There's a Lot of Neat Technology inside Every Neato Vacuum.

Neato vacuum

It Scans, Maps, and Plans

Most other robot vacuums move around a room at random. They bump into walls, bump into furniture. They go in circles, cleaning some spots several times and others not at all. But Neato knows exactly where it's going at all times.

Its remarkable laser eye uses infrared light to scan the surroundings five times every second. The result is a highly accurate 360-degree map of the room and any obstacles. Then the robot efficiently cleans in a pattern of straight, overlapping lines.

Neato vacuum

Don't You Dare Call It a Sweeper!

A lot of robot "vacuums" are really just sweepers. Their low vacuum power is merely an add-on. But not the Neato. It's the most powerful robot vacuum available today. At the core of every Neato is a centrifugal compression-impeller that uses jet engine airflow principles to create high-powered suction. You can count on it to pick up everything a traditional vacuum would - dirt, pet hair, dust, cereal, and more.

Neato vacuum

Obstacle Avoidance

As it moves around a room, the robot's sensor enables it to avoid obstacles like furniture, walls, stairs, and pets.

Neato vacuum

It Takes Care of Itself

A Neato can handle large floor plans, because it automatically recharges its batteries. When it's low on power, the robot simply returns to its base and recharges. Then it returns to clean, right where it left off.

Neato vacuum

With a Neato there are no bags to buy or throw away. All the dirt and debris is collected in the Neato's top-loading dirt bin. When the bin is full, you simply empty it into your trash.

Neato vacuum

Easy Scheduling

Set a schedule and the Neato will automatically clean at the time you set - daily, every other day, or three times a week.

Neato vacuum

All Floors Are Covered

Unlike some vacuums, Neato robots are designed to work on all types of surfaces. So it can go from the carpet in your living room right onto the tile in your kitchen.

Neato vacuum

Pets and Allergies

Breathe easy, there are Neato models specifically designed for pet owners and allergy sufferers. They feature two very special tools for removing allergens from your home. The bristle brush traps pet hair and lifts it from the surface. Then the special pleated filter removes particles from the air stream down to 0.3 microns in size, including mold, spores, cat and dog dander, dust mites, pollen, and textile and carpet fibers.

Neato vacuum

It Cleans Where You Don't

There are places in your home that don't get vacuumed very often (or at all), because they're so hard to reach. A Neato robot is only 4 inches high, so it can scurry under beds, couches, and other places regular vacuums can't go.

3 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: When it works, it works well

Cons: Neato began experiencing errors with rebooting and batteries in less than one year. Other than dropping an additional $100 dollars on replacement batteries, I have yet to find a fix from the company.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: when they work they do a fairly nice job of light vacuuming.

Cons: Did not work properly out of the box.The memory it uses to map out a room did not work. It always got lost and would just wander around totally lost. Even called neato robotics and after about 2 hours on the line got someone to talk to. Had me wipe the bottom sensors and do a reset by holding the power button down for 20 seconds til it came back on. This did not work so I have returned it back to newegg.

Other Thoughts: Be warned, do not buy these refurbished robots! I don't think they are serviced properly or they would work. I have been an early owner of these and it took about 6 robots before I received one that works.
And they were not refurbs. I thought that getting one that had the bugs worked out of it a refurb would be a good idea. WRONG!!

1 out of 5 eggsWorst $300 spent, don't buy this

Pros: - Works well in obstacle free environments when it isn't knocking doors into the closed position

Cons: - I was hesitant to purchase a refurb but the unit was fine for the first few months. I only used it once/week.
- Every other week there were hiccups. Please clear my dirt bin, although it wasn't full. Please clear my brush, although it didn't seem fully clogged up. Being a robot slave to my robot vacuum, I complied.
- Now, I get the dreaded "left wheel is stuck with debris" error. Turning it around, I notice the left wheel is not as smooth as the right wheel.
- Their support website is useless
- Worst $300 I've spent in my life, can't get a replacement, can't get the money back

Other Thoughts: Seriously don't buy this, waste of money. It's a public beta test of a product that they should be paying you to use. Completely aggravating.

4 out of 5 eggsNeato XV-21 Refurb

Pros: Bought on sale $199 and paid $18 for the additional warranty.

User menu and operation is simple. If so inclined, can be done using your toe. If the missus is reading, i did not do this!

It sucks, but in the good way! One pass and it has picked up dust and debris. Spot Clean and scheduler are a godsend for busy families or with pets.

I have a young family who are prone to missing their mouths! The spot clean covers about 2m square and can be let loose under the table whilst the kids are in their highchairs! They love it and have called it Veato. It navigates around table and chair legs.

At night we clear the room of clutter and pick up toys to give Veato the best chance for a good clean. It comes out after we're in bed to complete the open plan kitchen / dining / livingroom and front hall in about 90 minutes on one charge. It can get stuck under tapered/sloping furniture or on top of chair legs with odd shapes, so i'd recommend have it clean the area a few times during the day where it can be monitored and can note trouble area. I just move the offending chair outside the magnetic boundary and its all good.

We move it (Veato and the base station) around the house on a regular basis and we have not had any issues with it completing in one pass withou recharge or losing the base station. We only limit it to a room at a time as the upstairs is abit of a rabbit warren with bedrooms and bathrooms.

This saved us 3 hours/week and has made my wife a very happy lady!

Cons: It can get stuck on objects, so watch it the first few times to make sure its ok.

This is my first robotic vac, so have no frame of reference but to me the noise is ok. It doesnt scare my small kids (like the large upright vac) and can still carry on a normal conversation in the same room. I'm personally ok with this given i know how effective the vacume is. We had guests in the basement below and said that the scheduled cleaning sounded like being under a flight path, but that has more to do with our soundproofing than anything!

Other Thoughts: We clean the dustbin and filter after each use as its only the size of about 2 rubics cubes. I would have like this to be bundled with 2 additional filters as you will need these.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last

Pros: Worked really well when it was working. Easy to setup and very easy to use. Very simple timing schedule and did the job very well.

Took care of our cat hair issues on the hard wood floors great.

Cons: Didn't last 90 days. On the 89th day, received error "my fan is stuck". I've contacted Neato and we'll see if they process my unit.

I believe it would get confused often, doing the same room over again or going in circles. Sometimes it couldn't find it station and just keep going around until it died and I put it back on charger.

Unable to update it since my PC is Windows 8.1 - Wasn't ever able to update and see what that did.

Other Thoughts: I was really hopeful, never bought a refurbished item of this cost before, so was nervous. If they fix or replace the unit, I'd give it a higher rating, but since it didnt last and the guy on the phone said this is a Very Old unit, I can only give it 1 star.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: I'm amazed by how well this will navigate most obstacles in my house. I go out and when I come home it looks like I had a maid come and clean up. So impressed I've bought several as gifts for others. As for the other review saying it needs 3 charges to do a 400 Sq ft room this seems very different from my experience. It cleans my small apartment about 1k Sq ft in about an hour on a single charge.

Cons: There are a few issues. First or has trouble with some object which are lower than its laser turret and higher than its bumper it will often get stuck on these had to rearrange or block of some pieces of furniture because of this. My only other complaint is there seems to be very little uniformity in the refurbishment process having ordered 3. One was nearly brand new with all the original stickers and the battery disconnected and such. Only one came with a manual and another one with the small tool, another came quite dirty. since all of them work and everything that was missing was not important it's not really a big deal. I just wonder how well they really check them out since half of them are plugged in out of the box and half aren't

2 out of 5 eggsIf weren't plague by bugs, it could be the best robot vacuum.

Pros: Powerful suction, picks up dust, hair, dirt particles better than Roomba.
Cleaning schematics are very good. Cleans very close to walls, corners and furniture.
Cleans fast, like I would clean, straight overlapping lines.
HEPA filter to block out allergens
Easy to remove brush roll to remove hair.
Could setup schedule cleaning.
It does returns to its charging base when battery is low, then goes back to cleaning.

Cons: Too many bugs/errors on a finished product.
-‘My vision was blocked. Please press OKAY (3000)’
-‘Please press OK to restart. Battery issue (0002).’
-‘Cleaning suspended while charging’ in middle of room away from charger.
-‘Please wait while I recover my position’. I waited and it failed to recover its position.
Even under warranty you will have to pay to get the unit repair.
Batteries do not whole charge and degrade very fast.
Sometimes it cannot find recharging station right in front of it.
It get stuck by itself in the middle of a room and start going in circles like a drunk.
It could clean better with edge cleaning brush to reach corners and floor edge.
It should come with a remote control or a way to control it with an app.
Taller than Roomba so it might not be able to clean under some furniture (sofa).

Other Thoughts: If you review this machine during the first months you will give 4 or 5 stars.
I waited several months to post a review since it appears that after 4 months or so bugs start to show up.
I purchased this unit so my wife would clean less during her pregnancy. Well it did not last so I became the vacuum.
Roomba is more reliable unit.

3 out of 5 eggsNice but I prefer the Roomba

Pros: This is a sophisticated robot sporting programmable scheduler, a laser mapping function and a powerful suction motor. This provides you with a set and forget device which will go out and clean your space several times a week.

The Neato's suction motor is much stronger than a Roomba's. As a result, it will clean your carpets almost as well, if not as well as a regular vacuum cleaner.
The laser scanning and room mapping function is quite impressive to see. It will "look about" and plot a efficient path about your room.

The Neato is easy to clean and to maintain. You won't need to fuss about dismantling and cleaning brushes and wheels like you would with a Roomba

We have a beagle in the house, and the Neato's new pet brush will effectively pick up all the dander and hair from your floors and carpets.

It's a treat to come home to a clean place. Awesome purchase at this price.

Cons: It's strong vacuum motor is much louder than the Roomba's. But that shouldn't be a problem if you program it to go out and clean while you're away. However, a more powerful motor draws more juice from the battery, so it has to come back to base and recharge 2 or more times to complete a 400 sq. ft. living room.

The mapping function will sometimes work against it. Whereas the Roomba just bumps its way blindly about the room and figure its way about through dumb luck, the Neato will get confused by furniture and walls. I've had mine stop in its tracks and complain that it's blocked by a staircase step leading up while having 3 to 4 feet of clear space all around it.

The Neato's dust bin is much smaller that the Roomba's Aerovac dustbin and needs to be emptied after each job. (The Roomba's original dustbin is nowhere near as good at picking up pet hairs compared to the newer Aerovac bin which also holds much much more).

The Neato doesn't clean edges as well as the Roomba. This is because the Roomba has a rotating sidebrush which the Neato lacks. Therefore, pet hairs around baseboards and furniture feet won't always get picked up.

The Neato's barrier strips are ugly and clumsy and seem like an afterthought. As impressive as this little vacuum is, the barrier strips seem so 20th century in comparison. This is a far cry from the Roomba's wireless walls and lighthouses.

Other Thoughts: The Neato will effectively clean a room for you. It's loudness makes you want to send it out while you're away, but it will sometimes get stuck and need attention on your return.

Neither the Roomba, nor the Neato will remove the need to deep clean your place with a regular vacuum, but they will greatly reduce the frequency to do it though.

4 out of 5 eggsROBO VAC

Pros: The product shipped fast, and was in new condition, could not tell it was a refurb. Charged the battery and it started cleaning.

Cons: There are a few problem area in my house that it will occasionally get stuck on. one is under my entertainment center...sometimes gets jammed up. the other is under a chair that has a weird leg system, it tries to climb over the legs...but get stuck.

Other Thoughts: I have 3 dogs and the hair from them accumulates very quickly. I have this set to clean every day. The bin is small and needs to be emptied everyday. I only paid $180 for this and I am quick happy with it. It has definitely cut down on how often I need to clean. I don't think it would be worth full retail price. I have hardwood floors for the most part. But it seems to do fine on the carpet in the bed room as well.

5 out of 5 eggsNeato-XV 21 is the best

Pros: Cleans well' make sure that you have the latest firmware update which eliminates the perimeter not being vacuumed properly. I paid more from another site; GET this Deal!

Cons: Battery, but acceptable for the low cost....besides it runs when one no one is you care if it takes two or three recharge breaks?

Other Thoughts: Can't wait for the next gen of Neato robots...what a pleasant surprise how sophisticated certificated that they are. A steal for less than $200 bucks!!!!
