5 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: cooks eggs. my brother and mom say boiled eggs are easier to peel if cooked with this rather than actually boiling them.

Cons: it could be made of tougher stuff but i guess it's not bad for the price. the egg rack cracked on mine. seems like someone shoved something into it and the cooker got mashed between the wall and whatever they were shoving around the counter. kind of common sense but don't treat it rough and it should last a while.

Other Thoughts: when i first got it it seemed to need a few trial runs before the water levels indicated were what it actually needed.

1 out of 5 eggsWorks great until it breaks

Pros: It cooks great eggs without any intervention. I've cooked both hard-boiled and poached eggs in it and they always turned out good.

Cons: The plastic egg tray is falling apart. Stress fractures from heating and cooling I guess. I've owned this cooker for just about a month and use it a couple times a week, so it really shouldn't be failing already.

The poaching tray cups are a bit small - they just barely hold the eggs I normally buy and can imagine that extra large eggs would spill over. This is fine for me but may be an issue for others.

Other Thoughts: You add water to the cooker, which is then heated to steam to cook the eggs. The timing is completely based on how fast the water boils off.

4 out of 5 eggsOK at poaching eggs

Pros: Does a nice job of poaching eggs. The boiled egg tray cracked in normal use. I sent West Bend customer service a picture of the cracked tray and the invoice and they quickly sent me a new one. Didn't have to return. There was something wrong with the tray because it continued to crack. But Good Customer Service.

Cons: The non-stick poaching pan sticks unless you use a lot of oil. A large egg fills the pan to the brim (especially with a lot of oil) and if you spill any in the bottom you must clean it all out. If you don't get it all, the poacher heats up too soon, turns off, and the egg isn't done.

4 out of 5 eggsJust a little experimenting

Pros: Works well. Although you have to experiment a little to determine how much water is needed.

Cons: The plastic and thin metal of the poached egg insert do not have the highest quality feel to them.

Other Thoughts: Got this on sale for $14.99 and figured for that price even it was worthless I wasn't out anything. Makes poached eggs fine although to get the centers the way I liked them I had disregard the measuring device and experiment with the amount of water I use.

As others have mentioned it is worth spraying the poached egg insert with no-stick spray. Once I figured out the water the eggs come out perfectly. I use grade-A large eggs and they fit fine. Haven't made hard boiled eggs yet so I can't comment on that operation. But I was looking for something to do poached eggs quickly without the hassle of trying to do them in a pot on the stove top.

As mentioned the unit doesn't have the highest quality feel, but for less than $15 I am not complaining.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor quality, poorly designed, defective, huge disappointment

Pros: Cooked eggs perfectly, easy to use, too bad the plastic base for cooking eggs inside FALLS APART after one month!

Cons: Plastic part for holding eggs during hard boiling or for holding egg poacher during poaching completely fell apart into pieces, disintegrated after less than one month of normal daily use. Followed all manufacturer instructions for cooking and cleaning. Previously had considered West Bend to be a reputable kitchen appliance brand, will never purchase another West Bend product again.

Other Thoughts: Anyone can tell that the plastic part should be made out of metal or some other material besides plastic, because the heat used in cooking eggs causes the plastic piece to fall apart. I find it personally insulting that the manufacturer would sell this product to the public since it doesn't hold together after one month of normal use.
