4 out of 5 eggsBest of the 2

Pros: I bought one each of this unit (R-IC-1500) and the RHIC-11001 to do a comparison. I liked this unit much better. The controls were more flexible and had a number of predefined settings - although I found it easier to just cycle through the wattage settings to control the temperature rather than try to memorize the different settings. I REALLY like the fact that all the controls are touch sensitive and are on the top with no mechanical knobs or switches. I used this with a set of Emeril Lagasse (Bam!) cookware and it worked great. I plan to do some comparison testing with a gas stove to see if the heating times are faster as many claim.
The RHIC-11001 which cost more came with a 'Stainless steel pot' but it was so thin that I'll never use it. I'm guessing that it is for demonstration purposes only.

Cons: I found it easier to just cycle through the wattage settings to control the temperature rather than try to memorize the different pre-defined settings.
There is a cooling fan that makes some noise when cooking. I wasn't expecting that. We'll see if it really gets on my nerves or not.

Other Thoughts: I'm redesigning my kitchen and want to use these for auxiliary cook tops when the gas stove is being used.

4 out of 5 eggsFast!

Pros: I was surprised how soon it was ready to cook right after power on. My pans get up to temp in no time. I tend to not think about pre-heating much anymore.

Cons: Like another reviewer said, it's kind of annoying to have to hit max power and then dial down every time it's turned on. I mostly use 600W and 800W which means ~6 taps every time I want to use the unit. A save feature would have been nice.

Initially it had a strange smell coming from it whenever it was powered on, like a sweet metallic odor. Fairly strong, and a bit nauseating. Fortunately after a week or so, the smell has diminished considerably (or maybe just masked by all the food I've cooked :-)).

Other Thoughts: Generally I find 600W to be the best setting for my cooking/cookware in terms of heat, but unfortunately that setting (and lower) uses on/off cycling and therefore isn't "smooth", whereas the next setting up, 800W, seems to be constant-on. So sometimes I find myself manually switching between 600W/800W, as something in between would be ideal for me. I wish there was a constant-on 600W setting. Nevertheless, overall I like this unit enough to get a second one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat extra burner

Pros: When preparing a meal for whole family, it is very convenient to have an extra burner. Quick heat up, easy clean up, steady power, what else could any one want.

Cons: wish it came in an 1800 watt version

4 out of 5 eggsBest induction plate for the money

Pros: It works exactly as advertised. Only with certain stainless steel pans and all cast iron pans. Heats everything up wonderfully.

Cons: Unintuitive. There's no way to just turn it on and adjust the power/temperature. You have to press "Max Power" and then dial it down. Kinda ridiculous. Little bit inconvenient, but not bad.

Other Thoughts: Easy to wipe down, just use the rough side of a sponge while unplugged.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks better than I was prepared for

Pros: solid and good looking. Low sound, lower than my micro oven. Powerful, boils water very quickly. Good chopice of presets.

Cons: Ugly Roseville logo on the top. Power cable could be more flexible. Top glass not easy to keep it clean.

Other Thoughts: I checked them all. This cooktop is the best choice under $100 in my opinion. As far as noise it depends on what cookware you use. Some of them generates more noise from this cooktop than others. Other than that I am very happy with it.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat induction cooker

Pros: Very efficient and very fast at heating food. The touch controls are very responsive. Very light-weight and easy to store.

Cons: This is induction and you have to use induction compatible cookware (which there aren't many yet). Some pots do 'harmonize' and make the whining sound mentioned by others, but it seems to be the cheap stuff.

Other Thoughts: I am extremely happy with this cooktop. The better the pans, the faster (and more evenly) things cook. The touch controls work better than my $2000 LG induction kitchen cooktop. Induction uses less electricity than any other electric cooktop, so makes it even more attractive. And for the price Newegg is selling this, it is a great value.

4 out of 5 eggsWelcome to the Twenty First Century

Pros: Outstanding performance, easy to use, many different functions.

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: I've seen induction coupling on thru-glass antennas for years, and as a HAM understood the workings, however until I put a pot of water on the boil, walked away for ten minutes and returned to a ragging boil I just didn't know how well it works. Interesting while the pot gets hot, little of that heat seems to transfer back to the glass top.

I'm very pleased!!!!
