1 out of 5 eggsbring back the older model

Pros: NONE - except that as always, NEWEGG was prompt with delivery, far exceeding its stated time frame. I continue to feel confident that NEWEGG is my top Web retailer. But Lasko has fallen from favor.

Cons: THis model replaced a previous reversible fan by Lasko which is no longer made but which worked far more efficiently. The earlier version had less plastic and more propeller action. The current model contains too much housing, thereby blocking air flow. It moves less air than its predecessor and mostly just makes noise. Neither the draw nor the exhaust equal the power of the earlier model. Don't waste your money. This fan offers considerable hype but little return. Plus - the construction is amazingly flimsy. I foolishly placed my faith in a company that used to make all its products in the U.S.A.

Other Thoughts: Although it is tiresome to keep turning a box fan around so as to create drawn or exhaust, the result is better than what you get with this overbuilt Lasko convertible fan. Lasko still makes a decent box fan and a decent floor fan.

4 out of 5 eggspulls plenty of air

Pros: Moves LOTS of air. I am using it to exhaust warm air at night from a single room. Cool air pours in the other window. Works perfectly for this application.

Reasonably quiet even on high speed (but see cons, below).

Cons: Mine makes a "help, I'm going to fall apart" chopping sound at low speed (it's fine at medium and high). I was able to stop the noise by taking the housing apart and putting it back together with the fan assembly rotated sixty degrees. Seems as if the motor wasn't quite balanced in the original position. Not a big deal, but it should not have been necessary for me to do this.

Other Thoughts: My apartment has no a/c and I rely on cool nights to cool it down. Since I installed this fan the temperature inside drops much faster. Much improved over the box fans I was using before.

Expensive fan, but compared to a/c this is a real bargain. If I did have a/c, this would help me run it more efficiently as other reviewers have said. Definitely worth the cost.

5 out of 5 eggsworks very well

Pros: After suffering for years in our capes upstairs dormers we finnally found the solution. Air conditioners just took to long to cool the 22X12 bedroom without running them 4 hours before bedtime. Just exhaust the air a couple of hours before bedtime then turn the dial to bring fresh air in. You get the ambient outside temperature in a hour and this cools the entire upstairs at a nice inexpensive price. Be warned if the outdoor temperature drops to under 70 during the night you will be cold. Very nice like sleeping outdoors.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: May buy another one for our living quarters to exhaust the air all day. We exhuasted the air upstairs all day and it was 7 degrees cooler all day downstairs.

4 out of 5 eggsGood fan

Pros: I've had this same fan for over 3 years now,works great! Very Quit on low and medium speed. Forget high speed unless you like living in a wind tunnel! LOL

Cons: Not made in the U.S.A.

Other Thoughts: Not hard to take apart and clean. I will not name the place I got it for twenty dollars less,but it was 3 years ago. But it is still less than here. If Newegg drops the price to under sixty dollars I'll buy one from here. With free shipping that is.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best -- indeed one of the only -- whole-house window fans on the market these days!

Pros: * Cost-efficient to operate - this fan moves 2470 CFM (cubic feet of air per minute) on only 90 watts - compare that with the larger 20" model (Air King model #9166) which moves 3560 CFM on 170 watts - an 89% power increase for just a 44% airflow increase...makes sense to just buy two of these 16" Lasko 2155A/Air King 9155 units instead...you get twice the airflow, not 44% more - and you get it for only ten watts more
* Moves a LOT of air - more than a 20" box fan, more than anything sold at Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowe's, Ace Hardware, True Value, the drugstore, or anywhere else I looked
* Fused 3-prong grounded safety plug
* Versatile installation options
* 3 speeds instead of 2 or just on/off
* Electrically reversible for intake and exhaust - a big plus, since I want to be able to exhaust hot air during the day and then reverse it to bring in cool air at night...without having to de-install it and manually flip the whole unit around like you do with some other' brands fan

Cons: * Switch knob kept popping off...had to tighten up the screws under it and then put a dab of Krazy Glue on it (but that solved it)

Other Thoughts: This Lasko model 2155A window fan - also sold as the Air King model 9155 - is a real blessing for me. I live in the deep South (Georgia) where the oppressive summer heat index (high heat + near-100%-humidity) often reaches into the 130s and above - and I don't have air conditioning. For me, a large whole-house window fan like this one makes all the difference between comfort and living hell when July and August roll around (it's July 27th as I write this, and I'm sitting right next to the window with the fan in it). This is truly a WHOLE-HOUSE window fan, and it costs so much less to operate than an air conditioner. Compared with central A/C, I'm saving over a hundred dollars a month, which is over $600 a year EVERY YEAR. That's money better spent elsewhere! With this high-volume fan, I get my whole house cooled, without the $150+ monthly electricity usage of central A/C. This fan paid for itself in the first month.
