Crush your enemies, climb the tower of paperwork -- or do both at the same time. Intel's Core i7 processor not only makes it possible, it makes it easy. The Core i7 920 has four cores that run at 2.66GHz and shares 8MB of L3 cache.

Quad cores means true multi-tasking and multi-threading. One core handles the usual action on your operating system, while the second can play a DVD on the TV, the third download a file from internet, and the fourth one sends audio to the kids in another room without lags or stutters. All this is made easier with Intel’s advanced Digital Media Boost.

With Intel Turbo Boost technology and Intel Hyper-Threading technology, The Core i7 enables highly threaded applications or demanding applications to work in maximum speed without any extra effort. The 45nm Intel Core i7 processor is armed with Intel HD Boost, which implementing new Intel Streaming SIMD Extension 4.1 (Intel SSE4.1) instructions for fast high definition video editing and encoding, enhance the multimedia performance.

  • newegg Intel Core i7 Quad-core Processor With four processing cores, the multitasking monster Quad-Core Intel Core i7 processor delivers fourfold the performance on highly-threaded applications, taking your desktop PC experience into a completely new realm of mega power. The powerful processor delivers serious performance on the ultra-demanding games of today and tomorrow. The innovative 45nm quad-core technology optimizes thermal performance for reduced power consumption and noise.
  • newegg Integrated DDR3 Memory Controller With the integrated DDR3 memory controller, the Intel Core i7 enables three channels of DDR3 1066 MHz memory, resulting in up to 25.6 GB/sec memory bandwidth. Plus the memory controller's lower latency and higher memory bandwidth delivers amazing performance for data-intensive applications.
  • newegg Intel Advanced Smart Cache Intel Advanced Smart Cache Technology dynamically allocates the shared L3 cache to each processor core based on workload. This efficient, multi-core-optimized implementation increases the probability that each core can access data from fast L3 cache, resulting in significantly reduced latency for frequently used data and improved performance.
  • newegg Intel Turbo Boost technology Intel Turbo Boost technology maximizes speed for demanding applications, dynamically accelerating performance to match your workload-more performance when you need it the most.
  • newegg Intel Wide Dynamic Execution With Intel Wide Dynamic Execution, each of the four cores can complete up to four full instructions simultaneously, improves execution speed and efficiency, delivering more instructions per clock cycle.
  • newegg Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Greater Performance with Hyper-Threading Technology (HT Technology) Hyper-threading enables multi-threaded software applications to execute two software threads in parallel to improve system responsiveness. Intel Core i7 enabled with HT Technology deliver performance and multitasking gains that result in increased productivity and efficiency.

5 out of 5 eggsA Shame Its Deactivated

Pros: Decided to check out chips for the heck of it and found this deactivated. A real shame. If anyone out there can get their hands on this chip still, do it. I am running it now, at 4 GHz and there is no problem. This chip is what now, three years old? I've had thermal paste on the pins by accident. I've had a PSU go out, frying a motherboard. I've had this thing OC'd at 3.6 or higher for almost its entire life. Such a good chip.

Cons: The stupid thing won't die so I can get a faster chip... then again, who knows if the new chips are as good.

Other Thoughts: If you can still get your hands on one somewhere for a good price. Jump on it.

5 out of 5 eggsHavent used it yet, but...

Pros: Heard great things about it, and through all the reviews and forum posts it seems most people are very happy with this CPU.

Cons: Its not as good as Intel's top of the line product, but even those CPU's are not necessary to have these days.

Other Thoughts: When I get back from this field op in Arizona I'm going to install my Sabertooth X58 thats waiting for me, My Corsair Dominator triple channel 6GB of memory, and of course this bad boy. Cant wait.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat processor

Pros: I have had this chip in and out of MOBO's 7-8 times. I somehow got thermal compound on pins. I took a BIG risk, just wiped it off carefully, used compressed air to clean anything else off, and put it in the MOBO. I have ran this chip OC from 3.6-3.8 consistently for almost a year and a half. It is still running strong without any problems. Great chip!

Cons: Stupid thing won't die so I can convince my wife to let me buy an I7 extreme!

Other Thoughts: Some people rave about the 920. Fine, but when OC'ing, you have to crank the BLCK to achieve the same OC.

4 out of 5 eggsbought this to compare to my 920

Pros: I purchased this to see if it would overclock any better than my 920. Lower Bclk should allow for a better OC. Same board, same Ram, same results at around 4.2. Not complaining, its is a good processor, but not worth it for OC purposes when the 920 can be had for much cheaper.

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: Stick with a 920 if your planning on OC'ing

5 out of 5 eggsFast

Pros: This was a nice upgrade over my Q8300. In stock form the i7 was a slower GHz than my OC'd Core Duo but considerably faster performance. I was able to overclock this CPU to 4.1GHz with little trouble but on air it was pretty hot so I ramped it down to just under 4.0 GHz for everyday use.

Cons: A little pricey. Stock fan needs to be replaced for any overclocking attempts but that should be expected. My stock fan on stock settings would reach 66C on Prime 95 blend at 70F room temps and idle at 29C.

Other Thoughts: Asus P6X58D-E
Intel Core i7-940 OC'd to 4.0 Ghz
Noctua NH-D14 Cooler
Sparkle GTX460 1GB 810MHz GPU
8GB Corsair DDR3-1333

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Processor

Pros: Works flawlessly. Fast. Hyperthreading. Idiot-proof installation (much improved over older line of cpu's). Didn't use stock heat sink, but probably could have. It, too, is much improved over older lines.

Cons: None yet.

Other Thoughts: Don't think you're going to get the UBISOFT game. Newegg says it's a $49.99 value. What you get with your processor is a card with a code and a download address. The site says you can buy it for $29.99, not $49.99. The download is >5GB. Read GIGAbytes. I'm on a rural satellite system and will never be able to download it. If they're too cheap to throw in a DVD, they should scrap this promo.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing CPU

Pros: The overclock-ability of this CPU is amazing, I have it overclocked to 4.2GHz stable (C0 Stepping) with Hyper-Threading on!
I have it cooled with a little Corsair H50 too! it does get hot, but with the right airflow, and a good heatsink, it wont matter!

I bought this back in 2008, 1 week after they came out, and it was worth the price then, and it is now also!

Buy it, you wont regret it, the 1366 line of Intel processors will go down as one of the best processors in history!!

Cons: There is nothing bad with this processor, just the stock heatsink, Intel needs to replace them all with something a bit better.

Other Thoughts: My setup is:
CPU - Intel Core I7-940 OC'd to 4.2 GHz w/HT on
Mobo - ASUS P6T-SE
RAM - 6 gbs of Corsair Dominators (1600MHz)
HDD - 300 Gb WD Velociraptor / 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3
GPU - XFX Radeon 6870 BE
Case - Silverstone Raven 2 EVOLUTION (RV02B-EW)
PSU - Coolermaster HX650
