5 out of 5 eggsLOVE IT!

Pros: TWO water tanks. One for clean and one for dirty water. Imagine that! I say that with some sarcasm, because my last SteamVac had ONE tank. Pretty moronic to be using the same dirty water to clean your floor. The two tank option is a MUST!

Cons: Obviously you could not have HUGE tanks on a machine meant to be easily pushed and pulled, but would be nice if the water tanks did not need filled\emptied as often as they do. Would one cycle be too much to asked, per room? Not a deal breaker though.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat SteamVac!

Pros: Cleans carpet and upholstery wonderfully! Works great with ammonia or vinegar as the soap solution... maybe even better than the concentrated soaps you can use.

Cons: Has small dispensary tank and you have to operate it slow. You can't use it like a vacuum. Pro steam cleaners may get pretty vigorous with their vacs, so they do get it done faster.

Other Thoughts: I researched steamvacs for 3days online before getting this one. I'm glad I did. Great Vac. Would be nice if the tanks would need to be filled or drained, depending on which one, at the same time. Normally, you fill the dirty water tank before you run out of stuff to dispense. But, given its great performance, I don't really care.
I use a carpet cleaning soap and then i go over that with an ammonia solution. The ammonia solution allows you to remove the remaining soap. You don't want to leave any soap on the carpet when you're done, or it will get dirty even faster, because dirt sticks to dry soap. Then you have soap scum in your carpet!
Since it doesn't heat the water itself, I use a gallon size tea kettle to put boiling water in it, then I fill the rest of the way with as hot a water as I can get from faucet. I'm amazed every time at how much junk it gets out of the carpet!
I'm getting excited about it all over again.. I think I'm gonna get er back out and do some more steam clean

2 out of 5 eggsWon't get fooled again

Pros: Low cost, comparatively, does clean well.

Cons: VERY cheaply made. I can see the clips holding the front scrub brush not lasting very long, as well as any of the moveable plastic parts.

Other Thoughts: I'm not jumping on the cheap plastic bandwagon here. I've owned several Hoover carpet cleaners, and the "steam" cleaning issue set aside, I'm very disappointed how the quality of the construction has declined over the last 3 decades. My last unit only saw occasional use, as most of my home is hardwood flooring with carpet in the bedrooms only and needed to be replaced after only 4 years. Maybe no more than 50-60 uses. I expect this one to last half as long, based on the feel of the unit. I will not ever again buy a carpet cleaner sight unseen. The 4-egg rating swayed me to buy this one. Sorry, but I'm going to justifiably bring down the average.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great; hard to clean after use

Pros: Easy to assemble and easy to use. Deep cleans as it should. Suction is good; there is only a little water left on the carpet. Much more economical than hiring an average cleaning person who misses the corners and is careless on furniture.

Cons: The intake tank can be thoroughly cleaned but not the other parts the intake flow goes through. After some effort the moldy smell was still there, so instead of the storage room, I put it in the far corner of the garage in case the mold can infect other stuffs.

Other Thoughts: No steamer, have to heat water myself. Not a big deal for me but maybe a deal breaker for you.

5 out of 5 eggsHOOVER F5914900 SteamVac With Clean Surge

Pros: Unit dose what it says it cleans and dose it very well. People keep saying it doesn't heat the water which is true, but what it dose is it heats the cleaning path with hot air which in my opinion is far better, just use the unit with bare feet and you will see, the cleaning path is extremely warm.

Has hand attachment for doing tight areas/furniture/car on other units this is a costly feature.

The vertical brushes are far superior and are removable so they can be cleaned.

No belts to wear or break.

Other units I have used leave the carpet wet for days after using this one it was dry in hours could not believe it.

Includes a bottle of cleaning solution.

Would buy it again and highly recommend to others.

Price cant be beat and free shipping too.

Cons: Made of plastic and can break easy, But make it out of metal and listen to the people complain about the weight then so how do they win, and I am sure the cost would be quadrupled. bottom line just don't beat it around like a regular vacuum.

Parts maybe hard to get but for the price not a big deal. and not like you use it everyday so it should last for many years.

My box was in rough shape upon arrival small crack in a non structural component so no big deal, shippers fault, unit still works perfect.

Other Thoughts: This unit cannot be used like a vacuum pushing and dragging it fast, you have to move slow and melodically, overlapping and slow strokes when you do it right it really gets the dirt up.

I do two passes with cleaning solution then do one with just water only to get up any remaining solution, works very well.

The tanks could be bigger but that would just add weight if you use it right (slow and steady) you can fill the drain tank without activating the full indicator which is like a float ball in a wet vac rocking motion will activate it sooner.

2 out of 5 eggsUnit cleanup is a mess...

Pros: It does a fairly decent job at cleaning the carpet, but for those heavier knap/weaves, it lacks the weight to really deep vac, leaving a lot of cleaning solution behind. Expect the carpet to be clean, with the knap loose and not swirly like some cleaner leave it. Cleaning supply tank snaps positively into upright arm, and dirty water levers into base. Both are fairly easy to remove/install. Power scrubber hose attachment works well. Hose provides cleaning solution as well.

Cons: No on board heater. Unit cleanup is more difficult than it should be. Emptying the cleaning solution supply tank and the dirty water collection tank is a disaster. There are so many small columns in the "legs" of the tank that dirt/grime/etc. build up. The only way to clean out the tank completely is by a sprayer hose in the sink (and who wants that dirt going into the kitchen sink?) or a garden hose. The front of the unit (where all the liquid/sludge gets sucked out in plain view) does not open for a clean out, you have to unscrew the plate if you want to get the chunks out. There is no easy way to empty the supply tank when done, suffering from similar problems with nooks and corners prohibiting a full drain.

Other Thoughts: Do not set the handle down on the ground when you remove the collection tank, you will rip the vacuum hose with it's water line. Replacement cost of that line was $95 last time I checked. Use HALF of the cleaning solution when filling the tank. Power cord length is good (15 foot or more), can clean most "average-sized" rooms without finding another outlet.

5 out of 5 eggs2 years

Pros: This cleaner has been running strong for two years now, we've used the hell out of it cleaning up after our pets and everything else. It's survived 3 moves and I let a friend borrow it a few times. The people who say it breaks because it is plastic are just careless, the plastic is durable enough to survive normal wear.

Cons: Sometimes you have to go in and clean the hair ect. out the bottom but that's expected.

Other Thoughts: I did my shopping around when looking for a budget carpet cleaner and luckily I decided against the bissels and went with this hoover, great machine. I paid the sale price 2 years ago so this thing hasn't dropped in price at all, that's gotta say something...

4 out of 5 eggsGood Steam Cleaner

Pros: Easy to use, indeed cleans well. For the price it did a decent job, I would have spent 30-50 $ for a onetime rental of a carpet cleaner. So if you use it even 5 times an year, its paid for.

Cons: No steam is produced, the heat is whatever hot water you filled in the tank.Required more assembly for my comfort, I was easily able to assemble vaccum cleaners I had purchased in past. But assembly is a one time thing. Like other revewers pointed out it has the look and feel of cheap plastic.

1 out of 5 eggscheap plastic; leaky

Pros: fair cleaning ability; easy tank refills

Cons: These vacuum manufacturers STILL don't get it. Vacuums made out of plastic BREAK.

Hoover, is that so hard to understand?

Vacuums are the most heavily-used machines in households and as such have demonstrated, time and again, to be totally incapable of withstanding vacuum manufacturers' rudimentary attempts at economization through the use of flimsy, brittle plastic in place of sturdy metal.

How is it that these people still don't get this? Why do these vacuum engineers continue to go to work every day and ponder, "what sturdy metal components can I replace in my product today with cheap plastic?"

Hoover, can you please scrape together a couple dollars and use metal in my vacuum? What is wrong with you? Your vacuums are BREAKING! Stop it!

Other Thoughts: In summary, this vacuum works relatively well, however Hoover's use of cheap plastic spoils its rating.
