1 out of 5 eggsBetter to get a $9 Mr. Coffee

Pros: None. Seriously none.

I purchased this coffee pot because my grandmother lives with us. She loves a cup of coffee, but is too unsteady to use a glass carafe on her own. I thought the press and serve design of the Hamilton Beach coffee makers would be a good solution. The push and serve concept in this scenario is pretty much the only bonus here.

Cons: The first unit I purchased was a Brewstation Deluxe model 47454 with a rounded serving area. This unit worked well, but first the carafe started to leak. Months after it's replacement the heating element started to fail. I received this unit christmas of 2009 to replace the previous model. Unfortunately over 6 months we discovered how inferior this unit was to the previous.

1) The nozel is too far back on the carafe. Even very basic mugs spill everywhere if you're not exactly positioned. Keeping the counter clean is a nightmare with this thing!
2) The standard filter holder that came with the deluxe won't fit this model. The filter holder wasn't provided and is considered an extra.
3) The 'clear window' that shows the level of the coffee stains solidly within a couple of months of use. I try to keep the unit clean but this is almost impossible even with the recommended maintenance or even using a SOS pad.
4) The carafe will fail just after a year and leak... (cont.)

Other Thoughts: Continued from 'Cons'
The carafe will fail just after a year and leak out of the bottom back into the unit. Meaning your 'clean' water intake is now full of used coffee. Rinsing this out is a hastle, and replacement of the carafe is $14.99 on their website.

I've had $9 Mr coffee machines in the past that were far more reliable, and of better build quality. Unless you require something with the push to pour feature stay away from Hamilton Beach Brewstations. If you require something like this look for the Deluxe or older standard model that have the rounded mug area. This model is a poor design.

3 out of 5 eggsWhoa... this one IS NOT great

Pros: It makes a great pot of coffee... despite its numerous shortcomings.

The digital controls are staight-forward and very easy to set.

Cons: 1. The electrical cord is far too short, only about 2-feet long.

2. The water filter, the standard model filter that is recommended for most all of the Brewstation models, is too tall, and the filter module does not fit snuggly into the receptacle in the bottom of the water reservoir.

3. The coffee outlet spout is too close to the outlet push-bar. A thick-walled mug will have the user spilling coffee when trying to fill it.

4. My model 47214 Brewstation would fully hold 72-ozs of water. This model 48464 holds only about 66-ozs of water without leaking water onto the counter top. Yet, both units are listed as "12-cup."

Other Thoughts: It is a very nice looking unit.... but was poorly thought out in the fine details.

Would I purchase this model again? .... no, No... NO.
