1 out of 5 eggsStuck With (2) Defective Soleus 12,000 BTU Air Conditioning Units

Pros: Both blow cold air nicely, both were relatively easy to install.

Cons: Both units are defective right out of the box. They both blow cold air and seem to run okay, but do not have all of the features for which we purchased them. The control panel shows the set temperature, not the actual room temperature, and you do not know where you are. This is very annoying, especially since we are using them for an individual that must be in a temperature controlled environment. This feature was one of the main reasons we purchased this type and brand.

Other Thoughts: Soleus customer/tech service agrees that the units are defective. They should display the room, not the set, temperature. Then the rep states we must pay for their return from New York to California, wait for them to look at the units, and then wait another few weeks for new units. All of this is going on during the hottest week we have had in 15 years in this area. Who knows how long this process will all really take. Then the rep says it is my own fault for buying them from Newegg (bad maneuver buying from them) versus another retailer. I did not understand this. Keep in mind that we are still in the 1 year warranty window (expires shortly) and they are stonewalling/treating me like this. These are brand new out of the box units with less than 3 days operation on each. Beware of this brand and note that you are completely on your own when you click the purchase button. They do not even backup their authorized retailers. I believe in my heart I discovered a design defect/flaw and am being deceived and mistreated.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Return on BTU

Pros: Works well in dehumidify (Dry) mode, and Energy Saver mode. I installed the unit in my attached two-car garage (450sq ft.) to control heat and humidity. I run the unit in Dry mode at night, and put the unit in Energy Saver A/C mode during the day to save electricity since the Dry mode runs continuously non-stop. I live in the Southeast United States where it can get very hot and humid. If you have anything like leather, paper documents, canvas etc... or anything that isn't mildew proof, in your unconditioned garage, it will will get mold and mildew. So far my electrical bill isn't a whole lot more, but I don't have any hard numbers yet.

Cons: Not really, a con. It's heavy, and you really need two people to install it. Also, wish the rear area had more protection. It's very easy to mess up the fine aluminum grill on the back. This is a common weak area of most window A/C units. No documentation on the efficiency (cost) between running in Dry (Dehumidifer) mode vs. A/C modes at a given thermostat setting.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Cold

Pros: 12,000 BTU or 1 Ton cooling unit! This unit and a 5,000 BTU unit cools my two story house that's 1170 Sq Ft. Cools the two rooms the unit is in, in minutes.

Love the "I Feel" feature. The remote senses the temperature and sends that to the unit for a proper room cooling instead of the temp sensor on the ac unit.

Just about the biggest unit you can buy on a 110V outlet.

Cons: Wish you could program the 24 hour timer like I can set my heat thermostat... It's a daily on off schedule. But for the price I can't complain, I just leave the remote on the "I Feel" setting in-conjunction with the energy saving function.

Other Thoughts: Installed in 2nd story window by myself, only weighs about 70 pounds.

2 out of 5 eggsit works, kinda

Pros: it works, kinda

Cons: 24 hour timer is deceptive description.
Once set the unit will turn on 1 time and once set the unit will turn off 1 time, if you want it to turn on and off every day, you have to set the timer every day, over and over and over again.

Other Thoughts: if you call the company they say yes we know this and yes it is a bad set up, not sure why we set it up like this but we did.

4 out of 5 eggsBest for the price.

Pros: High build quality. Temperature sensing remote. Many useful functions. Very well packed by Newegg (manfacturer box placed inside lager box with 1" of air cushion packaging)

Cons: Filter sits a bit loosely and can sometimes rattle a bit when compressor is running. Light bleed through inside baffle visible through vent.

Other Thoughts: I did much research before deciding on this unit. Overall I am very happy with this purchase and would make it again. Other considerations were from Sunpentown, Keystone and LG (all 12,000 BTU's compared to 11,600, but also heavier and more expensive). The build quality is better than other units I've handled. The 4 way vent louvers are solid and don't flex or feel fragile. I was concerned about the mfgr specs stating this was for 450-550 sf but it easily cools off my 650 sf two story townhouse (with Southern exposure and two skylights). I leave it on energy-saver when at work and I come home in the evening to a cool home when it's still 90+ outside. It is also more cosmetically pleasing than the competition. My ONLY dislikes are an occasional rattling of the air filter (fixed be re-positioning, though I'd like to find a more permanent fix), and light bleed showing through the output vent from inside the unit (quite noticeable when trying to keep a darkened room).
