5 out of 5 eggsExcellent!

Pros: Many adapters, indicators show what's wrong and right, audible alert

Cons: Lacks an RG6 "F" adapter

Other Thoughts: The unit is great for testing just about every type of network connection. I use it in my home installation arsenal and it works wonders. I install CAT5/6 networks, telephone lines and television. The only drawback was that I had to purchase two BNC to F connector adapters to test RG6 Coax cables. Otherwise, this thing is perfect and I have purchased several for my other crews to use.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent, but needs improvements

Pros: Does the job.
Easy to use

Cons: I agree with most negatives here, the case is bare minimum, and doesn't seem designed to carry the device AND it's accessories.
This guy is BIG. Way too big for the simple task it does. It could do the same if it were 1/2 it's current size.
USB 2.0 but not USB 3.0.
Loud, great in many environments, but not all. Speaker switch would be great.

Other Thoughts: It's a good device, and does what you want. But far from perfect.
I'd also like to see lights on the remote unit, which was on the last device like this I owned.

5 out of 5 eggsA great cable tester!

Pros: It's simple, it just works, and can test more than just RJ45. Pressing the button makes a satisfying "beep" and some LEDs show up telling you how if the cable works, is a crossover, or has a short.

Cons: Some the of LEDs are really bright, but nothing a bit of tape can't fix.

Other Thoughts: For the price, you really can't beat all the features it offers. It's certainly no Fluke network tool, but it works well.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Easy to read; carry case and jumpers included. Tested out wires in excess of 200'. The remote can be used from other handhelds; at least I've been able to. The company answers emails and responds almost as quickly as Newegg. Got it on sale.

Cons: I have been fooled a few times when dealing w/ cross and broken wires, but bad wires have done the same w/ my Paladin tester.

Other Thoughts: The lights are bright enough to use outside. I never thought I'd use a USB tester, since the cables are so cheap but it's actually come in handy. I would trade the ability to test firewire for video, like vga or hdmi.

3 out of 5 eggsGood for what you pay for

Pros: - Versatile for what you pay for; does the job

Cons: - Carrying pouch is not well designed to store both, the tester and the accessory cables/adapters. There is an inner pouch sewn inside of main pouch that is big enough to store a couple of (included) accessory cables but not all of them. You are forced to either carry them elsewhere, or outside of the inner pouch, which will scratch the tester eventually.
- The test button gives off a certain beep for an audible result as well as LED lights, however there is no on/off switch or volume to control the beep.

Other Thoughts: For what the cost is, it's not a bad deal and it does what it's supposed to. I would recommend this product if you are on a budget. I just wish the pouch was designed better. I can probably deal with the inability to shut the beeper off, but it's really inconvenient to work around the poor pouch design.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks good

Pros: Works as advertised. Note that the two RJ-45 jumper cables are STP wire, not UTP.
There is an error in the accompanying booklet on page 5, near the bottom, under "NOTE:" -
"When testing on RJ-45 UTP cable, the S/G must light" should read "When testing on RJ-45 STP cable, the S/G must light" (2nd sentence - the 1st sentence is correct)

Cons: None so far, 1 egg deducted for documentation error I pointed out.

Other Thoughts: Simple and straight forward - didn't realize so many phone extension cords are crossed over.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent basic tester

Pros: Good tester for a variety of cables. It is not going to tell you anything about the quality of link, just canned continuity tests. If you have custom wiring patterns, get something that will show individual pairs. I wouldn't use it for installing runs, however, anyone can learn to use this is a minute for quick testing and troubleshooting.

The remote node clips to the bottom so you can test patch cables with one hand.

Decent selection of adapters (2 male-male RJ45, RJ11, BNC; and a 50ohm BNC terminator and USB A/B)

Cons: The remote node is *really* hard to slide off the bottom until you file the connection or otherwise loosen it up.

The case is fine for light duty use or around the office, but it probably wouldn't last in a tool bag for too long.

3 out of 5 eggsNot sure about quality

Pros: It does provide alot of data and cable accessories. I like the power button position - it is not a slide switch that can be accidentally turned on and then the battery will drain out. Nothing worse.

Cons: A bit bulky and it was DOA. I had another earlier that only lasted 3 weeks.

Other Thoughts: for the price, I expected a bit more

5 out of 5 eggsSuitable

Pros: All common PC cable types can be tested. With the exclusion of power supply cables.
Has a sound to indicate successful pin-out vs non-successful.
Comes with two pairs of each type of cable for demonstration testing, not very long but sufficient enough.
One enormous test button, couldn't make it easier to perform a test.

Cons: Uses a 9V battery, would have hoped for 2 AA or AAA batteries.
The remote end only slides off in one direction, and it isn't very apparently at first glance which direction that is. Its corners are also very sharp, very easy to hurt yourself if you aren't careful.
The blue success LED is incredibly bright, almost hard to look at. Certainly gets your attention however.

Other Thoughts: Appears to be the exact same as the 'Triplett WireMaster XR-5 Cable Analyzer' (Also on Newegg). Assuming Rosewill/Newegg bought it from Triplett or Triplett itself.
BNC testing involves using the included terminator for loopback, the remote end of the tester does not need a BNC port.
