Pros: I picked this Haier unit because it was the smallest available. I live on a boat and just wanted to cool her off a bit during these miserable summer days when the humidity goes through the overhead.

Placed in my forward hatch, it made my cabin icy cold on 10. Ten is the highest setting.

However, even with a fan pulling cool air out of my cabin and blowing into my galley area, it was too hot mid-day to enjoy the main part of my boat.

Next I moved the a/c unit into the starboard side doorway. Now on 3 (sometimes 4 when it's 95+ degrees out) the galley stays cool and comfortable. At night, my cabin is sufficiently cool to be comfortable.

A large fan blowing into my cabin would be helpful but I gave it back when I realized hw comfy the main boat was at Setting 3. It shouldn't use much power either.

455 watts on high cool, which translates to 4 amps at 110 volt AC. I should be able to use this off the grid in the hottest part of the day with just my solar panels and wind generator.

And if not, I'll add a 1kw generator.
Oh, and I'm running her on Low Fan setting.

At $130, this was the least expensive 5000btu unit I could find, delivered. $60 for two more years warranty works out to $200 for two years. $2 a week. I like that.

Cons: If you don't set it level water will pool inside the back part of the unit and it won't cool well. Hardware is not stainless. Finding the Serial number was hard after installation (I should have written it down before putting it in)

Cord has an elongated plug so you have to put it at the end of your power inlet or it will block the other one.

Other Thoughts: I'm far more comfortable with the unit than prior. This is something I should have bought long ago. My happiness quotient has increased dramatically. Now though, I want it to run all the time. Because I live off the grid (in a miniature trawler) that's going to be complicated.

I would buy this particular Haier again. It has a dial versus digital controls. That means that it will work well even when power is wonky. Digital controls do allow for a remote. This unit has no remote.

Also, this one doesn't have a reverse cycle. I'll solve that by heading for the equator when it gets cold.
