4 out of 5 eggsDecent basic tester

Pros: Good tester for a variety of cables. It is not going to tell you anything about the quality of link, just canned continuity tests. If you have custom wiring patterns, get something that will show individual pairs. I wouldn't use it for installing runs, however, anyone can learn to use this is a minute for quick testing and troubleshooting.

The remote node clips to the bottom so you can test patch cables with one hand.

Decent selection of adapters (2 male-male RJ45, RJ11, BNC; and a 50ohm BNC terminator and USB A/B)

Cons: The remote node is *really* hard to slide off the bottom until you file the connection or otherwise loosen it up.

The case is fine for light duty use or around the office, but it probably wouldn't last in a tool bag for too long.

3 out of 5 eggsNot sure about quality

Pros: It does provide alot of data and cable accessories. I like the power button position - it is not a slide switch that can be accidentally turned on and then the battery will drain out. Nothing worse.

Cons: A bit bulky and it was DOA. I had another earlier that only lasted 3 weeks.

Other Thoughts: for the price, I expected a bit more

5 out of 5 eggsSuitable

Pros: All common PC cable types can be tested. With the exclusion of power supply cables.
Has a sound to indicate successful pin-out vs non-successful.
Comes with two pairs of each type of cable for demonstration testing, not very long but sufficient enough.
One enormous test button, couldn't make it easier to perform a test.

Cons: Uses a 9V battery, would have hoped for 2 AA or AAA batteries.
The remote end only slides off in one direction, and it isn't very apparently at first glance which direction that is. Its corners are also very sharp, very easy to hurt yourself if you aren't careful.
The blue success LED is incredibly bright, almost hard to look at. Certainly gets your attention however.

Other Thoughts: Appears to be the exact same as the 'Triplett WireMaster XR-5 Cable Analyzer' (Also on Newegg). Assuming Rosewill/Newegg bought it from Triplett or Triplett itself.
BNC testing involves using the included terminator for loopback, the remote end of the tester does not need a BNC port.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Never try this brand before. It has a very powerful menu for the small system and some features you only found in more expensive systems. The video with this 420 TVL cameras is impressive. Very nice system, gonna try with better quality cameras. Its very fast also. Excellent price overall.

Cons: Be aware that it do not have a HDD.

Other Thoughts: Go with 16 channels now. Never seen this brand in the market, so I guess is new player and doing it very well.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Works great so far.

Cons: I must be dumb, but there is no BNC connection on the remote end of the tester. This means I can't test BNCs with it? I must be missing something.

Other Thoughts: I like the beep it makes.

1 out of 5 eggsNot Good Quality

Pros: Easy to use

Cons: Bought it in October and tested maybe 30 runs no more. I did not use it again until last night. Tested one cable fine. Tested another cat 5e cable and gave me the Short light and wire 5 light. I changed the rj45 connector twice on that cable and same results. Finally "I tested the Tester" without connecting any cable and same results. Reconnected battery several times and same results. There is no reset button. It only presents those lights when pressing the power button with or without a cable to test.

Other Thoughts: Too bad it broke. It was a nice tool to use.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome for the price

Pros: Does it all, and then some! With a little creativity you can get a good confidence test on just about any cable you can think of.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I can't even begin to count the sheer number of CAT-5 cables I've tested with this thing! Simple to use, easy on the batteries (I think I may have changed mine only once since I bought it), and the flexibility it provides has made this one of my favorite tools at home and at work (and made quite a few co-workers jealous).

I had to buy a new one after one of the pins the remote unit ethernet jack broke off (pin 8). Personally, I think that was just a fluke, not anything against the construction. I still keep the old one around because eventually I'll get bored enough to replace the broken jack. 5 eggs all the way on this one!
