4 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Not too noisy, not too heavy, excellent cooling.

Cons: Slow fan speeds, cheap appearance

Other Thoughts: I was given this a/c by a friend who "upgraded" to a 8000 btu portable model (not a Haier). I installed it in my bedroom window (12 x 14 ft south facing) and was amazed by how much cooler it got my room than ANY other a/c I have ever owned. I prefer my room to be grocery store beer-room cool and this unit gets it near that. It takes quite awhile to get there though - probably due to the low BTU rating and slowish fan speeds, but on extremely hot days I can set the dial to about 3/4 of the way up and it keeps it very comfortable. The overall fit and finish of the case looks very cheap like unfinished PVC plastic but it could look like hell as long as it works as well as it does. From the other reviews I may have just lucked out with this unit!

4 out of 5 eggsCheap A/C

Pros: Cools a 10x15 room pretty well. Not super fast but reasonable time (I'd say about 30mins to bring it around low 70's).

Cheap was around 85 when I bought it on sale. Good price for this hot summer

Cons: The rear of this unit does not have drain holes. I know they say don't drill any holes however, if you live in a very humid area then you may just want to make a very small hole in the back to allow the water to drain. Or tilt it a little more then recommended (would not advise doing this unless you are very good at it). So you will start to get water buildup quick on a humid hot day.

The fan rattles when it starts up but goes away once it reaches its maximum rpm and starts to cool.

Other Thoughts: The fan is noisy but not bad. You can definitely have a conversation with someone else without it bothering too much.

The unit started to get some excessive water inside so the fan started to make the water hitting the fan noise. However, once I tilted it more back the problem has been resolved.

Overall this is a good cheap unit to cool a small room or so. However, do not buy this unit if you want to set the fan speed to low and not be able to hear it. THIS WILL NOT DO THAT!

If you are looking for a A/C that will cool and not cost a whole lot. Then this is it. Since I only bought this for the guest room. I can handle the heat but my guests cannot.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your money

Pros: none

Cons: extremely noisy, leaks water, sounds like a washing machine swishing water inside, takes forever to cool, mine died after one season.

Other Thoughts: Spend a little bit more and get a better brand. I replaced this Haier with a GE after one season. The GE cost about $35 more but runs quieter and cools better.

2 out of 5 eggsI would look elsewhere

Pros: The air conditioner is small and it can cool a small room but those are really the only pro's to it.

Cons: Unfortunately there is a laundry list of complaints that I have with this device, and after owning it (and a few others of different brands for near the same amount of time) I can give a decent description as to why:
1. The knob for cooling adjustment is very touchy, if you set it too high (anything above 4) the cooling coils will freeze over after a few hours.
2. There is no drain in the bottom from the factory. This leads to the above issue as well as a few others but mainly...
3. Once it starts to collect water, both from normal operation and from rain, etc. the fan starts to hit the water and it makes quite loud noises, as any fan hitting water does.
4. If the fan is hitting water, it is usually spraying it around the room at the same time.
5. You pretty much have three settings with the device, cool the room to X temperature or warmer, fan only and off.

Other Thoughts: Don't get me wrong, I used this little air conditioner in my office and then my guest bedroom for 4-5 years. It did a mediocre job of cooling, though it did take a long time to get the room to temperature even with the door(s) closed.

If you can't afford the next step up airconditioner with a regular fan and a digital temp control that has a drain in the bottom, I would recommend this, but if you can hold out until the next level up, I would do so as you will get your money's worth.
