Description

Description
Soleus' Space-saving unit cools, heats, dehumidifies, and fans all in one appliance. Includes VFD display technology for enhanced graphics and readability. Evaporative technology means there's no water bucket to empty. The optional single or dual exhaust hose is designed to efficiently cool, heat, or dehumidify any space with no permanent installation. Moves easily on heavy-duty caster wheels.

4-in-1 Technology Soleus' portable room air conditioner combines the function of a window air conditioner, dehumidifier, heater, air cleaner, and fan, saving you space and energy and is environmental friendly and energy saver, uses the compressor as source of heating and cooling.

Multi-Color VFD Display Unlike a LED display, a VFD display is an active device providing a brilliant, eye catching glow in a wide spectrum of colors.

No Water Tank to Empty Includes a built-in 60 pint dehumidifier. The collected moisture is recycled and eliminated through the exhaust duct. For extremely humid conditions, there is an emergency holding tank with a drainage port on the back to prevent potential water damage to carpet or floors.

'Smart Chip' Technology Features digital display on control panel and remote. Computer driven controls give you the ability to program exact settings from the unit or remote.

24 Hours Programmable Timer with Memory Soleus' unit only needs to be programmed once. The system remembers start/stop time, temperature, and other exact settings even if power is interrupted.

Energy Efficient Dual Motor Design One motor delivers cool air while the other motor cools the compressor and condenser. The collected condensation is distributed over the condenser by non-corrosive aluminum fan blades to keep the copper coils cool and the unit more efficient.

3 Speed Fan with Oscillation Recessed oscillating louvers prevent damage to the unit.

5 out of 5 eggsAdmirable heat pump warms cheaper than firewood!

Pros: I was compelled to write a factual review of this particular portable A/C unit. Buying a second for heating this winter, cooling is not so important even in the mid atlantic Southern Virginia area, whereas HEATING the same spaces during a cold winter can be costly. (I look forward to using this a s a dehumidifier though) Initial cost is much cheaper that going with a new whole home HVAC or even  Mitsubishi style  mini split heat pumps.

Cons: Their are many drawbacks and compromises that come from cramming the indoor/outside coils all in one package unit that sits inside. Placement can be ugly, and you need to plan for water drainage for both heating and cooling modes. Don't think you can use the internal "emergency" condensate tank long term ( I suspect naive new owners did and found their floors damp quickly). The best situation would be a nearby window or patio door, on a table, with a tube running out the sill for constant drainage and no worries.

Other Thoughts: oo many buyers must have unrealistic expectations based upon misunderstandings of refrigeration and the limits / compromises that must be made to implement such a product. One is water drainage. This Soleus unit includes a nice install kit including suction / discharge hoses. Its sensibly made, if not super high quality.

Ironically I recommend this unit more as a low cost space heater than an air conditioner unit.  Think twice before falling for the hype of those EdenPure electric resistance lamp heaters which make nothing but the standard 5000btus with 1500 watts of power.

This unit heats as a heat pump .... not electrical resistance as some other small A/C units use as emergency heat. (Resistance heat is costly 1:1 efficiency like  baseboard heat ....or any cheap old heater from Walmart. They are 1500watts typically which = about 5120 btus. Utilizing a reversing cycle, even an inefficient old style  heat pumps (as of 25years ago) are 2:1 power factor. And this can put out nearly the double the heat, up to 10,000 btus with only 1000watts! That means these are a good deal..but won't warm you up like a real fireplace or heat a large house or even a huge room. After all they are not using red hot coils or burning fuel.....They are cheap to run and great supplemental  heat though, an mine is as I write blowing about 85 degrees as it's 37 outside....not bad at all. In this cold, it is frequently and properly entering the defrost cycle which keeps its coil free of frost (and drips water).

Of portable A/C & heat pump designs ....there are three basic types  .....ONE hose and TWO hose units , and those that can function as EITHER.. This model is the last, and most flexible version which I recommend. Though less efficient in one hose mode :( it creates a slight vacuum in the room but sucking in ...and blowing out inside air, sometimes in someplaces one hose is just fine!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks just fine

Pros: Haven't tried the heating part yet but the cooling part works just fine. A friend used my two portables to cool her home over a long holiday weekend when her central A/C broke.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy a portable with only one hose. Buy ONLY the two hose portables. World of difference in them.

4 out of 5 eggsCools & Heats Great

Pros: Cools our computer room in the summer
Helps cool the entire 1100 sq. ft. apartment when we have guests over on hot days
Helps warms the apartment through the coldest parts of winter
Dehumidifier works great
I tested the fan just to see if that mode worked but I never use it on fan mode
The wheels seem very sturdy and make it pretty easy to move it, even on carpet.
It blows very cold air
Can be modded to look like a Class M-3 Model B9, Robby, or a Dalek

Cons: The louvers open automatically when the unit is turned on but mine gets stuck about half way open. The top louver catches on something inside the unit on the right side so I have to help it open every time. It closes all the way with no problem. It does not evenly distribute air through its opening, about 75% of the air it pushes out comes from the right side. The vent exhaust hose gets Very Hot and should be insulated. The Window attachment for the hoses should be more sturdy and should also be insulated. The intake/exhaust hoses should come with some kind of screen to help filter bugs. IMO the louvers should aim the air up more. I don't like/use the oscillate mode. Even with all these cons I've listed I still like the overall effectiveness of this unit, so I took off one egg.

Other Thoughts: The central AC in my 2nd floor apartment, which has HUGE windows and a black roof, just isn't enough for hot days. We have gaming sessions at least once a week with up to 8 people, and the computer room has 2 gaming systems which produce a lot of heat while gaming, so we put this AC in the computer room. This unit totally cools the gaming room and helps keeps the entire apartment cool when we have guests over. Our complex does not allow window units and the windows slide open from right to left anyway so this kind of unit was our best option. The computer room has a balcony with sliding doors that stand just under 7 ft. tall and the window attachment still fits with a few inches to spare. Had this for over a year now and it has never leaked. I had to put weather striping on the sides of the window attachment to get rid of gaps. I bought the foam strip but still had to use duct tape to get a complete seal. I recommend a more flexible weather strip like rubber with the D Profile.

5 out of 5 eggs12 days in - SO FAR SO GOOD!

Pros: This review is after ONLY 12 full days of use so keep this in mind when reading it. But so far I see zero issues with the unit. I have checked frequently to see if there is any water leakage and so far none. It has been on for about 14 hours per day for 12 days. It gets cold!!!! I was surprised since it is a R-410A unit. Keep in mind I have a Kill-A-Watt meter in line with this unit and it draws every bit of 10 Amps in cooling mode. This is one of the downsides to the R-410A. My 4 year old (R-22) LG window unit (10,000 BTU) only draws 7 Amps. But the compressor is very quiet!!! I have to look at the display to see when it running. I love the dual vent system so that I'm not displacing my cool air in the room with warm air from some leaky window!!! This is the primary reason I choose this unit over others for less money.

Cons: None that are a deal breaker. The remote is a little hokey. It has an LCD display on the remote which is cool except for if you turn on the unit via the top controls and then decide to make a change on the remote, the remote will set the unit to whatever is on the display. Example; the remote says 65 degrees and Auto Fan. The unit is set to 75 and HI FAN via the top control panel. If you decide to raise the temp to 78 via the remote, you are going to have to push the temp + 13 times because the remote was at 65 instead of just 3 times because the remote display want to match the unit display. In other words, it's NOT a two way communication between the remote and unit. But that's all I can complain about so that's not bad.

Other Thoughts: Great unit, I recommend it!

4 out of 5 eggsProbably Will Leak but works well

Pros: Excellent cooling, heating and other usage.

Cons: May Leak and is a bit loud at times.

Other Thoughts: My unit did indeed leak as some others have stated, around the actual drain plug. I am quite good at general repairs so i decided to open the unit. This model uses a pump to push the water over the heating plate to evaporate it out the exhaust system. The problem occurs when the tube from the pump becomes disconnected, i think they have a weak clamp. I took the clamp off bent it so it was vastly tighter and reapplied it, i have had no issues since, its been about 5-6 months now and i use it often.

4 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby

Pros: >Cools well
>hasn't leaked like everyone who hates it said it would
>good price
>fast shipping

Cons: >noisey- you definitely know this sucker is running
>fan speed display is kind of confusing when going from high to auto-there is no difference in what is displayed unless you use the remote because it shows you in words not some wannabe hifi volume display bar graph

Other Thoughts: >I'm planning to install a foam type filter on the suction from outside. Instead of sucking in every bug who wanders near it
