Pros: This is my first GPS unit and it does its job as expected and is very easy to use.
Cons: The only problem that I had is that the unit shut itself off once it heard Dr Nightmares voice. I turned it back on and switched back to Jill and everything seems to work well.
Other Thoughts: Unpacked it, Registered with Garmin, Plugged it into my computer, downloaded all of the available updates, including Firmware, Software, Maps, Cars and Voices. After a couple of hours it was all done and works well. The updates addressed many of the issues that others have described here. Those with more experience with these GPS devices might want it to do more. Everything that I need it for was in the box, except for the traffic antenna, which I ordered separately.
Pros: I must say that this unit impressed me from the start with its range of features. The voice command and the FM transmitter were of particular benefit for me as I'm hearing impaired (I can turn the stereo volume up loud enough to hear the directions now), and where the unit has to mount in my truck is difficult to reach.
Cons: Grossly inaccurate system for locating addresses. I should have been suspicious when the unit thought my house was a 1/4 mile from its actual, physical location, even using the very latest updates from Garmin. I filed an error report about it with Garmin and received a response back from a "Cartography Admin" (Hi Loy!) that said, essentially, they are using the USPS "potential address" database to map addresses. Unfortunately, that database was never intended for such a use, and is grossly unsuited to being used in such a manner. The database is simply the way the USPS reserves house numbers for possible future development, and does not represent actual, physical locations. In the case of my home address, I'm the last house on the street, with a number in the 20's, but the USPS database has reserved a block of numbers from 1-99 for that street (in case of future development) and, mine being the last house on the street, the Garmin thinks it should be #98 at that location.
Other Thoughts: This was not the only gross inaccuracy I found in the last week, driving with this unit. At one point it insisted a local store was a full two miles from where it actually was, on the opposite side of an 8 lane Interstate (my other GPS which I reinstalled in my truck found it just fine, as did all the online mapping sites I tried), and similar errors were noted for every single address I entered into the unit. Garmin says it's good enough, and that a GPS unit isn't supposed to guide you door-to-door, but just get you "close". I say, buy a different brand, and mine will be up for sale on a popular auction site later on tonight.

Not too easy to start up

Pros: I am going to be thrilled with this GPS (my first) no matter what. Did you buy the GPS to help navigate? It does that. I bought this unit in particular because it has a user replaceable battery. Can't get that in the newer unit. The difference. This one is a little thicker. I don't care. Lovely unit.
Cons: 1)Box comes sans manual. You must download. 2)No blue tooth. 3)The unit installs drivers to your PC w/o notifying you.. You are not able to turn it off while it is plugged into PC. It becomes non-responsive unless you unplug it. No notification it is charged. The unit notifies you of the free map upgrade and where to register in order to get it once it is unplugged. This rock like characteristic is active whenever the GPS is plugged into the PC. I have not yet tried it to connect it in the car. 4)The free map download takes about 3 hours. This stinks because my computer goes to sleep and the download stops unless I am around to keep pc out of sleep mode. Darn green pc. grrr I have to get up early for work. 5)The speakers should be louder so I can hear over the road noise of 93 Civic.
Other Thoughts: I am surprised no home charger is included but it does not really matter. I like the propaganda for options that does come in the box even if a manual does not. wt*? I like that it is at least partly an American product. I look forward to using it. Before I started the map download the unit had over 1 GB of internal memory (no microSD included). I was impressed with that.

So far, so good

Pros: Nice clear screen, easy to read, with logical functions.
Cons: Required significant updating of the maps, the software and the firmware which took considerable time. Adding custom POI's seems like it will be a real chore. You need to use their own software to do it, and the software is confusing and difficult to use.
Other Thoughts: I have not actually used the unit in my truck yet, just got it updated and my address book programmed into it. One thing I noticed right off though is that even though I updated it to the latest map it doesn't seem to know where my house is, and my house is 15 years old. It seems to think there are 99 houses on my street (there's only 22) and it puts my address about a 1/4 mile from where it actually is. It also seems to be a bit confused about gas stations in my area, showing one that does not exist (and never has) and missing two that are at least 5 years old.
