5 out of 5 eggsthird one

Pros: This is the third brew station we have owned. The first died about a month ago after making two pots per day for 14 years. The "caraffe" was leaking and not from the spiguet. We got a new one about a month ago and I simply could not resist getting this one from Newegg at a bargain price as a gift (probably).

We have owned lots of coffee makers. This is the best. On the new ones, there is a "bold" option. What it simply does is allow the hot water to brew in the grounds a bit longer and it makes an oustanding cup of coffee from the lowest store brands of coffee. It does a remarkable job with my own ground starbucks, but wifey thinks it is too strong, so I only get it once in a while.

Cons: nada

Other Thoughts: Many people I have read complain about water dripping all over the place. I suspect these are the same people I see driving these days.

Anyway, there is a weep hole in the back of the unit that prevents you from over-filling with water. However, even if you do not over-fill, it will splash out the back and down the sides if you move the unit about. What I did was tape over the weep hole, vowing to myself never ever to over-fill the bottom receptacle with water. It appears to work well for wifey.

4 out of 5 eggsBPA Free?

Pros: Makes good coffee, and doesn’t burn it.

Cons: Takes ~22 minutes for 12 cups. Cups are 5 oz., so don’t expect an unending flow of brown stuff . . . Yes, it dribbles a bit of condensation while brewing, but not a big deal.

Other Thoughts: No info as to whether plastics in this are free of BPA. Not in user guide or box. Hamilton Beach website did not list as current (it was hard to find.) While there I found all current models prominently tout “BPA Free” on box graphics and manuals. Odd . . .

HB support responded that all their products since 2009 are BPA free. But, this model was first manufactured in 2007! HB added that the series # on it indicates it was made Mar. 2011.

Generally, manufacturers didn’t start restricting BPA use until late 2009, mainly involving child-related products, such as baby bottles.

It seems odd that HB would update materials in this model to be free of BPA, but not update any literature or packaging to reflect that, since they prominently claim to be BPA free in current models. It also seems odd that they would alter parts in for a 2 yr. old design rather than discontinue it, incorporating BPA free design only on new models forward.

HB’s final answer: BPA free. Unless proven otherwi

5 out of 5 eggsGreat CoffeeMaker

Pros: Hot coffee. Programmable. Auto turn off. Easy to use and clean. Very cool device. Terrific bargain. Can function as alarm clock too.

Cons: Drips a few drops of clear water into drip plate when starting. It's a little noisy, thus it can work as your alarm clock. These are very minor issues really.

Other Thoughts: I have had this for 4 months. I was afraid the coffee would not be hot enough. It is hot. Newegg Rocks.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Cup of Coffee

Pros: I love this coffee maker! Have used both the small (1-4 cups) option and the regular option and both brew very fast. Can be programmed if you know what time you will want it ready. Very clean and easy to use, just stick your cup under the spout and hot fresh tasting coffee automatically comes out. Very easy to clean.

Cons: After I move it back to it's storage area, there is a small puddle of water under the coffee maker...No big deal, just wipe it up. Could just be condensation from the heat since it is just clear water.

Other Thoughts: You can't go wrong with this coffee maker...so much easier than the kind with a glass pot. The coffee stays fresh and hot for up to 4 hours (you set the length of time you want it to stay hot). Nice big display, very stylish design.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome coffee maker

Pros: This is by FAR the best coffee maker I've ever owned or used.

I've had just about every brand out there, from a $30 Mr. coffee, to a $150 Bunn, but this thing puts them all to shame.

Not only does it make a great cup of coffee, but it keeps it hot for longer period of time, without getting that "burnt" taste that all the others seem to end up with if you keep them on for a long time.

My favorite feature has to be that it also makes iced coffee. Great for those hot days of summer.

And again, the flavor is outstanding!

Cons: I can't figure out how it works! lol

Most drip coffee makers are easy to figure out. Water heats up, flows up and drips into the grounds.

As far as I can figure, this thing uses magic. Yep, you read right. Magic.

There aren't any tubes for the water to go through, as far as I can tell without taking it apart, and yet it still brews awesome coffee!

Other Thoughts: If anyone knows how the heck it does it, please let me know!
