Pros: great value for the money. can test all manner of Ethernet cables, BNC, and with adapters, USB and Firewire. Also provides tone for wire tracing. Has remote tester for long runs. carry bag

Cons: used several times, haven't had any problems. can't measure cable length but not needed for general work.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cable Tester

Pros: Great little tester for checking continuity on a variety of voice/data lines. Obviously doesn't have the bells and whistles of more expensive models but gets the job done. Newegg shipped on time as usual.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: If you need more functionality for professional/corporate grade jobs then spend the money on a nice Fluke tester. Otherwise, this TrendNet is perfect for home testing and other light jobs.

4 out of 5 eggsBAAASSIICCC

Pros: This thing is basic. WOW is it basic. It works though, so ... what do you want

Cons: for this price... I think it should give me a bit more... Then again .. i didn't buy it at the current price, it was higher :-\

Other Thoughts: Did you know... in 1964 the USA stopped production of Silver Quarters. So when you ask for a roll of quarters, if you are bored... take a peak.. If you find one thats from 64 or earlier its silver, not only that, but its worth 3x what you paid for it (or more... i haven't looked at the value of silver lately).

4 out of 5 eggsMade for 4-pair

Pros: Does it's thing, has the 2 ends to to BNC, but mainly today the CAT-5,/6 or four pair is the issue... does GREAT testing a patch cord and works well on hard wired networks... of course a standard 1or 2 pair phone cable works too.... unless your really worried about USB cables, forget the extra "adaptors"

Cons: Totally useless on a wall jack to patch plug....It only has one short 4-pair RJ-45 cable... So you gotta have a known to be good patch cord ALSO....to test an existing cable run.... Female jack to female jack... Why ship 2 BNC adaptors, maybe for CATV, but usually they work or don't, not much thin/thick net out the anymore... this is a network cable tester....should have 2 short 4-pair (RJ-45) cords.. the one supplied is good only two would make it work....

Other Thoughts: Good tool for the money, nice pouch, seems rugged enough for the price

4 out of 5 eggsCable Tester

Pros: Basic Cable Tester - Easy to use, easy instructions to get started

Cons: Feels cheap/fragile - some online reviews out there say it doesnt last that long - but its doing well after a weeks project. Take my chances i guess

Other Thoughts: Should include other adapters. this thing can test USB, Firewire, Coax, etc. Wish it came with more adapters to do so, and not just basic BNC --> RJ-45. Even to test coax on this project i had to buy an extra adapter for coax --> BNC

Just wish more was in the box. Good product overall though!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for testing connectivity, hard to find probe

Pros: Unit accurately tested cables for my home 'structured wiring' install. Auto-scan setting allows you to test long cables by yourself without running between rooms. Easy to use and made an otherwise tedious task of terminating cables more bearable.

Cons: Sends tone down the line, but I found it impossible to purchase a tone probe separate from a generator. I ended up having to buy another tone generator & probe set when I needed that functionality. When considering purchase, consider whether you may want/need to trace wiring using tone and buying a unit that includes tone probe as well.

Other Thoughts: Highly recommend if you will not need a tone probe, otherwise find a unit that also include the probe.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes It' job

Pros: Great set of tools. Does exaclty what it is advertised to do. Even came in a nice leather carrying case that you can attach to a tool belt, etc.

Cons: None so far. Watch out as it does require a 9 volt battery to operate!

2 out of 5 eggsGet something else.

Pros: Price

Cons: You get what you pay for

Other Thoughts: After almost two years with this tester, pins 1 & 2 do not work on the sending unit, and pin 6 does not work on the receiving unit.

4 out of 5 eggsTrendnet Tc-NT2 Cable tester

Pros: This is a great basic unit for testing wires. It does put a tone down the wire. It just doesn't include a toner. You need to use a separate tone sounding tool to hear the tone.

Sweet, simple and to the point. Doesn't say it can do more than test the continuity and wiring pattern. We have used these for a long time and the tone it generates is unique and easy to find.

Cons: Easy to smoke device working on POE switches. Be careful to have no electricity on the wires.

Other Thoughts: You need a tone probe to hear the tones it generates on the wires.
