AM/FM PLL Synthesized Tuning Atomic Clock Radio

The popular Sangean RCR-2 clock radio combines the best alarm clock functions with convenient footprint design and Sangean radio technology. The RCR-2 is a radio-controlled clock available for DCF/WWVB/MSF/JJY functions. Its PLL-synthesized FM tuning makes it an ideal choice for pleasant radio listening or alarm notifications by the bedside.

The large illuminated LCD screen gives you all the vital information such as time, date, day of the week, sleep, wake times, naptime, and radio information. Separate adjustable nap and sleep timers with a Humane Wake System (HWS) make sure you get the wake-up message. The alarm system's weekday selector allows you to select individual days for alarm activation. The clock radio is silver with a modern and sleek footprint, and will offer years of dependable operation.

LCD Display
An easy-to-read LCD display shows you station and time as well as other information. The segment-style LCD screen measures 3.11in. x 1.46in., and is backlit to be easy to see even across the room.

Alarm with Humane Wake System
The RCR-2 features an alarm with the option of setting individual days for alarms to sound. The radio alarm turns on your favorite station at a predetermined time. There's also a Humane Wake System (HWS) buzzer alarm, which wakes you up gradually with an incrementally increasing alarm instead of a harsh, instant noise. Other alarm functions include a Snooze function and adjustable nap and sleep timers.

Convenient Radio Functions
PLL synthesized tuning provides exact, fade-free reception. 14 memory presets - seven AM and seven FM - station-selections are available and easily visible in the large LCD display.

  • 14 Memory Preset Stations (Seven FM, Seven AM)
  • Radio-Controlled Clock Available for DCF / WWVB / MSF / JJY

3 out of 5 eggspoor instructions

Pros: Excellent reception. I live in a valley 60 miles from Philadelphia. All I could ever get was noise from a local rock station. This is the first radio I found that pulls in out of town stations clearly.

Cons: Poor display. You have to be looking straight at the screen to read it.
Very poor instructions. Must have been written in China by someone who failed English. I had to call the manufacturer's USA office to get translations.

Pros: Great appearance ..outstanding alarm system

Cons: no better radio reception than my cheap clock radio.. I am very disappointed..

Other Thoughts: I possibly should have discussed my needs with "NEWEGG" before I bought this model...

4 out of 5 eggsGood and Reliable

Pros: Solidly built, automatically sets time (takes a while first time); nice options for alarm settings -- weekdays, weekends, daily -- gradually increases alarm to wake up

Cons: Display is not real clear to read time

Other Thoughts: tried several "cheap" clock radios... they fell apart quickly.

5 out of 5 eggsNice Clock Radio

Pros: Flexible alarms
Compact size
Auto clock set
The Human Waking System (HWS)

Cons: Display is a little too bright at night.
Limited viewing angle

Other Thoughts: The only two display options are on or off. A way to dim the display at night would be nice.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Alarm Radio

Pros: This clock radio has a number of great features that are difficult to find together in a single product. The dual 7-day alarm allows you to set 2 different alarm times and select the exact days you want the alarm to wake you. For example, if you want to wake at a given time on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays with a different time on Mondays and Thursdays, this alarm will do that. It also has a great buzzer alarm that starts soft and gradually becomes louder and more insistent.

The radio-controlled clock has its own antenna that can be positioned for good reception ensuring that it will always be accurate with a second or two and that it will always adjust properly for daylight savings time (even if they change it again).

The audio is very good for a clock radio. The settings and controls for the alarm functions are not intuitive but are easy enough to figure out with the manual.

This alarm will probably do anything you need it to do.

Cons: Viewing angle issue:

The one potential problem with this alarm is a viewing angle issue with the display. It has a nice LCD display that reads very clearly if you viewing it from the same level or lower. However, if you try to read the display from a position above the clock the digits become dim and distorted. This is enough of a problem that you should not purchase this alarm if your bed is higher than your nightstand or other surface where the alarm will be located (even by a few inches). As long as the alarm is sitting on a surface that is level with or higher than your viewing position, the display will be crisp and clear.

Other Thoughts: Note that this item has a "no return" policy so make sure read about the viewing angle issue above.

4 out of 5 eggsi only bought this for the radio & headphone port

Pros: so heres the deal, i didnt really need anything from this radio outside of it needing to be somewhat small & get better then acceptable reception from AM stations in my office cubicle

well, im happy... it doesnt get the greatest reception but it is good enough to not drive me nuts with overwhelming static

Cons: i cant bring myself to take more then 1 egg away since its a very nice product...

the radio & aux/headphone jack were really the only things i needed to work up to my standards & they are doing just that...

although its not as good as streaming the radio, its good enough for my situation & that all i wanted

Other Thoughts: the reason i pulled the trigger on this unit over comparible cheaper units is because of the deal newegg had on it (& the good couple reviews that this item had)

but i cant lie, i was pretty nervous spending around $50 on a clock radio just for the radio part to work decently... i feel i lucked out though... i have had 2 other radios @ my cubicle & none of them gets the reception this one does

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Alarm Clock

Pros: I love the ability to turn on and of the display.
The speakers are fantastic clear for an alarm clock. As far as reception there, just like Steely Dan says, is no static at all!
Sure the nap button will come in handy.
AM is fantastic because am able to listen poor reception stations clearly. Which is great because I can catch my Twins Games crystal clear!

Cons: Difficult to program daily alarm, and haven't figure out how to have gradual alarm yet. But I am sure I will learn how

Other Thoughts: IF you want a high quality Radio Alarm clock, w/0 ipod dock. Do not hesitate to get this one. Great deal for just 50 bucks

4 out of 5 eggsUltimate Alarm Clock Radio

Pros: Great AM reception which was my primary goal but FM is awesome as well. Atomic clock means time is always set right automatically. Excellent sound for it's size. Ability to set each of two alarms by day of week (work days vs weekend?). Nice amber backlight which can easily be turned off. "Humane" waking system starts the alarm softly then gradually gets loader (and you can adjust maximum loudness). Physical design makes it easy to find buttons by touch, even in the dark.

Cons: Kind of tricky setting the alarm and instructions aren't real clear, referring to buttons by number rather than description.

Other Thoughts: Well designed. Best alarm clock radio I ever owned.
