5 out of 5 eggsHefty Price Delivers Great Rice Every Time

Pros: Very consistent, never scorches or burns rice, large or small batches

Cons: Not really a con but fuzzy logic prevents seeing end time of cycle until part way through

Other Thoughts: We eat rice once or twice a week. We have always had low end rice cookers which get the job done but with issues. The Panasonic rice cooker is considerably more expensive but really does a fabulous job.

There are a number of cycles depending on what kind of rice you are making as well as cycles for non-rice cooking. The cooking time varies depending on the type of rice and the size of the batch. It is really amazing how the rice is perfect every time.

The machine never scorches or makes rice crusty on the bottom like our cheaper cookers did. The keep warm cycle works very well.

Because of the fuzzy logic the timing of a batch can vary. As such you don't know at the start of a batch how long the batch will take. It isn't until the batch is well underway that the system starts to display a countdown timer.

2 out of 5 eggsI should have kept my $20 cooker...

Pros: Nice looking, stores away nicely, easy to clean

Cons: Directions a little "Fuzzy"

Other Thoughts: I'd always wanted one of these, so thinking I was upgrading from a super-basic, 20 year old rice cooker, out went that one and in came the Panasonic. In the 6 months I owned it, I cooked brown rice a total of 5 times; 2 of those 5 times, the unit never got hot enough for the rice to cook, even partially, after the 2 hour time period. The other three times, it came out great. However, for a "computerized" rice cooker that can allegedly good just about anything, failing to cook basic rice is just not acceptable. I read, re-read and re-read again the entire manual thinking I was doing something wrong, but wasn't. Since Newegg wouldn't accept a return after 30 days, (not to mention the item is now discontinued) back to Panasonic it went. So, $XX plus tax for the unit, $20 to ship it to the manufacturer - sometimes, as in this case, newer isn't better. (By the way, Newegg, if you're going to discontinue a product that's so new that it still falls under the manufacturer's warranty, you really should allow the customer to return it to YOU for a refund, rather than the manufacturer having their choice of repairing or replacing the item..just a thought)

2 out of 5 eggsUsage difficulties

Pros: Looks very nice.

Cons: Instructions poorly written and unclear. Plan to sit down with the manual for a long time to understand how to set the clock. We gave up. Panosonic: spend a very few dollars to have a regular consumer from each country write your directions. Also the instructions say it takes 2 hours to cook 2 cups of brown rice so you will need to set the clock to cook in advance of your meal. I don't know about you, but my lifestyle doesn't allow me to start my evening rice dinner in the afternoon.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good product !!!

Pros: I am using this product for over a month now. Very, very good and easy to use, instruction is somewhat hard to read, but you don’t really need it. It's all about load the food, turn it on and forget. Just be creative on your recipes and that’s it. 110% recommend.

Cons: Be careful with the bowl, don't scratch it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Product

Pros: The top is bit loose but overall it is a good product. It takes a little longer to cook the rice but slow cook's function exceeds my expectation.

Cons: Top is bit loose.

5 out of 5 eggsI shouldn't have waited so long

Pros: This is a fabulous rice cooker! I purchased it to cook rice and so far that is all I have used it for, it will cook up to 5.5 cups rice perfectly every time.
Rice cooked in this unit tastes great and is better than any rice I have ever been able to cook using any other device or method.

Cons: No real con's with this product, but if I get real picky I would say that the gray plastic steam plug can come off easily although it has never just fallen out. and it's usage is not covered in the manual, I leave it in and the rice is perfect, so I leave it in.
The pan is light weight and Teflon coated so be sure to use the plastic rice spoon included with the cooker and don't bang the pan around too much and it will be fine and last forever.

Other Thoughts: I have pretty much had very good luck with every Panasonic product that I have ever purchased and this rice cooker is no exception, after owning it for several months I would buy it all over again, they also make great gifts I have discovered.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: This rice cooker is intuitive and easy to use. The many modes offer you multiple options depending on what you're cooking. The brown rice mode makes the most delicious fluffy brown rice that I have ever had. Steamer mode with the steaming basket is a great way of steaming fish or dumplings. The old fashioned cookers (ones with on/off and a lid) would always burn even if you placed it in "warm" mode.

Cons: Bowl probably scratches a bit easy, but no different from any other cooker with a teflon coating. The steaming basket is very deep so you will not be able to steam anything while you cook rice.

Other Thoughts: Don't listen to Wayne. It is an awesome rice cooker.

1 out of 5 eggsQuick Cook is really fast - yet rice still raw!

Pros: Less expensive compared to big names like Tiger, Zojirushi.
(I bought it for $60; Tiger and Zojirushi are either $100 or a lot more)

Nothing else.

Cons: Quick Cook rice takes less than 20min - yet the result is always half-cooked/raw rice!!!
Normal Cook rice is less aromatic than that from Tiger and Zojirushi.

I would never buy another Panasonic electronic item (long ago I dumped Sony after owning its DSC F717 digital camera.)

Other Thoughts: Panasonic and Sony, giants of yesterday, are big jokes of today
- yesterday one pays a premium for their items due to their name recognition;
- today we buy them when they're significantly cheaper (than Apply, Samsung, Tiger, etc) Yet they NEVER fail to DISappoint!!! Why bother? Buy Made-in-China if I want cheap; buy Apple/HTC/Samsung/Tiger if I want quality!

4 out of 5 eggsI bought this mainly for brown rice cooking

Pros: The rice turned out perfect for my taste, not too soft, not too hard.

Cons: The water levels for each type of rice should be clearly indicated in the pot so you do not have to refer to the instructions.

Other Thoughts: Panasonic is more affordable than Zojirushi.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat quality for the price

Pros: There's a pretty high quality pot and the fuzzy logic controller lets you cook a wide variety of dishes. The price is pretty hard to beat on this one.

Cons: It's not a pressure-cooker style rice cooker- more expensive models cook much faster by holding the steam in while it cooks.
Also, there's nothing to catch any water that might boil over, so you have to be careful to avoid cooking too much at once.

Other Thoughts: Standard white rice cycle took ~30-40 minutes, but the rice was a bit soft for my liking, so it will probably take a bit of getting used to using just the right amount of water.
The quick cook feature did under-cook the rice by a little bit on warm, but after sitting for a few minutes it finished cooking on its own.
Congee on the porridge setting = awesome!

If you're tempted to try cooking a meal from one of those fancy rice-cooker cookbooks, just remember: fragrant spices can leave residual odors, so I'd suggest avoiding curries and / or anything with cinnamon (or add the spices after you move the food from the bowl to a pot on the stove for a few minutes).
