Portable Air Conditioner
Cooling / Heating / Fan / Dehumidifying
Single Zone

Soleus' Space-saving unit cools, heats, dehumidifies, and fans all in one appliance. Includes VFD display technology for enhanced graphics and readability. Evaporative technology means there's no water bucket to empty. The optional single or dual exhaust hose is designed to efficiently cool, heat, or dehumidify any space with no permanent installation. Moves easily on heavy-duty caster wheels.

4-in-1 Technology Soleus' portable room air conditioner combines the function of a window air conditioner, dehumidifier, heater, air cleaner, and fan, saving you space and energy and is environmental friendly and energy saver, uses the compressor as source of heating and cooling.

Multi-Color VFD Display Unlike a LED display, a VFD display is an active device providing a brilliant, eye catching glow in a wide spectrum of colors.

No Water Tank to Empty Includes a built-in 60 pint dehumidifier. The collected moisture is recycled and eliminated through the exhaust duct. For extremely humid conditions, there is an emergency holding tank with a drainage port on the back to prevent potential water damage to carpet or floors.

'Smart Chip' Technology Features digital display on control panel and remote. Computer driven controls give you the ability to program exact settings from the unit or remote.

24 Hours Programmable Timer with Memory Soleus' unit only needs to be programmed once. The system remembers start/stop time, temperature, and other exact settings even if power is interrupted.

Energy Efficient Dual Motor Design One motor delivers cool air while the other motor cools the compressor and condenser. The collected condensation is distributed over the condenser by non-corrosive aluminum fan blades to keep the copper coils cool and the unit more efficient.

3 Speed Fan with Oscillation Recessed oscillating louvers prevent damage to the unit.

4 out of 5 eggs5 years and still going

Pros: 5 years and still working, it is used all year, summer for AC winter for heat.

Cons: You need to service at the beginning of every cooling season and once in the middle if you are not going to hook it up to a drain. Oh and one year the float got stuck or something and flooded the floor. Most of the time when the evaporative system does not keep up I connect a small hand pump to the drain hole and just pump it into a bucket.
Hoses start splitting and get brittle for the venting, they are 5.5 in, this year I purchased 6in insulated hosing and duct taped it together.

Other Thoughts: For service take the housing off and clean the slime off of the radiator, water tray, pump and remove the plastic tray above the radiator and unclog the drip holes. I like doing this at the best at the beginning of cooling season because everything is all dry and flaky instead of slimy and vacuums up.

2 out of 5 eggsLoud, Poor craftsmanship

Pros: It will cool down a room quickly.

Cons: cumbersome set up; must use window vents and slotted fitting which cannot be cut easily. EXTREMELY LOUD!

Other Thoughts: It seems like my unit was banged around by UPS while in transit. I had a local UPS store accept the deliver and the box didn't look too damaged. However it was clear from the plastic housing that something wasn't aligned properly. It runs extremely loud and is almost unbearable for the room it was intended for. If you apply pressure to the top, pressing down or squeeze the sides the loudness dampens drastically-almost in half. I haven't had time to spend on the phone with their support but I don't envision getting very far so I may be left with figuring out a crazy way to duct-tape it tightly so the sound isn't so loud.

4 out of 5 eggsRequires Yearly Maintenance

Pros: Cools and heats my attic/loft room ok. In summer I can still be a little too warm and in winter I am still a little too cold. Is still working after 3+ years without issue. Has a cool auto feature that could be useful in vacation homes or workshops. When in auto heat turns on if temp goes below 65, dehum. runs at 65-80, and AC at 80 above. Unit seems to cool better when evaporative system is working properly and the system provides supplemental cooling to the unit..

Cons: Cannot compete with window units of the same BTU. Loud and you will notice when it kicks on and off. Must do maintenance evaporative system. Mine leaked at the end of the first year, couldn't figure out why so we just put in in a washer pan and pumped the water out. I fixed the leak issue last season. The evaporative system recirculates the water from the tray over the radiator; this evaporates the water out the hose and helps to cool the unit. The plastic tray above the radiator gets clogged with hard water/scum and the water can’t drip past the radiator, the tray at the bottom fills up and if the float doesn’t rise the unit fails to shut off and you end up with a wet floor. At least once a year more if needed, remove the plastic outer shell from the unit and clean the bottom water tray and the tray above the radiator (it snaps apart so you can get at the little holes). Since the cleaning at the end of last season the unit has worked properly again, the float even rose and the unit turned off and told me the tray needed to be drained once this season.

Other Thoughts: If buying a portable you need to go bigger then the recommended BTU. They should put out two scales one for window one for portable.

1 out of 5 eggsSrsly? 400 and no removable tank?

Pros: Heater and AC all in one
Quickly cools
And very powerful
Energy efficient

Cons: Leaks water everywhere like the past reviewers have mentioned
No portable/removable tank
Instruction manual is terrible

Other Thoughts: I was debating whether or not I should've gotten another regular ac or try something new and boy do I regret my decision for I am stuck with this junk that leaks everywhere.
For 400$ I could've easily bought 4 regular air condition for 4 different rooms.

Now in order to regularly drain this thing I will need to drag it outside or get it its own dripping pan which is ridiculous compared to some of the other cheaper products out there.

3 out of 5 eggsOK but could be much better

Pros: Off the bat, the AC worked without any problems. It did a rather good job cooling down a bedroom. So far 3 years with it and it still works, but there are problems which are beginning to build up which can be read in the cons.

Cons: * Washer inside the nut for water tank sieve has gone bad after 3 years which caused a leak.
* Clear PVC tube isn't long enough to make it worthwhile, though it has saved me after the nut's washer deteriorated.
* Cooling has been noticeably declining over time and have to keep the fan on high to compensate.

Other Thoughts: * The only leaks (2 leaks) I have had was when the washer wore down from the nut. Other than that, I have been lucky with no water leaks.
* Had to open the unit after the water tank filled for the first time. After draining the tank, the water indicator lever was stuck. Pushing down the plastic floater resolved the issue.

* Bought AC at the time because it was on sale. I'm considering to buy a new AC (not the same brand) and do a bit more thorough research this time around.

2 out of 5 eggsNo replacement parts available

Pros: When this was working, it was a great unit which I used for heating in the winter and cooling/dehumidifying in the summer.

Cons: After a little less than 2 years, the internal fan blades broke. I called to order a replacement part as it was now out of warranty and was told that they do not sell parts. So now I have a very expensive paper weight. The rep told me that if it was under warranty, they would just replace the unit as they don't repair them.

5 out of 5 eggsAdmirable heat pump warms cheaper than firewood!

Pros: I was compelled to write a factual review of this particular portable A/C unit. Buying a second for heating this winter, cooling is not so important even in the mid atlantic Southern Virginia area, whereas HEATING the same spaces during a cold winter can be costly. (I look forward to using this a s a dehumidifier though) Initial cost is much cheaper that going with a new whole home HVAC or even  Mitsubishi style  mini split heat pumps.

Cons: Their are many drawbacks and compromises that come from cramming the indoor/outside coils all in one package unit that sits inside. Placement can be ugly, and you need to plan for water drainage for both heating and cooling modes. Don't think you can use the internal "emergency" condensate tank long term ( I suspect naive new owners did and found their floors damp quickly). The best situation would be a nearby window or patio door, on a table, with a tube running out the sill for constant drainage and no worries.

Other Thoughts: oo many buyers must have unrealistic expectations based upon misunderstandings of refrigeration and the limits / compromises that must be made to implement such a product. One is water drainage. This Soleus unit includes a nice install kit including suction / discharge hoses. Its sensibly made, if not super high quality.

Ironically I recommend this unit more as a low cost space heater than an air conditioner unit.  Think twice before falling for the hype of those EdenPure electric resistance lamp heaters which make nothing but the standard 5000btus with 1500 watts of power.

This unit heats as a heat pump .... not electrical resistance as some other small A/C units use as emergency heat. (Resistance heat is costly 1:1 efficiency like  baseboard heat ....or any cheap old heater from Walmart. They are 1500watts typically which = about 5120 btus. Utilizing a reversing cycle, even an inefficient old style  heat pumps (as of 25years ago) are 2:1 power factor. And this can put out nearly the double the heat, up to 10,000 btus with only 1000watts! That means these are a good deal..but won't warm you up like a real fireplace or heat a large house or even a huge room. After all they are not using red hot coils or burning fuel.....They are cheap to run and great supplemental  heat though, an mine is as I write blowing about 85 degrees as it's 37 outside....not bad at all. In this cold, it is frequently and properly entering the defrost cycle which keeps its coil free of frost (and drips water).

Of portable A/C & heat pump designs ....there are three basic types  .....ONE hose and TWO hose units , and those that can function as EITHER.. This model is the last, and most flexible version which I recommend. Though less efficient in one hose mode :( it creates a slight vacuum in the room but sucking in ...and blowing out inside air, sometimes in someplaces one hose is just fine!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks just fine

Pros: Haven't tried the heating part yet but the cooling part works just fine. A friend used my two portables to cool her home over a long holiday weekend when her central A/C broke.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy a portable with only one hose. Buy ONLY the two hose portables. World of difference in them.
