4 out of 5 eggsFrom a pro: Excellent low-qty tool

Pros: Working the wiring harness industry for years. This is an excellent tool for low quantity crimp jobs (aka on-location termination). AMP makes a better large quantity tool, but it's not nearly as versatile.

Cons: The cutting side will not completely cut the wire the first time. That's OK because you should have a different tool for that (this is for in a pinch).

Other Thoughts: For the person who said they get crossed connections (shorts) with this tool: That is because you're using the wrong RJ45's for your wire type.

There are 2 types of RJ45 - One solid conductor, the other for stranded conductor.

There are 2 types of Cat5/Cat6 - Solid conductor and stranded conductor.

You need to use the right RJ45 for the wire you're using. Stranded is thicker and has larger openings for individual conductors, which if you use solid conductor wire then it can easily cross over if you're not very careful.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful

Pros: Looks like a good tool.

Cons: Can't cut or strip a cable properly to save my life with this thing. No matter how hard I press, the cutter part never completely cuts through and the stripper part is equally useless.

Whenever I try to crimp with it, I get two shorted pins every time without fail.

Other Thoughts: First time using it and it was on a job. Needless to say I wasn't at all happy with the results.

If I hadn't had my own crimper with me, I wouldn't have been able to complete my job. I can only wish I had the time back that I wasted trying to use this tool.

2 out of 5 eggsworst crimpers I've ever used

Pros: look nice, ratcheting

Cons: 1 out of every 3 RJ-45s crimp properly if you're lucky. The socket for RJ-45 leaves a slight amount of room for the connector to move. When you go to make the crimp, the teeth miss one or more pins, pushing it to the side instead of crimping it down, rendering the connector useless. You have to cut it off and try again.

Other Thoughts: At first I thought it was some cheap connectors that I bought, but I tried my co-workers connectors and it does the same thing. Also, I grabbed my co-worker's Ideal crimpers and they work perfectly. Don't buy these unless you want a lot of frustration.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: I've used many tools like this for work and bought this for personal use. It's the simply the best crimping tool I've used and rolls all the features you could want into one tool.

The cable insulation stripper works wonderfully and the ratcheting crimping mechanism lets you know when you're done by releasing. It's quick, easy, and comfortable to use.

This is the next best thing to not having to make cables. If you make more than 1 cable a week, you should get this tool.

Cons: Pricey, but on par with competing products.

Other Thoughts: The combo packs are quite a bargain.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Solid

Pros: A very solid tool. It has the latch to let you accurately strip wire and completely crimp your heads. (There's just something satisfying about the clicking sound you get). It has two types of blades: a double-blade for stripping and a single-blade for cutting. The blades are very sharp and work well. It's a heavy duty, hassle-free, comfortable high-quality tool.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you're an old pro or someone looking to save some cash by crimping your own cables, this tool should be the crimper you get.

What's important with a crimping tool is a good wire stripper, and this has a top-notch one. Unless you have one already DO NOT buy a cheaper tool! I promise you that trying to strip the sheathing from a CAT 5 cable with anything sub-standard (such as scissors) will only lead to bad cables and a LOT of frustration.

Lastly, don't forget to crimp the sheathing IN the head when you crimp, else your cable won't last long! Happy crimping!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works amazingly for stripping cables without knicking any wires. I literally had to try to knick the wire in order to do it. Crimps cables flawlessly and easily.

Cons: A tad pricy but well worth the cost.

Other Thoughts: I've used it to replace ends on a few cables and to make several cables so far and absolutely no problems with this product.
