5 out of 5 eggsamazing vt-d passthrough with IDE and floppy

Pros: Shame they are not reproducing this board anymore! I was lucky to grab the last two open boxes.
Unique board with floppy and IDE connectors for LGA 1155 on which i5 3570k was tested and worked great. The i7 3770 is what I am using for direct vt-d passthrough.

Cons: They won't be producing this anymore. It is just sad.
Critics about headers for the floppy and IDE should be avoided, and those who do not like having them, simply do not use them.

Other Thoughts: The current generation is using computer as a media streamer or a gaming processor. However, there are tons of intelligent programs written for decades that computer scientist seek to retrieve and execute on current architecture. These programs might be tight to the floppy or IDE, and this board is ideal to revive these programs, eg McClelland's 1986 parallel distributed processing.

1 out of 5 eggsStill comes with the old BIOS

Pros: Not sure, does not work with the i5 3350p processor I purchased with it.

Cons: The board I received has a bios that is nearly two years old so it does not work with the Ivy Bridge processor I purchased with it. I contacted Asrock but have only received the canned response so far.

Other Thoughts: Depending on how they handle this it could be upgraded to more eggs, but as it stands I have a non functioning computer. I would rather not have to take everything back out and return it and wait days to be back up and running.

1 out of 5 eggsupdate to 55 code

Pros: legacy connectors for obsolete floppy drives

Cons: does not support ivy bridge out of the box (55 error code). tried a g860 sandy bridge, got a 45 error code; it too was too new for the bios. customer service agreed to send me a new bios chip with updated bios to fix the problem. got the new chip yesterday; 23 days later; marked as ver 2.20. still got a 55 error code with the ivy bridge; swapped to the g860 sandy bridge and still got a 55 error code with an immediate power down of the motherboard (something new). decided to end my two month journey of frustration with this board, and ended its functionality forever. small satisfaction for me; no regrets, however.

Other Thoughts: in support of customer service taking 23 days to get an updated (?) bios chip to me; you have to consider the time they had off for the holidays. as a side note, there are cheaper ways to transfer data from your old floppy disks than building a dedicated computer; it just sounded like a good idea on a late night, or something.

3 out of 5 eggsGood board for the price, don't buy with Ivy Bridge

Pros: Works as advertised. Good choice for a budget build that you can upgrade later.

Cons: Does not support ivy bridge processor out of the box.

Other Thoughts: If you want to use Ivy Bridge, make sure you have another compatible processor readily available to you so you can update your BIOS.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Due to the mainboard has been released before ivy bridge processor, the BIOS update is needed to recognizing the new processor.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it lasted

Pros: Easy to work with. No compatibility problems.

Cons: All three PCIE3 slots quit after 1.5 years leaving my video card with no home.

Other Thoughts: Bought this board because of all the good reviews including Newegg awards. Guess the board wasn't as well built as the reviews suggested.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Please trouble shoot the mainboard to check if its resolved
Turn the power off, clear the CMOS.
Reseat the VGA card firmly and its VGA power.
Check the power supply is enough power to providing VGA.
Test with another known good VGA card to isolate the issue.
If problem still persist, please contact us at http://www.ASRock.com/support/tsd.asp. We can assist you shortly.

2 out of 5 eggserror code 55

Pros: has legacy floppy and ide connections. asrock website lists ivy bridge processors as compatible with motherboard.

Cons: cant use the motherboard. got a 55 error code; swapped out every other component with same result and RMA'd the obviously defective motherboard. replacement has same problem, asrock tech support finally responded that i need to update the bios to use an ivy bridge cpu. they also said customer service would contact me.

Other Thoughts: customer service has not contacted me, tried to contact tech support again and asked how to upgrade a bios when post fails; what cpu i needed to post so i can upgrade the bios; or how long it normally takes to hear from customer service, and haven't heard back from them either.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
To update the BIOS for Ivy Bridge CPU, please install Sandy Bridge CPU to boot to Windows.
Download and update the latest BIOS at link " http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Fatal1ty%20P67%20Performance/?cat=Download&os=BIOS ".

1 out of 5 eggsNot compatible with Ivy Bridge CPU

Pros: Has a PATA port, which I needed

Cons: As other reviewers have mentioned, this board simply won't run Ivy Bridge processors. I didn't properly research this and ordered an I3-3220 processor. The error code on the nice on-board POST display said "no memory". I wasted several days chasing down that incorrect error. :-( After I checked the forums here, I discovered the REAL problem. I also discovered the history of horrible support from Asrock. Just for entertainment, I emailed their support people for a new BIOS chip. As expected, they haven't replied in over 2 weeks. But, to get my computer running, I ordered a G630 sandy-bridge CPU. It came in and I installed it on the board. It boots! Next, I downloaded the BIOS update that supposedly supports Ivy Bridge CPU's (1.50). Flash BIOS, re-install faster CPU. Oh, no memory error! I had to re-install the slower CPU to get it to run at all. Still waiting to hear from Asrock "support" :-(

Other Thoughts: Newegg needs negative egg ratings to proper rate this board.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Due to the mainboard has been released before ivy bridge processor, the BIOS (ver. 2.xx and above) update is needed to recognizing the new processor.

1 out of 5 eggsI want to give it NO eggs!!

Pros: I have't any pros cause it never worked, I received two of them and neither has worked.

Cons: The first MOBO I received gave me an error 55. My tech tested the memory in a separate system and figured out that the memory was good and then he decided to troubleshoot further, trying the good memory in every slot only to get error 55 every single time he booted up my computer. So after reading countless reviews and going on tons of forums I read that there's the possibility that the CPU socket could have something to do with it...So my tech inspected it for maybe an hour and found nothing wrong with the pins, no bent, no missing so doing the last thing we could was to call Newegg and see what can be done...They were very helpful and advance replaced a new mother board (same model) and it arrived after one day, Great job NewEgg, YOU are not at fault here!!! So my new motherboard arrives and low and behold I get the same, exact, issue...My tech has ordered from ASrock lots of times and in the past two years has noticed a trend of failing motherboards from ASrock. He is at the point where he will no longer do business with ASrock. Obviously, I am extremely frustrated and have received my refund from Newegg. I am now on the search for a different motherboard (Not Asrock to be frank). I will update on here when I find out more. Would've talked to Asrock today however they're closed the day after Thanksgiving (Biggest Shopping Day Of The Year They Are Closed, LOL)!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
If its instaledl with Ivy Bridge processor that mainboard might needs to update the BIOS in order to recognize it, due to the mainboard has been released before this processor.

1 out of 5 eggsASRock sucks!

Pros: real pretty looking

Cons: wont boot error p55. ASRock support SUCKS!

Other Thoughts: just bought for a prototype test, wont boot called tech support and they want me to pay $15.00 for a updated bios. My thought is they should stop building and using outdated bios. ill throw the board away before spending any more money, just ordered a ASUS motherboard.
STAY AWAY FORM ASROCK!

Manufacturer Response:

Dear ASRock Customer

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you. Due to the mainboard has been released before ivy bridge processor, the BIOS update is needed to recognizing the new processor.
However, all BIOS had been updated to support Ivy Bridge CPU, unless the mainboard was purchased old stock from sellers.
As always, we appreciate your purchase and constructive reviews are welcome.
