Hamilton Beach 40898 Silver 8 Cup Cordless Kettle

Pros: It looks great. I followed the cleaning and preparation instructions. It worked well enough to heat three pots of water. Newegg product delivery was very good.

Cons: After following the instructions for preparation for use, the base unit now trips the GFC! outlets in my kitchen, indicating a potentially dangerous ground fault. It seems that the base unit is defective. Contacted Hamilton Beach (HB) customer support, they sent me a pre-paid UPS pick-up label. I sent the appliance back to HB for warranty repair/replacement, still awaiting outcome.

Other Thoughts: Anticipating prompt warranty service from the manufacturer.

Pros: The Kettle works as advertised. Average boiling time for full kettle is under 5 minutes. The surface is not cold but not very hot either.

Cons: None

Pros: This kettle looks great, heats up water quickly, and especially I love how the top gives complete access to the interior.

Cons: The lid's latching mechanism that lets it rotate open doesn't allow the lid to be shut without pressing the release button.
Setting it on the base doesn't feel 100% sold. I think this is mostly because its diameter is smaller than the body of the kettle.

Other Thoughts: This is a very versitile kettle which will see plenty of use in my kitchen boiling eggs, heating stock, soups, hydrating dried foods, and so on... the open lid is what makes it so versitile.
The side does get a little warm, but less than the last kettle I had did, which was a single layer of plastic.
