Pros: Had this temp monitor for over a year now and wanted to write a review. I have used the monitor in both my smoker and my oven. It works in both settings excellently. No more cutting open a piece of meat to check to see if it med rare, well done, etc. The temperature is all you need. Really really handy using it with a smoker. Internal temperature is everything, esp when you are low and slow cooking meats for ten hours plus. Excellent range on the wireless device and absolutely no problems getting a signal all the way on the other side of my house; long battery life in that I have had the thing a year now and have not replaced the battery but once after multiple twelve hour brisket and porkbutt cooks; durable; can monitor temperature two completely different types of meat simultaneously which is great if you are cooking a turkey with a brisket like I did for Thanksgiving.

Pros: It measures the temperature of things accurately. Has a temp display on the transmitting unit.
Has metal braided wires instead of silicone.

Cons: Wireless transmitter doesn't work. I can only for a moment get the receiving unit, which has the temp alarms to work. So unreliable it is virtually worthless. Unless you really enjoy severely overcooked meals you have to watch the temperature on the transmitting unit's display.
If the receiving unit alarms at at the desired temp it will be only once your 15 or more degree's past.

Other Thoughts: I got my unit at a brick and mortar store that was going out of business, on clearance. Paid about same as it is listed here. Perhaps my unit is defective, but it works intermittently enough I wouldn't be surprised if they are all the same. Junk
