so the small footprint of this was a plus.

It does heat up well, and there is a genuine difference in result between broil and toast (top element) and bake (bottom element only), so it's very effective at what the controls say it will do.

And it's very consistent -- once you figure out the best place to put food for a particular result, it'll be reliable in that regard.

Finally, it'd durable -- we have done an awful job of keeping ours clean, and I'm not gentle with it when I clean it, and it's never had a problem...there's not much to HAVE a problem, but still, it gets a nod for that.

Cons: Safety. Pure and simple. First, this thing gets hot -- HOT. Every square inch becomes scalding hot. The glass front, the sides, the top (we left something on top, and it baked an impression onto the top of ours), even the plastic handle gets uncomfortably hot. I have to quickly flip the door open and use tongs to pull the tray out when retrieving food. There's enough of a protrusion of the back cover to keep the unit from getting too close to the wall, so despite the heat we haven't had any scalding of the surrounding walls or the cabinet above the place where we have this. Just don't try to move the thing after you've cooked with it.

And while we have kids, we have been pretty diligent about not leaving it unattended while on when the kids are also running around. But I would actually never recommend anyone buy this if they have little curious kids...seriously, it's as bad as an unattended pan on the stove, and possibly worse than an open flame since a flame at least looks like the thing is is -- scalding fire. I don't think humans are born with an instinctive fear of white cubes.

HUGE safety concern -- the heating elements are governed by the timer only -- if you open the door, the elements keep running. I'm not sure if any toaster ovens auto shut off, but this one should given the way it gets so hot. And the door opens easily. I don't think there's any risk of it accidentally opening (and it never has for us), but if you didn't close it all the way, or flung the door closed it could bounce back open.

The trays slide into slots in the body, but there's nothing to keep them from tipping once they're halfway out, so, if you pull your food out on the tray and you get past that halfway point, it tips and dumps your food onto the open glass door...which is incredibly hot. So you have to resist the urge to reach down and grab the dropped food...and if that food included anything like butter, it gets liquefied and flows all over rapidly and you really can't wipe it up safely unless you have oven mits on.

Finally, the door doesn't seal, so when you cook, steam escapes out the door, and it stains the opening and all of the painted surfaces very quickly. You can take a tray off the bottom to help clean the insides, but it's still very difficult to give this a thorough cleaning. And if you don't clean the glass door regularly, it gets caked with a filthy grease stain very quickly.

Other Thoughts: For all the negatives, ours has worked with perfect reliability, and did exactly what we have needed it to do. And we just wanted a cheap way to learn if a toaster oven would meet out needs, and it did that for us. And for all the heat issues, nobody has been hurt by it...a little singe here and there, but no worse than, say, our stove. I'm just surprised an appliance like this -- which seems loaded with risk -- wasn't tossed out by somebody's legal department.
