4 out of 5 eggsDecent for smoothies

Pros: I bought this for the sole purpose of making smoothies, but I've used it for a mix of things now. It does very well with frozen bananas, guacamole and bread crumbs. It also does a good job of crushing ice cubes into snow cone-quality ice chunks. Snow cone-quality ice chunks, however are still too grainy for a proper smoothie. It is better to freeze the fruit/juice to provide your smoothie with the source of ice slush.

Cons: The top-loading design can be cumbersome, since you have to remove both the motor and the cap every time you need to add more items. If you pour with the lid off rather than using the spout, remember to remove the blade first since it is not fastened onto the container. Otherwise, your blade will come tumbling out. Lastly, once you remove the blade, there's no good way to put the blade back in without first empty the contents of the container. For example, if you crush ice, take out the blade, then decide you want the nice a bit finer, there is no way of pushing your blade back in against all the ice already in the container. You'll have to take the contents out before you can put the blade back.

Other Thoughts: Despite the cons, it is still a decent blender. The 400W is low for a blender, but sufficient for everything I've thrown at it.

If you frequent places like Jamba Juice, look up some online recipes. The quality is not nearly that of a Vitamix-blended smoothie, but it'll come close for much less money.
